Troutsong cabin sits just above Howard's Creek and is nestled in a park-like environment, secluded and private, yet only 10 minutes to a supermarket, theaters and restaurants in Boone. You can spend days exploring and playing in the creek, which makes a bend right above the porch where you can sit in the big yellow swing and cast your cares away. Fly fish? You found paradise. This is a place so sweet that even the trout seem to be singing its praises!
Raise the bedroom windows and you will fall asleep to the melody of Howard's Creek. We left this two-bedroom cabin furnished as it was when we lived here in hopes that it will feel like home to you: there's even a piano. The fully stocked kitchen also overlooks the creek. The kitchen, dining area, living room are open which makes downstairs one large open area with sliding glass doors on the creekside porch. When it's cool or cold, there's a great woodstove but the house can be fully heated by the Monitor heater. The master bedroom has a king bed; the second bedroom has twin beds and a loft bed with desk/play area below. Formerly our daughter's room, we have left some dolls and toys if you have young ones. We use flannel sheets in the cooler months, cotton in the summer. We have no air-conditioning because none is needed! There are ceiling fans in the bedrooms just in case but most summers the temperature at this creekside cabin never gets above 72 degrees.
We also welcome your dog here at Troutsong but we do charge a small fee. Having traveled with our two standard poodles we appreciate homeowners who rent to clients who like to vacation with their dog. Thanks for looking at our house.
Your cabin is warm, eclectic and unique. A perfect moutnain getaway with
everything you could need or want! Our children loved it as much as we did and
are already asking when we can come back! They all took turns on the piano and
raced to the swing every day.
Jon and I are former journalists who took a career change and moved back to where my heart has always been, here in the mountains of North Carolina.
We bought this cabin on 3 acres for ourselves! But when we moved full-time in 2002 we realized it was too small, so we built a 'round house' on the ridge behind the house and turned our former home into Troutsong. We believed that this was a special place and wanted to share it with others. The High Country of North Carolina is a wonderful place to live in all four seasons.
We love listening to the creek and sitting on the porch swing. Our daughter and our standard poodles love to play in the creek. Many nights we sat on the bench down by the creek, watched them play and enjoyed 'the gloaming,' as evening settled into our tranquil haven. I will never forget the way the former owner cried when we signed the papers to finalize the deal to buy this property in 1998. It is a place you just hate to leave!
