Rented the managers house/studio suite. Found they were not equipped as promised on the website. Many supplies missing ie(iron, blender, enuff towels, fry pans). House and studio suite were not as clean as could be. Appliances on bottoms and counters were soiled. Chemical spray was left on porch. Many bugs in kitchen areas. Grounds were great but pool could have been heated just a tidge, prolly okay in the warmer months. Location is great, only a short walk to the beach and also a nice trail to other resorts. Would suggest some simple cosmetic updates and a good cleaning. Would prolly not return to this property under condition it is at this time. Price is comparable to others that look a bit better kept.
Owner's Response: As a small, private vacation rental owner, it's always hard to respond when a guest has no complaints while they're staying with you, but suddenly have lots of complaints after they've returned home. It's particularly difficult when the complaints are sent along with a demand for returning some of the funds paid for their stay.
My housekeeping manager was on the property several times during the stay, and neither she nor I ever heard a peep about bugs or cleanliness, or even needing more towels. If we had, we would have acted on it immediately, that's why I make sure all my guests have my housekeeper's cell phone number.
It's a particularly difficult situation since this family was part of a larger group that damaged the sixty and seventy year old hardwood floors by wearing high heels inside. Like all vacation rentals in Hawaii, we post notices asking guests to remove their shoes inside -- it's one of the wonderful customs that make visiting Hawaii so relaxing. Usually the only problem we have when folks wear shoes inside is the sand or dirt tracked in. In this case, my housekeeper saw the damage and brought it to their attention during their stay. The other part of the group (the ones actually wearing the high heels) are still trying to demand money back without acknowledging the damage they caused. Interestingly their email contains some of the same language as this review.
When my guests make their final payment, I send them an email with the cell phone numbers for my housekeeping manager and maintenance man. That way, in addition to knowing how to contact me, you can always reach somebody who will respond immediately if you have the slightest need. I take accusations of bugs very seriously -- the house and cottages are professionally treated on the same regular schedule that the company treats my own home here on Kauai. I've spoken with my gardener about the sprayer he left out so that shouldn't happen again. Apparently the hair dryer and iron migrated from the studio to the manager's house, possibly from the previous guests who had also rented both together. I keep extra hair dryers, irons, blenders and coffee makers at the property so if these guests had let us know they couldn't find something, we could have ensured it was replaced immediately.
Your comfort is our primary concern while you stay with us! And please read our other reviews, to see that no one has ever before complained about bugs or how clean our units are.
