The Loveliest Little Home on a Gorgeous Spot!

This cottage is a charming and serene haven for those seeking natural beauty and peace. It's masterfully designed and laid out to maximize light, flow, and a sense of airiness and spaciousness. The details are unique but the feeling is classic and cozy. It's the perfect home base for a family of four or five (two kids in twin beds, one kid in single room) or a couple seeking a tranquil, unspoiled, expansive vacation spot. Mt Desert Island is a fabulous place to vacation- hikes, lobsters, boating etc- and this cottage is a great place to live while there.

Don’t stay here (unless you are a mosquito)

Submitted: August 11, 2009 Stayed: July 2009
If you are a mosquito you will love this place since you will have plenty of company. We booked one week at the Prud’homme cabin in the Bar Harbor area. This cabin is on the quieter SW side of Mount Desert Island, which was exactly what our family was looking for. Unfortunately for us, we couldn’t see the thousands of mosquitoes surrounding the cabin from the exterior photos of the cabin on the travel web site. Let me clarify about the mosquitoes – my wife and I have lived in Florida all of our lives. We have plenty of mosquitoes here in Florida. I have also traveled extensively around the world, even to remote areas in Sumatra (Indonesia), an area plagued by malaria carrying mosquitoes. However, never has either of us encountered the shear number of mosquitoes that we came across at this cabin. I assume that main reason for the number of mosquitoes is that that cabin is situated on a marshy peninsula with lots of standing, stagnant water. Prime breeding grounds for mosquitoes. Too bad that this wasn’t mentioned in the ad listing. The cumulative 5 minutes that we spent outside of the cabin during the week consisted solely of our trips running from the car and back. Other than that, we went somewhere else on MDI to get away from the mosquitoes or stayed indoors. Even that was a problem since some of the screen windows had splits and the mosquitoes would get inside from opening the doors, regardless of how quick you were.

Our family enjoyed the Bar Harbor/MDI area, but would never stay at this cabin again. I would advise you to do the same and look elsewhere on MDI.
