relaxing location

This house is in a lovely location - and we enjoyed our week here.
However the experience was marred by our deposit being taken by the owner because we has not been able to wash dry and replace all the bedding back onto the 5 beds! This was after we had told her we would do our best and she asked us to leave her a note. We had washed / dried one load and left another load on as we left for the airport. Be aware " linen " is defined by owner as towels and tea towels also !
You have been warned !
Owner's Response: Linens, which include sheets, blankets and towels, are all included in the house rental. Since American English and British English assign different meanings to the same words, the term "linens" may differ for someone living outside the US.
The lease (signed by tenants) and the rules of the house (received by tenants via email and posted at the house) both state that tenants are welcome to use the linens provided, but need to wash them and remake all beds with the same linens.
Since washing sheets and towels and making 5 beds and folding all the towels can be time consuming, tenants choosing not to use the linens provided are welcome to bring their own provided all beds are remade with the original bedding.
Since the lease does mandate doing the laundry and making the beds, the security deposit is adjusted accordingly. A tenant looses a portion (but not all) of the security deposit when almost all of the linens in the house need washing, drying and putting away but the house is in great shape otherwise.
The reviewer did loose a portion - not all - of the security deposit since there were 6 sets of sheets (for the 5 beds and the spare mattress) and almost all the house's dish (tea) and regular towels that needed to be laundered and put away in order to have the house ready on time for the next tenant.
There is a four hour window between when a tenant leaves ( 10 AM ) and the next checks in (2 PM) - so the lease and the rules of the house have been crafted to prevent misunderstandings.
When different words in English have different meanings (ex: tea towels vs dish towels) and when bad phone connections make it difficult to communicate (as was the case here) misunderstandings happen. However, when it takes significant time to get the house in order for the next tenant, the signed lease takes precedence and security deposits are adjusted accordingly.
