PARADISE FOUND: TROUTSONG STEALS YOUR HEART, NOT YOUR WALLET

Boone Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath

Troutsong cabin sits just above Howard's Creek and is nestled in a park-like environment, secluded and private, yet only 10 minutes to a supermarket, theaters and restaurants in Boone. You can spend days exploring and playing in the creek, which makes a bend right above the porch where you can sit in the big yellow swing and cast your cares away. Fly fish? You found paradise. This is a place so sweet that even the trout seem to be singing its praises!

Raise the bedroom windows and you will fall asleep to the melody of Howard's Creek. We left this two-bedroom cabin furnished as it was when we lived here in hopes that it will feel like home to you: there's even a piano. The fully stocked kitchen also overlooks the creek. The kitchen, dining area, living room are open which makes downstairs one large open area with sliding glass doors on the creekside porch. When it's cool or cold, there's a great woodstove but the house can be fully heated by the Monitor heater. The master bedroom has a king bed; the second bedroom has twin beds and a loft bed with desk/play area below. Formerly our daughter's room, we have left some dolls and toys if you have young ones. We use flannel sheets in the cooler months, cotton in the summer. We have no air-conditioning because none is needed! There are ceiling fans in the bedrooms just in case but most summers the temperature at this creekside cabin never gets above 72 degrees.

We also welcome your dog here at Troutsong but we do charge a small fee. Having traveled with our two standard poodles we appreciate homeowners who rent to clients who like to vacation with their dog. Thanks for looking at our house.

Guestbook comments from the owner
Your cabin is warm, eclectic and unique. A perfect moutnain getaway with

everything you could need or want! Our children loved it as much as we did and

are already asking when we can come back! They all took turns on the piano and

raced to the swing every day.

Jon and I are former journalists who took a career change and moved back to where my heart has always been, here in the mountains of North Carolina.

Beth McLeod purchased this cabin in 1998

We bought this cabin on 3 acres for ourselves! But when we moved full-time in 2002 we realized it was too small, so we built a 'round house' on the ridge behind the house and turned our former home into Troutsong. We believed that this was a special place and wanted to share it with others. The High Country of North Carolina is a wonderful place to live in all four seasons.

We love listening to the creek and sitting on the porch swing. Our daughter and our standard poodles love to play in the creek. Many nights we sat on the bench down by the creek, watched them play and enjoyed 'the gloaming,' as evening settled into our tranquil haven. I will never forget the way the former owner cried when we signed the papers to finalize the deal to buy this property in 1998. It is a place you just hate to leave!

Peaceful!

  • 5 of 5
My family had such a wonderful stay at Troutsong! We felt tucked away in the woods...secluded and peaceful. Yet, we were only 10 minutes to the center of town! There are many wonderful activities to enjoy in the area (hiking, Tweetsie Railroad, gem mining), yet we spent several of our days just relaxing at the cabin. The porch swing overlooking the creek is perfection. The home included many nice touches that my daughters enjoyed (ages 7 and 9) including a piano, books, games, dolls, and a loft bed. The owners were wonderful to work with...quick to respond to any needs/changes/questions, yet gave us plenty of privacy. Highly recommended!!

Perfect mountain vacation place

  • 5 of 5
Stayed another summer at Troutsong. A beautiful, relaxing place that one hates to leave. Close to town but isolated enough to enjoy all the peace and tranqulity that a mountain place should be. Stayed many times, and hope to be back again many more. Owners are wonderful people, easy to deal with and always available if any problem arises. Sitting on the porch and just watching and listening to the creek below takes away all one's worries. We really love it there!

Fabulous Vacation Spot!

  • 5 of 5
My family spent several days at this fabulous cabin in late December 2012. The cabin was incredibly neat, clean, and comfortable, and the hosts were very accommodating. Would highly recommend this property!

Great House, beautiful location

  • 5 of 5
What a great getaway! We wanted to head down to do some hiking around Boone to celebrate my sons achievement of all 'A' honor role and graduation from elementary school. We found Troutsong and are extremely happy we did. The house sits right above a serene stream (Howards Creek) and is fully equipped with everything but groceries. We arrived to find the house cleaned and ready for us and we settled in and relaxed for the weekend. The house has a great selection of board games, videos and music. We all got a good family cry (a good cry) session watching the video "Hachi: A Dog's Tale" a great movie but we were all in tears and it was a great way to spend a rainy morning. The music offered help set a nice mood as well. The house is pet friendly and that was a big plus for us because we were able to bring our dog along as well, instead of a kennel! I would recommend Troutsong in an instant to anyone looking for a very private cozy retreat that is still within a few minutes of shopping and downtown Boone. Thank you Beth for offering up such a wonderful place and we look forward to coming back (soon)!

A little piece of heaven

  • 5 of 5
Troutsong was a very pleasant surprise. It is a very homey and tranquil place. If you are looking for a nice place to stay with privacy and a wonderful rushing trout stream where you can take your fur babies, this is the place. The house was nicely furnished and felt like a home. The kids loved the access to the water plus we were lucky enough to still have snow on the ground which the kids and dogs loved. We would definitely like to come back to Troutsong in the future. This was my husband's first trip to the mountains and he loved all of it. Our weekend away was way too short. This place was a little piece of home away from home. Thank you Beth, John and Gracie for sharing your home with us, we had a great time!

Owner's Response: It is always wonderful to step into Troutsong when our guests have left and see what great shape they live it in! To me this means they have loved it and treated it with great care. Thanks to our super guests for helping us continue to share Troutsong with other families!

Perfect - we loved it

  • 5 of 5
My family went to Troutsong for an extended weekend getaway and were pleased in every way. It is so peaceful, comfortable, inviting and fun. We have made many trips to this area and stayed at different places and this one tops them all for us. I was totally going to book a week for this summer for our return but I see it's already booked, which doesn't surprise me. It's like a home away from home. The grounds are beautiful. Our nine year old son enjoyed the creek - he's a river guy and couldn't have been any happier.

Owner's Response: Warmer spring temperatures are on the way while we watch last week's big snowfall disappear! We love it when people find Troutsong and then fall in love with it as we did when we bought it back in 1998. Even though the summer calendar is filling up keep us in mind for a long weekend in September, October or beyond!
