A Good Beach Vacation
We enjoyed our stay in this cottage on the channel. Our three kids, ages 10, 8 and 1 1/2, loved the shallow water-walk to Lake Michigan and then the wave jumping and sand-castle building on the (very) nearby beach. When the wind isn't blowing, you can hear the sound of the waves of Lake Michigan and you can see a peek of it through the trees. The area was fairly quiet, even though traffic is a bit busy to the nearby lighthouse/beach. The only time there was any loud noise after dark was the fireworks during the 4th of July celebrations (which is expected), so we were pleased to be able to sleep well.
We enjoyed the fire pit, grill, and picnic on the roomy deck. There were seven of us sharing the home, so we had plenty of room to ourselves. The cottage was clean, and we enjoyed being able to be so close to watch the sunsets on Lake Michigan. The only downside was the lack of air conditioning, but Michigan was experiencing an unusually long/sticky heat wave the week we were there. But there were really only two nights that were uncomfortable, and it always felt good outdoors in the shade, and usually there was a nice breeze blowing through the many windows.
While there, we went on the dune tours with Mac Woods, rented a boat on Silver Lake and had a picnic at the beach by the lighthouse. We also visited That Place Restaurant in nearby Hart took a few days to enjoy Ludington and Pentwater.
One tip: bring your own hangers. There aren't many closets, but the one or two there have but one hanger.
It was a good beach vacation!
