Photos and Description of the New London vacation house rental 4 bedrooms, 2 1/2 baths, sleeps 7

This 1836 Cape was moved board by board to this site in 1979. The house was fully restored with real plaster walls, handmade lighting and hardware. There are three fireplaces, a bake oven and a six flue chimney. Since this initial restoration, three timber frame additions have been added. The house is now 2600 square feet. Of the four bedrooms, three of the bedrooms face the water. There are two master bedrooms, one on each floor. The upper master has a 14 ft. curved wooden ceiling with french doors which open to the ocean. The first floor master has its own bath and is ideal for someone elderly. The stone patio has shells grouted into the cement and is bordered on the ocean side by a restored stone hurricane wall. This house shares a pristine beach with an 1801 ninety foot lighthouse on one side and this house on the other. The lighthouse is not open to the public and the beach is used by my 86 year old neighbor and myself. THE HOUSE IS AVAILABLE WEEKLY, MONTHLY OR YEARLY.

Historic downtown New London has many interesting attractions and restaurants; twenty minutes away are the Mystic Seaport and two Indian Casinos. There are other interesting places to see including Old Lyme, Essex, Mystic and Stonington. Museums and shopping malls are close by. Having a very private beach to yourself along with a view of five lighthouse is a big plus for just wanting to hang around patio and chill out.

Additional information about rental rates

  • $2,500/week/$48,000/year
  • $2,500/week plus $100 utilities/week, $500 damage deposit/week and $1300 nonrefundable deposit/week to reserve the time you want. If there is an unforeseen event which forces you to cancel your week, the week can be rescheduled at another time. Sleeps six. House must be left the way it was found, ready for the next tenant. Additional cleaning is $80/hr.. The rent, utilities and damage deposit must be paid in full one month in advance.


    $1300 nonrefundable reservation deposit for each week.

    The entire rental amount must be paid at least one week before arrival.

The view from the house includes six lighthouses and Fishers Island with a continual stream of scenic ferries and boats of all kinds. The house is very special and the located 55 feet off Long Island Sound with very private beach. The original portion (circa 1836) of the house was moved to this location in 1979 and fully restored. The three additions are timber frame construction, reinforced for hurricanes. The patio and the accompanying view are second to none. Timing is everything: May through September are the months to rent. Personally, I think September is the best month; everyone is back in school and the water is delightful.

This house is not a 'summer beach' house; it is my home and I do not want it mistreated. Smoking, the use of the three fireplaces and candles are not allowed. Small parties (under 10) are allowed. I once had my house 'trashed' by an inconsiderate tenant who had a very large, out of control party.

The people who have rented this property have always had a wonderful experience. It is like being in Bermuda with the clean water, sandy beach and spectacular views.

This is an excellent location and we had a lovely time. House is full of antiques, not overly comfortable. We had a nice stay. The landlord showed up unannounced several times. Don't expect to get deposit money back. The house is not for people with disabilities.
