Where are the water & electric?

The condo couldn't be in a better location. The beach is one of the best in the world. San Juan is a beautiful place to visit and would be a wonderful place to retire to. After staying in San Juan in 2007 & 2008 at hotels we decided to try renting a condo. One thing we didn't think to ask before renting is whether we should be concerned about losing electric and water during our stay. So guess what? Four times during the 10 days we were staying here we lost water and electric. Two of those times were for an entire day. Imagine being told by the owner that we should go to the store up the corner to buy water to flush the toilet. Also imagine climbing up 3 flights of stair in total darkness to the humming of the generator powering the building next door. I had thought that perhaps when he returned our security deposit that he might also consider refunding some of the rental to make up for the inconvenience we suffered, but he didn't. The best he could do was tell us that Puerto Rico is like a third world country and that his friends ask him why he continues to go there. I understand perfectly why he continues to go there, but cannot recommend staying in this property.
Owner's Response: During the period of this rental, the Condado area of Puerto Rico went through an intermittant electrical Power outage. The problem had nothing to do with the condo, or the Stella Maris building, but affected the entire area of Condado. Without electricity the elevator and the water pumps do not work. The condo is on the 3rd floor an easy walk up for most people. After the first episode water was provided as a standby for drinking and toilet flushing if the outage should happen again. Two of the episodes lasted for under 1 hour and the other 2 episodes lasted for roughly 4 hours. These episodes were totally out of my control and I even offered the use of my nearby personal home for their bathroom and bathing needs.
Other than these power outages, their stay in San Juan was uneventful and they seemed content with their stay and never mentioned expecting to be refunded any compensation for their 9 hours without electricity during their 10 day stay.Unfortunately, in this business you can't make everyone happy no matter how hard you try.
