The spacious yard, comfortable accommodations, and closeness to the beach make this a gem in my book. I found the home and yard so neatly kept up I would unequivocally recommend this rental. The setting was ideal and because I so enjoyed my visit last year I cannot wait to be there again this summer.

Do Not Rent This Home!

Unhappy in Va Reston, VA

My husband and I were extremely disappointed with this property. Upon arrival, we found the house to be dusty, dirty, and housing spiders and bugs. The sofa had a film on it that made me not want to sit on it. This led to a very uncomfortable vacation home. The bathroom shower had rust and felt all together dirty. Thank goodness we brought our own sheets and towels because I would have been afraid to use any in the house. The venetian blinds had about an inch of grime on them, leading me to believe they had never been cleaned. Thankfully, we had access to another beach in the area because the beach one is supposed to have access to is very misleading. The pass that comes with the house leads to a very small corner of beach that is both rocky and smelly. One is not granted access to the beach shown in the property rental pictures- be advised. The worst part about this rental was the owner. She assured us she would not cash a security deposit check (this was money not included in the rental fee) when we mailed it to her prior to renting. However, the check was cashed. When we left the house we cleaned and vacuumed and definitely left the house cleaner than when we found it. When I was cleaning the bathroom mirror (which was not secured to the wall) it fell off the shelf and hit me in the head. When we did get home and our check was returned, the owner had taken a substantial amount out for "cleaning" . I was not under the impression that my money was supposed to pay her cleaning bill- especially when the house was so dirty when we go there. I would never recommend this rental to anyone. Don't go!
Owner's Response: I was very sorry to hear that you were disappointed in our cottage. I wish you had called upon your arrival or sometime during your two week stay and I would have been happy to correct any shortcomings. I also wish you had taken my suggestion and had your family view the cottage before you rented it since they live in Green Hill. Why pass judgment on linens when they were not included in the rental? It seems your unhappiness comes from our retainng 25% of the security deposit for cleaning and a broken mirror. We keep the rent low and don’t charge a cleaning fee to make Green Hill accessible to anyone who wants to enjoy its charm. All we ask is that you leave the cottage the way you found it.
The attached picture of the beach for renters is accurate, most of the living room furniture was new last summer and like most rentals there is a security deposit.
Anyone interested in renting should judge the cottage and Green Hill by the photographs and description I've included. It is a relaxing setting with a great beach, super for a summer vacation. We have had numerous guests who have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. My advice to anyone interested in a great beach community is, don't miss, beautiful Green Hill and our summer cottage.

Our lovely vacation

We have stayed in this cottage at Green Hill for the past two summers and have plans to go back to this beach house this summer, also. It is impeccably clean, and the bed in the master bedroom is truly comfortable. Green Hill Beach is close to the house, and we have spent many lovely days there. This cottage is a good value for your money. Let's be honest, it does not have a dishwasher, but when I'm on vacation, I don't cook anyway. There are great restaurants nearby.
The neighborhood has always been tranquil and the neighbors friendly, but not intrusive. I recommend this weekly rental for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation.

A Nightmare

Bette Davis stopped here to practice her immortal line: "What a dump." Smelly, dirty, run-down, unattractive, unbalanced, unappealing, uncomfortable, unbelievably disappointing, and the owner is up your hindquarters with his silly golf cart that he stores in the garage, which -- by the way -- is more attractive than the house. In-laws live across the street and their kids scream all the time. "Private Beach" is abandoned, rock-strewn postage-stamp size piece of coast right out of Wuthering Heights. They give you a beach pass but you won't need it because no one monitors the beach nor does anyone frequent it. Furniture is not only appalingly ugly but so uncomfortable you have to sit on the floor. Don't touch the blinds, your fingers will stick to it. Stay away!
Owner's Response: This review from this anonymous author does not reflect my description of our cottage at Green Hill at all. As a matter of fact I was shocked to read this as we have never in our three years of renting the cottage had any complaints, not even directly from this renter. The only accuracies I find in this review are my senior citizen parents (with no children) live across the street and we do keep a golf cart in the garage. Please judge the cottage and Green Hill by the photographs and description I've included. It is a bright cheerful and relaxing place to spend a week with family or friends. We have had numerous repeat guests who have thorougly enjoyed themselves. Don't let one persons reflection keep you from beautiful Green Hill and our summer cottage.
