Petra, the owner lives in the building. She wants her guests to feel at home and personally attends to their needs and special wishes. A producer of documentaries on Mexico, she is an expert on unusual destinations and activities and will gladly assist you in planning your Mexican vacation, both in Mexico City and the rest of the country.
Petra, the German owner (she speaks German, English, Spanish and French) has lived and worked as a journalist in Mexico for nearly 30 years. When authorities began to spruce up the decaying Centro Histórico ten years years ago, she bought two apartments on the top floor of a stately (and earthquake-safe) building between the Zocalo and Bellas Artes.
Before moving in, she totally remodeled, modernized and redecorated both properties – one to live in herself, the other to put up friends, relatives and paying guests when visiting Mexico.
I have travelled to Mexico City many times and this was the first time that I did not stay with family. It was the most comfortable stay of all. Our hostess and her staff were extremely knowledgeable and accomodating. We felt like they were family by the time we left. They gave us the opportunity to see so much of Mexico in a very short period of time. The apartment was always clean and neat and the breakfast foods were fresh. It was amazingly quiet and the location extremely handy for everything from shopping and dining to sightseeing. Definitely an oasis in a charming but otherwise hectic city.

This is a unique find. Beautiful apartment, tastefully
done, with large, luxurious living space. It's a quiet
and welcome refuge in the heart of a great but
frantic city. Petra is an incredible hostess. She's
mastered the art of being constantly helpful,
without ever being intrusive. And that's a rare and
welcome quality. We've travelled enough and are
fairly demanding, yet we can say without hesitation,
this was a remarkably pleasant experience for us.
We had such a wonderful experience! the apartment was spacious and well equipped. Though we did not meet Petra she left us in the very capable hands of Ela and Ceci. They did everything they could to make sure we enjoyed Mexico City and the apartment. The views from the living room were delightful. We even had hummingbirds visit the feeders on the terrace.
This lovely apartment is perfect if you want to stay in the bustling center of Mexico City. The view is spectacular. You can walk to many of the major sights and good restaurants. The subway, which is a fantastic bargain and incredibly efficient, is literally around the corner. Petra and Ceci are gracious hosts and delightful company. Our family of five enjoyed our trip to the market and cooking class with Ceci tremendously. Between Ceci's explanations and the kindness of the stall holders we learned much more about ingredients than we had visiting markets on our own. Petra knowing of my husband's interest in eating bugs pointed out a restaurant where he could snack on them to his heart's content. Petra also organised our transport to and from the airport as well as a balloon ride over Teotihuacan which was a highlight of our stay. We are so glad we had a guided tour of the ruins with Petra afterwards as we found it much more interesting and informative than if we had seen it on our own. I highly recommend this apartment and taking advantage of Petra's extensive knowledge of the city.
This apartment was perfect for our trip. Our group included 7, which the apartment more than adequately accommodated. It was spacious, well-kept, clutter-free, and comfortable. Working with each of the apartment representatives was great - they were kind and hospitable, making sure we knew everything we needed to know for our stay. I also felt like our group could have consulted them with questions about the city and they would have been happy to answer. For visitors the location is perfect. The apartment is very close to subway lines, within walking distances of museums and shopping, and centrally located in the city. Overall, our visit to Mexico City was greatly improved by staying here.
We just returned from an 8 day stay at this penthouse. Everything was perfect. The apartment is beautiful and the views are stunning. Since the apartment is in the revived Centro Historico you are immersed in the history of this incredible city but at the same time have totally modern conveniences and great restaurants nearby. Petra is the perfect host, she is nearby when you need her with in-depth knowledge of what to do, where to eat, etc. but she is never intrusive. I assumed that the photos made the apartment look better than it would in person but I was wrong. If anything the photos don't do the space justice. The flexibility of the accommodations are a big plus. My wife and I stayed in the apartment alone for the first 4 nights and then friends joined is for the last 4. Petra only charged us for the space we used yet we had use of the entire living areas the whole time we were there. My wife and I have made numerous trips to Mexico City and always stayed in hotels but no more. We will stay here from now on.
I highly recommend Bolivar Suites for a stay in Mexico City. Our party of 4 just returned from a 1 week stay here. The accommodations were luxurious. The apartment is beautiful, yet comfortable. It's full of light and beautifully decorated. It is in a central location - easy to reach sites in the Centro Historico by for and close to the Metro. And breakfast (pastries, fruit, coffee, etc.) is provided each day.
Petra and Cecilia are wonderful hosts. Petra has mastered the skill of being helpful without being intrusive. She offered perfect, individualized advice on which sites to see and where to go. And - she literally wrote the book! (She is a co-author on the Mexico edition of the Eyewitness series.) She also offers more structured activities for an extra fee, if desired. We took a cooking class from Cecilia, which included going to the Merced Market. On my own, I would have only scratched the surface of this bustling, complicated maze of a market. With Ceci and Petra, I feel like I actually experienced it!
I highly recommend this apartment. Without question, we will stay here when we return to Mexico City.
