We love The Hula Hut

Our family of 7 spent 5 weeks in the Hula Hut over the Christmas and New Years holidays. This spacious property is uniquely decorated in what I would call "1950's tropical" with pastel colors, wall masks, and large, comfortable, bamboo furniture. The wrap around lanai offered wonderful views of the ocean, an extra sleeping space for my daughter, and let in the cool breezes to refresh us all. The kitchen was well equipped, the best of any place that I have ever rented anywhere. The proximity to town was perfect for a morning stroll to the market (1 1/4 miles each way) for fresh fruits and veggies for the day. The backyard is beautifully landscaped and the swimming pool was a real plus for my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter. The only drawback was the traffic noise from Alii Drive at night, when trying to sleep, but it didn't take long for us all to get used to that. My daughter simply turned on the room air conditioner and the white noise drowned it all out.
The Hula Hut is a "work in progress" as the owner told me, so don't expect a modern, new feeling when you see her and when you walk in. There are plans to paint the exterior and rebuild the aging back stairwell, which will really spiff her up.
The owner was a delight to work with, and when we told her that there was no BBQ grill, as we had expected, she went out and bought us a new one.
We would all happily return to the Hula Hut and highly recommend it to anyone who is not the, brand, new condo type. If you like character in your surroundings and space to move around in, this is your place.
