St. Michaels House Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms (4 with den), 3 baths (one is 1/2), sleeps 8

Cranford on the Miles is a waterfront home located on 3+ acres, in St. Michaels. Fully renovated, with Wi-Fi, there is a Master Bedroom with king bed, sitting room, and private balcony; Second Bedroom with a double bed; Third Bedroom with both a double and twin bed; and a Den with a trundle bed with 2 twins beds and a second balcony. Downstairs there is a queen sofa bed. Every room has a view of the water.

The private dock has electricity and water, from which you can watch wildlife, fish or crab (we usually catch a dozen crabs a day). Roast marshmallows over the fire pit, or cook your fish on the grill. Bring your boat and launch from the public boat ramp within walking distance.

Or just relax on either the screened porch with ceiling fans, cushioned sofa and chairs, or the front porch rocking chairs. Indoors, every bedroom has a satellite TV, two DVD players, games, books, and music CDs for all ages. The second family room has a fireplace.

Get away and relax at Cranford on the Miles, a piece of true Eastern shore elegance dating back to 1840. Tucked away on over 3.5 park-like acres, you’ll be enchanted by gorgeous broad water views. Sip coffee, have breakfast or evening drinks on your wrap-around screened waterside porch. Crab off the dock or take a family bike ride into the charming town of St. Michaels. Later, gather in the gourmet kitchen to prepare a dinner of the fish and crab you caught on your private dock. In the evening, open the sliders off the bedrooms and watch the stars, swans and beautiful sunsets from the two decks.

Enjoy your vacation in comfort. Linens and towels are provided free. We are dog friendly. Yes, we have central air conditioning, a fireplace and both a grill and fire pit. Yes, there is a dock with both electricity and water.

Enjoy the many open family rooms and challenge the kids to one of the board games provided. There are 4 separate areas for watching Direct TV. For outdoor fun, try your hand at croquet or volleyball, or roast marshmallows over the fire pit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

It's been a very fun and relaxing holiday here and we've really, really enjoyed it. Your home is so well stocked and cozy and in such a beautiful spot. So quiet and peaceful! I will miss my tea on the dock or the porch every morning! We loved our time at your home.

Wonderful Get-Away

  • 5 of 5
Cranford on the Miles is a wonderful home overlooking the Miles River with spectacular views from every room in the home. It is a close drive from metro DC and is always a wonderful, relaxing get-away. I try to go every year because I so enjoy it. One of my favorite things to do is to walk out the front door and head down to the dock where at the end is a wonderful bench. From this location, I am consumed with the beautiful view of the river in almost all directions and the wonderful shoreline birds flying around. Depending on the day, there may be sailboats, kayaks or other water vehicles cruising around and maybe a jumping fish or crab swimming by. If you are lucky you may be able to catch one. There is also a small beach area by which to access the water.
The beautiful, serene and quiet environment is coupled with a wonderful air-conditioned historic home equipped with all of today’s conveniences including those electronic needs we seem to not be able to live without. The home has a beautiful screened porch that includes a dining table and chairs along with sofa and comfy chairs on which to sit back and read a book or take an intended or unintended snooze. The owner has clearly thought of your every need in equipping the kitchen whether preparing a snack or a wonderful full course gourmet dinner with friends. In addition, the beds are incredibly comfortable and the owner provides a full cadre of nice sheets and towels for your use so you only need to pack your personal clothes and items. There is also a washer and dryer available.
The home, as you can see from the pictures, is well maintained and has lots of wonderful places to relax and/or get together with family and friends. The home is decorated as you would decorate your own home and has an Eastern Shore motif – try counting the number of items with crabs on them.
I’ve enjoyed the home as either a family or friends get-away. It has been perfect for both. It is a quick jaunt into historic downtown St. Michael’s to enjoy shopping, exploring and fun restaurants on the water. Groceries and other needs are only minutes away. In addition to St. Michael’s, there are lots of other towns and places to tour and visit that are a quick drive away and if you need to shop the outlets they are on the way coming or going.
The owner clearly wants you to have a wonderful time while you are at Cranford on the Miles and is very accommodating.

Absolutely incredible

  • 5 of 5
My mother has taken us on secret trips every year for over 25 years and this was one of them. We had no idea we were going to Maryland, and this place was truly amazing. We are lovers of old houses and history an this was what we love. My two sisters and I were so surprised at the size and quaintness of this house. It was obvious that the owner took pride in what they had in the house. It's was nicely decorated with a Maryland flair. My favorite was the 3 clocks throughout the house with faces on them. The house has many rooms and we made sure that we used all of them such as the living/fireplace room where we sat and talked, had a cocktail and and appetizer. The dining room is also nicely decorated and is so inviting for a nice family dinner which we took advantage of. In addition, we sat in the very large screened in porch to talk, have cocktails and enjoy the wonderful late afternoon sunsets and evening "sounds". This was so cool!! The local supermarket, Grawl's In St Michaels has awesome fresh crab cakes and is willing to steam fresh shrimp, that was incredible! We were so comfortable in our rooms/beds. The kitchen has everything and more. We barely had a reason to leave because we just enjoyed being there as a family and played games. The view of the water and the the pier was also very pleasant. There us also a beautiful fire pit there which we didn't use only because the weather was unseasonably warm in the mid 90's. If I have any. Complaint about this place it was that we only had 1 week to stay, we all loved it so much. Plan to stay 2 weeks, cuz you won't wanna leave!

Disappointing Property after Rave On Line Reviews

  • 2 of 5
What you should prepare yourself to see at Cranford on Miles:
• Upon arrival you will be greeted by the sight of an old golf cart covered by a rotting canvas cover.
• The exterior of the home is dirty as if it has not been cleaned in years.
• The screen door at the main entrance always hangs open as it does not latch well.
• What serves as the 4th bedroom is actually a stairway landing with a twin daybed. There is a folding screen that may be dragged into position to provide 2-3 feet of privacy.
• The landscaping is overgrown with vines creeping over decks and other shrubs. The rear porch egress is extremely narrow as the hedges have greatly overgrown the exit sidewalk on both sides.
• Cooking a hot breakfast is troublesome as the only non-stick pan is a large skillet that cannot be leveled on the stove due to its dented bottom.
• The king bed in the master bedroom has no skirt or cover and shows the exposed box spring at all times.
• The wooden steps down the hill to the very small beach area are broken and/or missing. They are practically unusable.
Once you get past the disappointment of the property itself, the Miles River view is beautiful.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this review. This is an historic house with an authentic Eastern Shore feel, which has been enjoyed by many travelers, and many return guests. And yes, the views are beautiful! I provide accurate photos and descriptions on the website for your preview. This is a vacation home, which we love to share with guests, but it is also used by our own family, and the golf cart belongs to my three boys. The beach steps, which were unknowingly damaged by a storm, were immediately repaired once I was notified. The kitchen, as many reviewers point out, is very well furnished. I have a complete set of Cuisinart pots and pans for use by my guests. We have guests who bring their dogs, and we discovered that the bed skirt was a magnet for dog hairs. Since moving a king size mattress to remove/clean the bed skirt after each visit was challenging, we made the executive decision to remove the bed skirt. As you will see the house is very clean. My many 5-star reviews serve as a testament that my house is lovingly cared for and that I put my guests first. Hopefully the multitude of positive feedback from prior guests lends credibility to the assertion that this review was written in bad faith by a guest who caused damage to both the house and its furnishings.

Lovely Getaway from DC

  • 5 of 5
My family (60-something parents, 30-something sister, husband, infant son and myself) stayed at Cranford on Miles for a weekend in August and found the location and home to be perfect. We loved eating dinner together on the screened-in porch overlooking the water, taking photographs on the dock as the sun rose, and the short drive to town for food and walking around. We really didn't feel the need to leave the house at all! The entire family agreed that the only thing missing was a few extra days to stay at the house.

Beautiful oasis

  • 5 of 5
Cranford on the Miles was an amazing get away and everything that we were hoping for. Lisa was wonderful to work with, and went out of her way to make sure that everything was exactly as we needed. The home is a beautiful home with lots of space. The outside space is wonderful and overlooks the Miles river complete with a dock and large lawn to enjoy. Town is about 1.5 miles away and has lots of cute little stores and restaurants and there is a nice community pool about a mile away. This was a great place to come for a week and to unplug and really get some rest and respite. We had a one-year-old with us and Lisa even had toys and safety materials (e.g., cabinet locks) which was very unexpected but appreciated. We highly recommend it!

Wedding Week at Cranford on the Miles

  • 5 of 5
We had the pleasure of staying at Cranford on the Miles for the week of our son's wedding in St. Michaels. We could not have chosen a better place!
The home was very spacious, well kept and had everything we could possibly need. Each morning was spent either on the dock or the screened porch. The view was so beautiful we chose to have the pre-wedding photos of the groom and groomsmen taken here.
Lisa, the owner, truly wants her guests to have a wonderful experience. She was very accommodating when we had a last minute need for our son's dog to stay with us for the first few days. She even had food and water bowls and an extra leash out when we arrived.
I highly recommend staying here and we hope to be able to come back!
