Further details for this vacation house rental in Surry, Maine

ABOUT US AND THIS PROPERTY: Please note that we are very experienced in home rental. With the assistance of our caretaker, we have successfully rented the home each summer week since 2004, delivering it clean, equipped, and on time. We think this is important to families who arrive ready for their vacation to begin and trusting that all promises will be kept. This property is actually our home although we are currently living and working in Florida for another three years or so. Then we intend to spend summers and autumn in Maine again and enjoy that fabulous Maine lifestyle. Until then we want to rent and share our beloved lakeside home with others who share our love for all things Maine. Still not convinced? Contact us directly for more information and a link to our Shutterfly website for more photos and details. Thanks for looking, Paul and Becky Comeau. A NOTE ABOUT THE WOODSTOVES. HOME INSURANCE REGULATIONS PROHIBIT THE USE OF WOODSTOVES IN THIS RENTAL.

FOR YOUR SAFETY: Our guests agree that this is a restful and comfortable home. We have equipped it with everything you need for a wonderful vacation. All the toys are there - from a leaky old row boat to kayaks to porch rockers. There is a good selection of board games, Nintendo, Direct TV, VCR and DVD family and classic movies, and adult and children's books to curl up with. One important distinction - this is a home not a cottage. There is a drilled well and central heat for your comfort. While this is a very safe child friendly place, please note that the use of boats, kayaks, flotation devices, and water toys are at your own discretion. We ask that all persons behave responsibly and that children are supervised closely at all times, especially when in or near the water or the granite wall at water's edge. The use of Personal Flotation Devices is recommended for all persons using water craft of any kind. FYI, the State of Maine requires a fishing license for all persons age 12 and over

ABOUT LOWER PATTEN POND: Technically it's a lake and it even has a sister lake called 'Upper Patten Pond'. Lower Patten Pond is 741 acres and about three miles long. It's big enough for exploration, canoing, kayaking, boating, and good fishing. It's small enough to discourage a lot of 'day trip', local boat traffic. What this means is that the lake is unusually quiet and peaceful, not a lot of jet skis or other noise (although the bullfrogs really get going for a while in the evening). There is a pair of eagles that work the lake and usually 2-4 Loon pairs. They have their chicks in May and by early summer those little families are out on the lake too (unless the eagles or turtles get the chicks). There is a public boat landing. We really enjoy lake living. We love the safety, the serenity, and the warm water for swimming. We also love the fact that we can be at the ocean, beaches, or the bays in 30 minutes for a change of pace. It really is the best of both worlds.

Photos can't do it justice

Review Submitted: June 23, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
My husband & I found our stay to be the very best respite from a hectic pace. It is the best place to improve your mental health. Now add all the best of what nature has to offer & all the comforts of your home (immaculately clean & so very comfortable) & you have landed in what we found to be a piece of paradise. Kayaking on the pond, reading on the dock or just observing the loons, bald eagles, turtles, & fish is entertaining for all ages.

The location of the house to Acadia, Ellsworth & Blue Hill is convenient & there's endless exploring to be done all around it. I would highly recommend this rental to anyone who wants to take a break, catch their breath & watching those sunsets will take your breath away.

A perfect start every day

jazz-soulfan Dortmund, Germany
Review Submitted: November 3, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
When you arrived at night be prepared to look for a hidden dream in the dark. We searched a little bit to find this place on a late October night. When we arrived at the house we were positively surprised about it’s charm. We entered a cosy dining room with it’s clean kitchen and listened to a smooth sound of water from the lake. The living room is as big as some restaurants in a small town (or in Germany, where we’re from). The bedroom on the first floor gave us another warm feeling and I tell you, you won’t want to get off in the morning when you awake with such a sunrise we got. The 2 bedrooms on the second floor are perfect for family with kids and it showed us, the house was a great gift for a wonderful start into our 14 day vacation. Paul and Becky didn´t forget anything. You got a lot of different literature, there’s a telephone (or I have to say two), there is a video player and a dvd player, there are some games to play and …. You won´t even be bored on a rainy lazy Sunday afternoon. Besides this there are enough possibilities of outside activities when the weather is alright!

On our first morning our daughter was an early bird to enjoy the calm fog and a beautiful sunrise. The view out of the dining room over the water with it’s cozy fog and a blue and red sky were a perfect start for the day and let us enjoy every morning a lazy and long term breakfast. When we started or trips we noticed the perfect central place of this house (around 10 minutes to Ellsworth’s shops, 30 minutes to brewer and 5 minutes more to Bangor and 25 minutes to Bar Harbor).
Most of our days and evenings we were out but it must be nice to make a trip with a kayak on the lake and spot the area with it’s natural beauty. One afternoon we find the time for a walk around the area and we saw a lot of loons, some eagles and also a small racoon crossing our way. Afterwards we enjoyed a great dinner at Anglers Restaurant in Searsport (Route 1; 215 E Main St – be prepared to arrive at a crowed place before 8.00 pm). It’s a great place which we know for years with great seafood meals which aren’t not very expensive.

It was our first time to rent a house on our vacation in New England and as a German tourist we were so enthusiastic about the space in this large house, it’s beautiful and warm view over the lake and it’s clean and relaxing comfort that it makes us want for more.

We look forward to visit this place in 2010 again and hope to find a time of availability!

Fall colors of Maine

Maystaf california
Review Submitted: October 16, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We were speechless from the time we entered this wonderful home. The views upon entering the house are breathtaking. Photos on the website do not do justice to this home. The fact that my daughter's family lives in Ellsworth, a two minute drive from here, added to our joy. We met here nightly for dinners, we all loved kyaks on the water, and what a joy to wake every morning to the fall colors across the lake. Although my daughter lives close by, she even felt she was on vacation in this wonderful setting. We loved hiking in Acadia, treks to Bar Harbor, and several meals in Ellsworth. The little ice cream shop next to court house serves wonderful lunches and the tapas menu at Cleonice(I think that's spelling) is delicious. The peace and serenity surrounded us and we regret that we only stayed a week. Hopefully, if Becky and Paul continue to rent this home, we can make a yearly visit.
Even in emails to Becky, I felt I had made a connection and a new friend. This is a home that is loved by it's owners and you can feel that warmth from the moment to walk in. Thank you for the experience.

Owner's Response: We have been so fortunate to find wonderful people from all over the world who appreciate the beauty of Maine (and the joy of a good crabmeat roll). We ourselves have been enriched by kindred spirits and blessed by gentle souls.

Perfect In Every Way

Judy & Daryl Easley, South Carolina
Review Submitted: October 13, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
If you are looking for beauty, peace and privacy, then this is the vacation home you are searching for. We were awakened each morning to the call of the loons and breathtaking sunrises. A wonderful place to relax and daydream and escape the hectic pace
of everyday. The house was well appointed and we had all the comforts of home. Even though you are in almost total privacy and the feeling of being away from it all, you are so close to the beautiful town of Ellsworth and all the wonderful shops and even a new super WalMart and our favorite restaurant, Jordan's Snack Bar. Acadia National Park, Cadilllac Mtn, Blue Hill (the Fish Net Restaurant where we enjoyed our first lobster), Stonington and all the other small villages are so close for short day trips.
The owners were so helpful in every way possible and we were grateful for the handicap amenities provided.
Our only regret renting this wonderful house is we didn't book for a longer stay.

Three weeks of restoration

Jo & Rich Washington, DC
Review Submitted: September 22, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We're tempted to not make this place sound good because it might get fully booked and we'd be unable to return... but if you gather strength and peace from listening to water and wind, from watching the brilliant night sky, and from being reminded of the simple pleasures of nature, this is for you. You can choose to be active and do laps in the kayak, and you can also choose to eat too much fine seafood in nearby restaurants. Great, safe place for the youngest visitors as well.

The house is clean and comfortable, the owners more than helpful. We enjoyed Blue Hill and its Marine Environmental Research Institute, the whole Blue Hill peninsula and Naskeag Point, the Blue Hill Fair, Deer Isle and Stonington, the "other places" on Mt. Dessert, and venturing father downeast all the way to West Quoddy Head. But it's hard to beat floating on the pond with loons or reading on the deck with the bald eagle watching from across the water. You can work out a lot of problems by taking an hour to throw rocks in the water with a 2-year-old grandson. By our last-night-dinner at the Surry Inn, with the crackling fire behind us and the sun setting before us, we knew we were better for our visit.
