Troutsong cabin sits just above Howard's Creek and is nestled in a park-like environment, secluded and private, yet only 10 minutes to a supermarket, theaters and restaurants in Boone. You can spend days exploring and playing in the creek, which makes a bend right above the porch where you can sit in the big yellow swing and cast your cares away. Fly fish? You found paradise. This is a place so sweet that even the trout seem to be singing its praises!
Raise the bedroom windows and you will fall asleep to the melody of Howard's Creek. We left this two-bedroom cabin furnished as it was when we lived here in hopes that it will feel like home to you: there's even a piano. The fully stocked kitchen also overlooks the creek. The kitchen, dining area, living room are open which makes downstairs one large open area with sliding glass doors on the creekside porch. When it's cool or cold, there's a great woodstove but the house can be fully heated by the Monitor heater. The master bedroom has a king bed; the second bedroom has twin beds and a loft bed with desk/play area below. Formerly our daughter's room, we have left some dolls and toys if you have young ones. We use flannel sheets in the cooler months, cotton in the summer. We have no air-conditioning because none is needed! There are ceiling fans in the bedrooms just in case but most summers the temperature at this creekside cabin never gets above 72 degrees.
We also welcome your dog here at Troutsong but we do charge a small fee. Having traveled with our two standard poodles we appreciate homeowners who rent to clients who like to vacation with their dog. Thanks for looking at our house.
Jon and I are former journalists who took a career change and moved back to where my heart has always been, here in the mountains of North Carolina.
Beth McLeod purchased this cabin in 1998
We bought this cabin on 3 acres for ourselves! But when we moved full-time in 2002 we realized it was too small, so we built a 'round house' on the ridge behind the house and turned our former home into Troutsong. We believed that this was a special place and wanted to share it with others. The High Country of North Carolina is a wonderful place to live in all four seasons.
We love listening to the creek and sitting on the porch swing. Our daughter and our standard poodles love to play in the creek. Many nights we sat on the bench down by the creek, watched them play and enjoyed 'the gloaming,' as evening settled into our tranquil haven. I will never forget the way the former owner cried when we signed the papers to finalize the deal to buy this property in 1998. It is a place you just hate to leave!
Your cabin is warm, eclectic and unique. A perfect moutnain getaway with
everything you could need or want! Our children loved it as much as we did and
are already asking when we can come back! They all took turns on the piano and
raced to the swing every day.
The home had a comfortable relaxed feel. It was like I returned to my childhood home. I expected to see my Mom cooking the the kitchen. My husband and I brought our dog and she loved the space outside, the creek. It was far enough away from town that you felt like you had your own privite oasis but close enough to get to town quickly. We visited Boone, Linville Falls, Beach Mountian West Jefferson, which had an Antique show. But have the stream and the swing they were the best! We hope to come back soon. We absolutely love Troutsong! It is in the most perfect location! The musical waters are just outside the front windows. It sings you into relaxation. The cabin is all it's said to be & more. The owners are so nice. They answer any questions you might have ASAP. There are many wonderful places to visit in the area, including The Blowing Rock & Grandfather Mtn. We recommend Woodlands BBQ as well. In all our yrs vacationing in the Mtns, Troutsong was the 1st place we have stayed where we were perfectly content to actually spend time at our cabin. Leave all your cares behind when you come to Troutsong. I promise you will want to come back to this amazing place, I know we do!
We have not visited Boone in years. A relative of mine had stayed at Troutsong last year and highly recommended it. When arriving there, we walked into music playing and just a welcome atmosphere there. My family was very pleased. My husband and son enjoyed the trout stream. We were very near to everything we needed but the privacy of the cabin was awesome. I also highly recommend this cabin. We do plan to return.
My family had such a wonderful stay at Troutsong! We felt tucked away in the woods...secluded and peaceful. Yet, we were only 10 minutes to the center of town! There are many wonderful activities to enjoy in the area (hiking, Tweetsie Railroad, gem mining), yet we spent several of our days just relaxing at the cabin. The porch swing overlooking the creek is perfection. The home included many nice touches that my daughters enjoyed (ages 7 and 9) including a piano, books, games, dolls, and a loft bed. The owners were wonderful to work with...quick to respond to any needs/changes/questions, yet gave us plenty of privacy. Highly recommended!!
Stayed another summer at Troutsong. A beautiful, relaxing place that one hates to leave. Close to town but isolated enough to enjoy all the peace and tranqulity that a mountain place should be. Stayed many times, and hope to be back again many more. Owners are wonderful people, easy to deal with and always available if any problem arises. Sitting on the porch and just watching and listening to the creek below takes away all one's worries. We really love it there!
My family spent several days at this fabulous cabin in late December 2012. The cabin was incredibly neat, clean, and comfortable, and the hosts were very accommodating. Would highly recommend this property!
