RUSTIC HILLTOP COTTAGE W/ SPECTACULAR VIEWS

New Paltz Cottage Rental Photos and Description

1 BR, 1BA, Sleeps 2 (to 4)

(7/1/14 NOTE: About to list the property up for sale so haven't been renting just now but feel free to inquire-- including if interested in purchase-- as we might rent occasional near future dates while listed for sale). Perched high on a wooded hilltop and surrounded by a nature preserve (miles of hiking trails right out your back door!) this 2-story, 1BR, 1BA converted barn is a great country hideaway with spectacular 25+ mile views from every window. Fun, rustic barn-style, but with all the comfort and amenities.

Idyllic for a couple seeking a cozy respite from the city, a writer seeking sanctuary, or anyone looking to take advantage of the hiking, skiing, climbing (ice-climbing), biking, boating, birding, etc all just minutes away. 1hr 45mins from Manhattan, the cottage sits on 8 rural acres in the foothills of the Catskills, yet only short drives to the villages of New Paltz, Woodstock, The Gunks, The Mohonk preserve, Kingston, Poughkeepsie and more.

Queen Bed in upstairs loft with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the view! Clean, cozy, fully heated/insulated and fully equipped kitchen, etc.

(Ideal for a couple with occasional guests to sleep on aerobed downstairs).

Public Transportation: Convenient Train (Poughkeepsie) or Bus service (New Paltz) to NYC both within 15 minutes.

House is 15 mins drive NE of village of New Paltz; property abuts SW border of 'Shaupeneak Preserve'; There are freight trains in valley below within 1/4 mile of house so you will hear occasional train passing.

Just as advertised

  • 5 of 5
Amazing views. Charming cottage. Kinda feels like a treehouse. Loved it. Great hiking preserve right outside the door. Just as advertised. The freight trains in valley below might occasionally wrest you from a dream. But they have their own charm (at least to me). I was hoping to get out into the woods for a very "natural" getaway. Definitely got it.

Perfect writing retreat and getaway!

  • 5 of 5
I selected this cottage in order to get away from the city and find some quiet time to work on my dissertation (which is due shortly!). I was definitely looking for some peace and quiet and hoping for some natural beauty along the way. This cottage provided all of that. Greg was wonderfully flexible and informative in helping make arrangements in a relatively short time frame. The photos where accurate and I was delighted to find that the cottage was not only well depicted, clean and organized, but even more charming when I arrived in person. It really felt away, even though it was a relatively short drive from NYC. The property abuts a park and hiking and running were steps away which was a huge bonus for me. In addition, the property is very close to New Paltz which has a great coffee shop and some nice restaurants. I would happily recommend this cottage to anyone!

Great stay

  • 4 of 5
We stayed here for two nights this winter and it was a lovely stay. The view from the property which can be seen from the kitchen, living room and bedroom was completely worth it. There are two other houses close by, which was a little disappointing as we drove up, but it was absolutely no bother. The way the house is situated, you don't feel like there's anyone around for miles.

The kitchen is well stocked with cookware but relatively small. My girlfriend and I like to cook together and while the kitchen had everything we needed, it was a bit cramped. I would also recommend bringing stereo or sound system of some sort - I was playing my iPod through the TV.

beautiful view, charming cottage

  • 5 of 5
We had a great week in the cottage. The place was clean, well-maintained, charming, beautiful view... just what we were looking for. The owner was a pleasure to deal with. We'd definitely stay again. Train passes by several times a day down the hill, which took a bit of getting used to, but otherwise perfect.

spring break 2012

  • 5 of 5
Greg's cottage is exactly what we were looking for. We recommend its comfort, ease of care, location. The proximity of the freight train may turn some off, but for us it was a small inconvenience in contrast with the exceptional vista, the stunning sun rises and the forestry location. It is close to many hiking trails and sight seeing locations. It is a great place to come visit a college student for Spring break as we did. Close enough and yet far enough from Vassar, Bard, SUNY New Paltz. Everything was exactly as shown on the pictures of this web site except that the hammock was missing. Make sure it is repaired so you can actually enjoy the siesta's of which the pictures make you dream.
One thing that we enjoyed particularly is the absence of guest book and the absolute unobtrusiveness of the owners. Thank you.
