Fishing is possible in the pond. The pond has pickerel and large mouth bass in large numbers. No license is required for up to 14 years old. Licenses (as of 2005) MA residents (15 to 17 years) are $11.50, 18 to 65) are $27.50, non-resident vary from $23.50 (3 day license) to $37.50. The licenses are available from the Town Clerk in the Town Hall, or from any of the local tackle stores.
A car sticker for the Town Beaches (Cape Cod Bay and fresh water ponds) is available from the town. The car's registration and a completed form with the fee must be presented at the Towns DPW building (Open until 4:00 PM. on Saturday). The fee is $50 for one week. Pay parking ($12/day) is possible at four areas. (First Encounter, Campground, Cooks Brook Beaches, on Cape Cod Bay and Wiley Park on Great Pond) Cape Cod Bay offers excellent swimming at high tide. First Encounter beach (Rest rooms available) is .7 miles down Samoset Rd only one of many town beaches on Cape Cod Bay.
