In need of a face lift

My family and I just returned from a week long stay in this home. I have to say, after my first walk through I was disappointed. The house had not been cleaned well, with filthy grey bath tubs and unsightly toilets that we ended up cleaning ourselves. The cleaning crew had not bothered to look at the pool which was filled with sand and pool toys - and the water was in desperate need of chlorine, yuck! The house was in major need of a DEEP cleaning and could also definitely use a face lift with some new paint (the roof top patio was covered with the stains of wild parties gone by), new kitchen supplies, new bed spreads without the stuffing hanging out, and so on. The ceiling fan on the porch was hanging from its wires and the smoke detector in the master bedroom was torn down & sitting on the dresser! Needless to say we called to have these things fixed ASAP.
Now, all that being said, it was not all bad. The house is really quite nice and the top floor community area is lovely. If I had been looking for a place to stay with a bunch of college friends, this would have been great. However, I was on a family vacation with guests ageing from 5 to 83, and this left much to be desired. Like I said, with some cosmetic repair and a good deep cleaning this house would be phenomenal, I simply suggest the owners give it a little TLC.
The best features of this house include the 2nd floor master bedroom which is incredibly spacious, has its own private porch, and has a gorgeous bathroom with jacuzzi tub and double-headed shower. Also, the laundry facilities are very nice and are on the 2nd floor where the majority of the bedrooms are located. The top floor is also very nice with a beautiful, enormous kitchen. The online pictures of the top floor do not do it justice. The other guest rooms are fine.
Another great feature of the house is the location, which is just one block from the beach. We easily walked from our front door to the beach in five minutes or less. The views from the top two decks are lovely, especially at sundown, when the ocean breeze feels crisp and cool. Also, we loved having the elevator to bring in our groceries and it was invaluable in getting my grandmother around the house.
Overall my family and I were disappointed in the upkeep of the house, but we still had a great time on our vacation. I would love to see this house after a few simple repairs and cosmetic fixes are made, but I don't feel we got what we paid for.
Owner's Response: It is our objective for our renters to have only a 100% positive experience at our home. We retain a professional property management firm and pool cleaning service to assure that happens. However, it is clear that despite these efforts, our objective was not met in this case. As soon as I learned of these issues from the review the following actions were taken immediately:
1. The property management company was contacted and they have confirmed that the lapse in the cleaning and post-cleaining inspection will not reoccur and efforts in both areas will be increased;
2. The alarm service company has been out to make all necessary repairs to that system;
3. The ceiling fan on the porch was repaired
4. The pool service has been advised of the issue and confirmed that they will increase the service level and inspections to avoid any repeat occurence
5. The grill has been replaced
6. The top deck will be inspected this coming weekend and cleaned
7. Bedding and kitchen supplies will be replaced as needed this weekend.
The property is deep cleaned at the beginning of each season. Unfortunately, there is not enough time between rentals to do deep cleaning in the middle of the season and enhanced work will be done on the regular cleaning effort to address this. Painting is scheduled every two years and will occur this fall. A review and full inventory check of kitchen utensils and bedding is also done at the beginning of each season, but it is apparant that some losses have occured during the season that will be corrected.
I ask that all renters contact me immediately if they encounter problems when arriving at the property and provide my contact information in the rental agreement for that purpose. Unfortunately, the guest in this case did not contact us about these issues and we only learned of them from the review posted after their rental ended. This deprived me of the opportunity to immediately respond to the issues and get them resolved so that they might have had a better experience at the house.
