About Russell Betts and Noel Bennett

Sir Dr. Russell Betts ('Russ') has lived and worked most of his professional life in Asia, the South Pacific, and Europe addressing issues relating to social, economic and political change. Noel Bennett has lived most of her life in the Southwest. She is an abstract artist and shows at Bosshard Gallery in Santa Fe. In past years Noel lived with the Navajo for eight years and authored nine books on Navajo weaving, history and culture. Noel brings to Colorful Santa Fe a well-honed sense of color and unique perspectives on native world-views......

Together we welcome the opportunity of hosting you in Colorful Santa Fe!

Russell Betts and Noel Bennett purchased this house in 2000
Why Russell Betts and Noel Bennett chose Santa Fe

Years ago we hand-built a now somewhat-celebrated, environmental strawbale home in the Jemez Mountains above Santa Fe. Ten years ago we decided to purchase an in-town pied a'terre--just a small gem-of-a-place in which we could overnight during shopping trips in Santa Fe. Wanting to get the right place in the right location, we engaged in an eight month exhaustive search and ended up purchasing--not one--but two adobe homes in this historic neighborhood just 3 blocks from the Plaza. They became our first guest homes. Now, in addition to living in this same neighborhood, we manage 8 other guesthomes in the same residential block. Why are were we so seduced by this neighborhood? In short, it is partway up the ONLY knoll close to the Plaza. So from within any of our guesthomes, there is a constant sense of place: Our over-the-roof-top-views are of the historic Santa Fe Cathedral against a backdrop of mountain ranges and glorious sunsets. AND WITHIN 4-5 WALKING MINUTES WE ARE DOWNTOWN--RIGHT IN THE VERY HEART OF OLD SANTA FE! Here the glories of historic Santa Fe and our Southwest landscape are bundled into one. Our fascinating guests keep coming back and are now friends. We'll never move!

Great Location and Value

My time at Santa Fe was made even better by staying at Casa Adore'. The property gives you the experience of living in one of Santa Fe's historic homes and offered every amenity I needed. The property has a great location just off a quiet road. Casa Adore' is located walking distance from the Historic Plaza and Canyon Road and offers easy driving access to all of downtown Santa Fe. Noel and Christa were friendly, easy to work with and very responsive to all my questions. I would definitely recommend staying at one of the homes on this property.

Kindness and Hospitality

A mere "Thank You" certainly seems inadequate for the kindness and hospitality shown us by you three. Our stay in Casa Adore couldn't have been more comforting; nor better medicine for our very souls. Love,

Santa Fe lodging at its authentic best

5 of 5
Submitted: October 23, 2012 Stayed: October 2012
In between two separate different family gatherings, we had three very helpful refreshing nights and days at Casa Adore. It turns out that this casa is the smallest of Russ and Noel's collection of eight. At almost 800 square feet, however, it was wonderfully roomy for just the two of us with a large farm-style kitchen, comfortable study and queen-sized bedroom. Plus a full bath and a half. All of it was adobe casa architecture at its authentic best with delightful, comfortable furnishings, many of them old pieces. Noel's large scale contemporary geometric art was a great counterpoint. Be sure to at least scan her published book about her experiences on a local reservation learning weaving from an indigenous tribe. We also enjoyed our small, private outdoor sitting area with a B/Q. Two things that added to our enjoyment were Russ' personal attention and our chance to talk with him about his life-long international experiences. (Unfortunately, only had a chance to meet Noel.) Plus being within walking distance Santa Fe's Plaza and Canyon Road, the world-famous several-mile long collection of art galleries.

Just lovely! Wheelchair accessible!

5 of 5
Submitted: October 3, 2012 Stayed: September 2012
We had such a lovely time in Casa Adore. We were warmly greeted by Noel and enjoyed getting to know a little about she and Russ. Amazingly, we have common friends--the southwest may seem wide open, but it's a small world!

The space is beautiful and had everything we needed for a 4-night stay. Could easily have stayed longer, and have dreamed of downsizing our lifestyle to a space much like this casa. The bed was very comfortable and we slept very well--we were even visiting during fiesta days, and the loud celebrations were over by 10pm, so sleep was restful. The shower was bright and cheerful. Enjoyed sunny mornings at the kitchen table or out at the courtyard table.

We must mention that we contacted every "wheelchair accessible" listing on VRBO within our price range. It turned out that although several are on the first floor, many did not have bathrooms or doorways that could accommodate a wheelchair. We called Noel for details, and Russ immediately rushed over to measure doorways and check other details. The main living spaces are ideal for a wheelchair user who absolutely cannot stand. The bathroom is a tight fit for the chair, but it works; note-we brought our own shower chair, and slideboard, and the shower head is standard height, rather than removable or on an adjustable arm. And there is a slight lip to enter the front door, but was manageable with a tiny boost. For those proficient with wheelies, it would be no problem. The gravel driveway was probably the only challenge without pneumatic tires, but again, we made it work.

Whether traveling with or without a wheelchair, we really enjoyed this place, and would rent again if we're traveling without our cats (hint, hint---if cats are added to the OK list, we'd be even MORE likely to return!) Highly recommend!
