Stockbridge is in the Berkshire Hills and like Newport was a summer getaway for New York's 400. Some of the Berkshire 'cottages' can be viewed and have become homes for arts festivals such as Tanglewood or Historic houses open to the public such as Naumkeag, or the Mount, home of Edith Wharton. Others have become hotels such as Blantyre and Wheatley. The community offers a rich mixture of cultural activities, music, dance, theater, museums and galleries. The surrounding hills are part of the network of state parks and can be used for walking, riding, and skiing. There are public golf courses and tennis courts in every town.
