About Amber Walker

My name is Amber and our family has been visiting Kona since I was a little girl. My grandparents have owned this unit since the late 70s and now our family's children get to enjoy coming here just like we did when we were young.

When we visit we especially love going to Makalawena beach (worth the hike!), Keiki pond (behind the aquatics center), tide-pool exploration, perusing the shops, Magic Sands, Kahaluu beach/snorkeling, kayaking to Kealakekua Bay with dolphins, and Hawi town.

When we are not relaxing in Kona we reside in Washington. I enjoy speaking with renters and helping them to discover Kona.

Amber Walker purchased this condo in 1978

Why Amber Walker chose Kailua Kona

My grandparents first fell in love with Kona in the late 60s. During their first trip they stayed at the classic Kona Tiki hotel, still in operation just down the street from the Alii Villas condo complex. At that time, Kailua was a very small town with only 2 hotels (The Kona Inn, once a large, grand hotel turned the rooms into shops in the early 70s.) and no traffic lights. Quite the sleepy hawaiian village!

After visiting for about a decade, they bought at the Alii villas because the unit's view is unsurpassed. Looking north into Kailua Bay and west out to sea, it offers the best shoreline and ocean/sunset views!

What makes this condo unique

One of my favorite rituals is to go walking on Alii Drive early in the mornings. The air is cool, yet it's sunny. You can smell all the tropical flowers!

Our location is very convenient to shopping centers, beaches, and even just to putter through the shoreline access trails near home. There is so much to do right from the condo, even if you didn't rent a car!

4th time staying...wonderful property and great benefit-to-price ratio in Kona

  • 5 of 5

I also wrote a review in 2013 but realized I'm counting, I think, my 4th stay this year. First, as everyone mentions, the sounds of the ocean and views of the whales/dolphins, etc. is awesome. Even more importantly, the owners are totally and instantly responsive. Prior stay, I got permission to replace the recently broken tv and get the wifi installed. This year Amber immediately ordered new blender. The upgrades are regular: new curtains and couch before; new tile coming this Spring. Finally, the unit is very well equipped with all the toys you want (ie snorkel, boogie board, chairs, umbrellas, etc) and the Aloha spirit at Alii Villa condnimium, which Gina mentioned in her review, makes sunset viewing a social event for all.

Incredible ocean view

  • 5 of 5

The view from the extra large lanai is the highlight of this beautifully maintained condo. We saw baby & big whales and dolphins this trip. You are lulled to sleep by the sound of waves. The property as a whole, with flowers everywhere, & the heated pool are a delight. Wifi & new screens, curtains & furniture have added to our pleasure in staying here. There are boogie boards, snorkelling gear & yoga mats as well as a big beach umbrella available for guests. We've already re-booked for next year. It is a very quiet unit, except for the waves, as the building is made of concrete. The other condo owners & guests meet by the ocean to watch the sunset & are easy to get to know.

Fully enjoyed our three week vacation in this condo. Amber was very helpful & accommodating. Fully equipped kitchen, as well as ocean gear. View from the lanai was super. Saw cruise ships, whales, dolphins & seals. Cross breezes made it very comfortable. Relaxing on the lanai every morning & watching all the ocean activity was great. Definitely would recommend & stay in this condo again!

Just as advertised.

  • 5 of 5

The Condo was just as advertised. and Amber was great at answering all our questions. The Condo had snorkel gear and boogie boards that were a hit with the kids and adults. The sound of the crashing waves 24 hours a day was very relaxing. The location is right in the middle between town and great snorkeling. I would recommend it to anyone and would book it again.

Perfect for Ironman 2014

  • 5 of 5

What a great apartment.

To be so close to the water with a great view and the sound of the sea to send you to sleep at night was perfect.

The apartment had everything we needed, (including snorkelling gear and boogie boards !) and the 2 bedrooms were just right for the 4 of us (2 kids).

Kona town is 10 min walk away and very relaxed with lots of cafes and bars.

Beaches are a bit further away, but they do have turtles and lots of fish to swim with !

The apartment pool is a great size and very nicely set out.

The Best

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I were in Kona just this last April, we had such a great time and so thoroughly enjoyed staying in this condo we've made plans to go back in October. It's a really wonderful place, peaceful and airy. We spent hours on the lanai watching spinner dolphins playing close to the shoreline. It might not be obvious, but just steps from the condo there are a couple of places to access the ocean and go for a swim or a snorkel. And what's really nice is your provided with just about anything you didn't even think you'd want, for instance binoculars! You won't need to drag your fins, mask and snorkel along on your trip, there is actually a decent selection. Lots of good snorkeling spots in the vicinity and if you like Poke, you'll be happy to know The Poke Shack is not too far away (on Alii Drive also). So you really can't beat the value, it's like a home away from home, comfortable and cozy and I really don't care if I ever stay anywhere else. Highly Recommended!
