It's Always quiet and serene on Lake Garfield. The lake is over 300 acres but seems uninhabited! Everyone has loved our house...and our great town. We hope you will enjoy it as well!
We stayed here for 5 days and had a wonderful time! We have kids ages 2-10 and they all loved it. The house was perfect, well kept with everything you would need to cook great meals. BBQ was great. Awesome TV room with comfy couches - perfect for the kids. And the best part was the lake - the water was beautiful and clear. We went kayaking, fishing (all the kids caught) and swimming off the private dock. The town of Great Barrington is very close and is adorable with great ice cream! I couldn't recommend this place more for a relaxing and fun vacation. Mary Beth was very accommodating and the whole rental process could not have been easier. Can't wait to book again!
Home is spacious for family get-together.Clean and comfortable.Missed the napkins ,paper towels and dish towels but we managed.I expected a lake view but was disappointed. The most important thing to know is in regard to the walk down to dock.It is very steep.Could be a bit slippery on stones and steps. This is an access, not privately owned but I should be noted that this walkway is not suitable to elderly or handicapped. The steep walk up is very difficult.I have a knee that gives me some trouble and I had a rough time. The lake is very beautiful and very quiet. It's a great place to relax. We enjoyed the kayaks and canoe. The water was warmer than our pool back home. The kids enjoyed swimming out to the raft.It is safe for children. There is a nearby beach as an alternative swimming spot.It should be noted that there is none or poor cell service in the whole area.If you like to eat breakfast out ,go to the Roadside Cafe. The food is awesome.Try the pancakes.General Store also serves breakfast but menu is very limited and food not great.Great Barrington is 15 minutes away. Lots to do there.
Our large family (my husband and myself, 3 grown daughters, their mates, a few g'kids) had a wonderful reunion in this house. Ample, perfect for togetherness as well as spacious enough for "down" or private time. Very short walk to the dock and lake, where we could fish, lie around, take a kayak or canoe ride, or sit and sun bathe. There's also a family friendly beach one mile (easy walk for all) down the road -- safe for little kids, clean, roped off. We barbequed, ate in, and spent one day in nearby -- and lots of fun -- Great Barrington. This family was easy and straight forward to deal with. We're happy to be returning this summer.
Swim, fish, canoe or kayak off our dock and floating dock which is 5 min walk from our house. One mile walk /drive to the Lake Garfield sandy beach which may be better for toddlers and elderly. 20 minute drive to Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, Shakespeare & Co. and all other Berkshire attractions. 10 minute drive to fabulous food & restaurants in Great Barrington.
Other Activities: 20 min to Tanglewood, 10 min Butternut
Golf: Golf on 9 hole Greenoch Country Club course in Lee or 18 hole Egremont Golf Club. Cranwell Resort also has an 18 hole course in Lenox.
Ski: Butternut is 10 minute drive from our house.
