On the ocean, close to Bar Harbor/Acadia National Park and only 26 feet to a private beach. Watch seals bask in the sun and frolic in the water from the comfort of a couch or spacious deck. Eagles fly by and regularly perch in nearby trees. Near Ellsworth, Blue Hill, Bucksport, and Bangor. Quaint cottage completely refurbished including new bathroom and kitchen.
This whole experience was great. The pictures undersell the view, and the place is super clean and comfortable. We made it to Acadia in about 40m. We did everything last minute, but Russel made everything easy for us. Can't recommend enough!
I can't imagine a better way to enjoy Maine. The bay just steps away can keep you occupied for hours; watching the tides, the loons, a bald eagle, and a wonderful rocky beach. Yet minutes to Blue Hill, Deer Isle, Acadia NP, Schoonic Peninsula, Ellsworth. The cottage was immaculate and perfect for a couple. Be sure to check out the "corner store" in downtown Surry: essentials plus great wines, and terrific homemade pizza.
We absuolutely loved our stay in this immaculate cottage overlooking the bay. Everything was just as described and more. We especially enjoyed the view right outside the windows of the birds coming and going off the rocks during low tide. The location was perfect for exploring Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor and then coming back to a fully stocked kitchen to prepare a meal, nicely removed from the summer tourist hubbub. We would like to mention that Russ installed a hand rail on the entry steps and a detachable shower head prior to our arrival in consideration of my mobility issues. We would highly recommend this peaceful rental to anyone staying in the Bar Harbor area.
We had a wonderful stay in this cottage and especially enjoyed waking up to that spectacular view! It was clean, comfortable, and away from the crowds in Bar Harbor. We discovered the part of Acadia National Park near Winter Harbor, and that was beautiful - it was about the same distance (half hour or so) to the main part of the park on Mount Desert Island, so it's a well-situated location. We cooked dinner at the cottage a couple of nights (and enjoyed the extremely fresh lobster from the nearby East Surry Lobster Co,) and were also very pleasantly surprised by the food at the nearby Surry Inn. While we really enjoyed the kayak tour at Mt. Desert Island, we would have liked to kayak in Union Bay right from the cottage - maybe next time! Thank you, Russ, for an enjoyable stay.
We were so thrilled with our weeklong stay at this cottage in August. The cottage was spotless and comfortably furnished, and the kitchen well stocked with dishes and cookware. The hammock and deck made for great lounging and taking in the incredibly beautiful view of the bay. We loved watching the seals offshore with the provided binoculars - another great touch! Also loved having the gas grill readily available, as we did a lot of cooking at the house rather than eating out. We hadn't realized from the photos that there was a larger house close by the cottage, but were happy to find it still felt very private.
The nearby town of Ellsworth was very scenic and provided a few options for meals and activities, and it was a reasonable ~35min drive to Acadia (not super close, but an enjoyable and scenic route so didn't mind doing the drive almost every day). Being removed from any big towns made for a breathtaking view of the stars after dark - we saw dozens of shooting stars lying out on the hammock one night.
Overall, the property was a wonderful find -I couldn't recommend it more highly!
One of the best vacations we have ever experienced. The listing description and pictures are extremely accurate. The cottage is immaculate; clean, comfortable, and everything you would need is provided. Russ was very accommodating and very easy to deal with. Everything was handled via email. I would recommend this rental to anyone who wants to explore and enjoy the attractions of Bar Harbor and MDI, but then return to a peaceful retreat away from it all. It took about 40 minutes to get to downtown Bar Harbor, and about 30-35 to get to the entrance of Acadia National Park.
We enjoyed the deck, spending time on the private rocky beach, and swimming in the bay (at high tide). We saw seals and bald eagles within hours of arriving. We recommend buying lobster from a local who lives on the next street over in Surry. It was the freshest, most delicious lobster we have ever tasted.
Our best days were spent hiking in Acadia National Park (amazing trails leading to breathtaking views), mini-golfing at Pirate's Cove, and exploring the shops, bars, and restaurants of Bar Harbor. Don't miss out on eating at the Side Street Cafe...a local favorite with a great menu and awesome food. It was very hard to leave at the end of the week, but we know we will be back. Thank you Russ and Dawn, for everything!
Surry is located conveniently near Acadia National Park, Bar Harbor, and Blue Hill. Our location is on a private country road. There is great dining, sightseeing, shopping, antiquing withing a few miles in any direction.
