Regarding Pets and Smoking: After much consideration, we have decided not to allow pets in our property. Most pets are well behaved, we know, and certainly, many people love to travel with their pets. However, in our experience both personally, and in business, the incidence of allergic reaction to dander is prevalent. So in consideration for those with allergies we have established a permanent policy of NO Pets Allowed. Please understand our position, and know we do personally love pets.

Our property is NO SMOKING, INSIDE OR OUT.

Rules of the house:: Our property is NON SMOKING: INSIDE OR OUT.

Good quality linens and towels are provided.

Please leave all used linens in a bag by the door for the housekeeper upon your departure, and make sure the cottage is left in the same condition in which you found it. Deposit will be returned as soon as we are advised by the housekeepers that the cottage is in good order.

If something is inadvertently broken, please advise us right away. In 2013 our housekeeping charge of $60 will be deducted from the security deposit after departure in place of the original add-on with the reservation.

Refund of security deposit will be $140if there is no damage or extra cleaning required.

Occupancy:: The property is best suited for two adults.

No one under the age of 21 is allowed to rent without a parent on premises. Although we want everyone to enjoy themselves, this is a small neighborhood where everyone sleeps with the windows open, so partying and/or playing of loud music or TV after a reasonable hour is not appreciated. Our neighbors are kind and friendly people whose quiet enjoyment of their property we respect.

We hope you have a great vacation with us, and will want to return.

Our ARTIST's Cottage, a weekly rental, is located on the 'quiet side' of our island, yet near many of ANP's most popular beaches and trails. We love the ambiance of near seaside living with lobster pounds close by, as well as the charming village life, craft and artists' venues, Sights and sounds of the sea give us pleasure in living here.

Walk to town, Near free island bus (during the season), Quiet and private. Cozy cottage within walking distance of the water. Boats and sea sounds abound! Convenient to out-island ferries.

A NICE STAY ON THE QUIETSIDE

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I stayed at the Artist's Cottage for our summer vacation, and we were very pleased with everything. The cottage is clean, well maintained, and looks just like the pictures posted on the listing.

The location of the cottage in SWH is perfect (a comfortable walk to downtown's restaurants, local grocer, etc.). We also felt that this location was a great jumping off point for us to make our visits to ANP.

The amenities provided were perfect for how we like to vacation. The bed was comfy, and the living room area was comfy as well. The eating area is a nice size for two, and the kitchenette was perfect for making our small meals.

Finally, Barbara was a pleasure to work with while getting things organized before our arrival. Correspondence with her was top notch, and she makes AMAZING scones! :-)

I would recommend this rental to any single traveller or a couple. If you like your destination to be relatively quiet and relaxing, then you will not be disappointed.

Owner's Response: Tim and his sweet wife were a joy to host! It is such a pleasure to share our property with fine folks who are so appreciative! We are in a beautiful part of the world and these such special guests make our efforts very much worthwhile. These are the kind of folks for whom our place was intended, and I hope they will want to make our cottage their home in Acadia for summers to come!

A COMFORTABLE AND QUIET RETREAT.

  • 5 of 5
We had a lovely stay at the artist's cottage! My husband and I decided to take a honeymoon up on Mt Desert Island, and we couldn't have been more pleased with our accommodations for the week.

We felt that the location was truly ideal. The home is about a five-ten minute walk from downtown Southwest Harbor, which has plenty of activity without feeling overrun like Bar Harbor. We could drive anywhere on the island without trouble.

One of the reasons that we love to stay in homes while on vacation is so we can prepare our own meals. the kitchen, while small, provided us with all of the space and amenities we needed to make any meal we could dream up. We did bring our own knives. (The grocery store in town, Sawyer's, was PHENOMENAL! A lovely place to pick up gourmet prepared foods and high quality ingredients.)

We loved the sleeping loft with it's large, comfortable bed and high ceilings. We were able to truly unpack and feel at home. The living space was clean and comfortable. What a peaceful and welcome vacation!

Thanks to Bill and Barbara for a fantastic stay!!

Owner's Response: How totally exciting to hear that our cottage was such a happy experience for our honeymooners! Their enthusiasm and decisiveness in the reservation process was refreshing, and we are thrilled to know they appreciated our efforts to provide a comfortable, well appointed and clean place for them to live in while enjoying our magical island, Acadia NP, Southwest Harbor, and themselves! We would love for them to return for future getaways!

PERFECT GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I stayed here for a week for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it. The location was perfect. We were a minutes walk from downtown Southwest Harbor and enjoyed the local food and shops. The cottage itself was exceptionally clean and accommodating. Barbara and Bill were very welcoming and a joy to do business with. We highly recommend this cottage, and we would love to come back next summer!

ARTIST COTTAGE, SOUTHWEST HARBOR, MAINE

  • 5 of 5
The Cottage is exactly as advertised and had every amenity one could want including a portable folding chair and stool to use for sitting outside, and even 2 yellow rain jackets to use in case of inclement weather. The property was comfortable, clean and obviously well maintained. The owner, who lives right next door, brought extra towels thinking that we might not have enough. The location was a bit of a walk to the center of town. Internet WiFi was spotty. We stayed for one week and it was a good base for all activities around Mt. Desert Island and in Acadia NP. We particularly enjoyed dinner at the Red Sky Restaurant in Southwest Harbor.

PERFECT RETREAT

  • 5 of 5
I recently spent two heavenly weeks at the Artist's Cottage in Southwest Harbor, Maine. Located in a quiet neighborhood in this lovely village/town, this comfy cottage is well designed and maintained. Filled with beautiful art work and country antiques, its quiet setting offers the perfect reprieve from a day of hiking, bicycling and photographing . The owners (an artist and professional tour guide) made me feel like right at home and were always available to answer questions about the region and suggest interesting places to visit. Southwest Harbor has good restaurants and shops and is only a 15 minute drive from Acadia National Park. I loved the library and the bird carving museum in particular. I highly recommend the Artists's Cottage!

CHARMING, COMFORTABLE, CONVENIENT

  • 5 of 5
I felt the thoughtful presence behind the welcoming table set for a meal, the charming, well-maintained furnishings, the spacious sleeping accommodations with a sitting area, and respect for the guests. The location was convenient for all sorts of activities, from exploring the outdoors to shopping in a village and being near restaurants. I apprecieated the nearby food market and specialty market, which had excellent produce, meats, and cheeses. The owners were excellent hosts.

The only things I missed were a lamp for reading near the wing chair, and, in the kitchen, a 2-quart pot and a larger skillet.
