About Emili Fonteneau

Peter and I discovered this cottage nestled in the woods in 2002. We learned that it was built by the last Lightkeeper ever stationed at the St Augustine Lighthouse. We loved the end of the road privacy and living in the shadow of the Lighthouse seems unbelievably romatic. Absolutely convinced that if peace on earth could be found we had found it. We bought it up and moved across the country to restore her and settle down to quiet small town living. We still enjoy many months of the year in St Augustine but also spend part of the year in California - earning a living. So until we retire once and for all we are happy to share our special cottage with visitors from all walks of life and from all over the world. The experience has been wonderful and we hope to share it with you! Peace on earth!

What makes this cottage unique

We really enjoy living in the shadow of the Lighthouse. The list of activities at the Lighthouse and Museum is endless. Everything from Dark of the Moon tours to Stanley Steamer gatherings. We are Founding Light Members of the Lighthouse and Museum and our guests at the cottage are provided a free passes to enjoy the Lighthouse and Museum as our guest. We also enjoy and really take advantage of the Anastasia State Park with the Salt Run Lagoon, and the new Amphitheater. Our favorite beach is just a short walk along the Lagoon to the end where the sand dunes lead to the beach. The scenery, and bird life is world class, and the fishing is good too! We also enjoy a a walk to the Ancient City over the Bridge of Lions in the evenings. All in all the living is easy and good in St Augustine.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Emili,

I just wanted to say thank you! We had a wonderful time in St. Augustine and in your (and Jill’s) cottage. It was so clean and comfortable and was the perfect place for us. While we were there we:

· Went to the beach (huge beaches!)

· Loved Stuart’s Market grocery store (fresh okra, great hot sauce and excellent hand made sausage)

· Enjoyed Mango Mangos at the beach

· Had fun in town and at the fort

· Enjoyed the alligator farm and the zip line

· The spectacular view from the lighthouse!!

· And enjoyed the sound of Dierks Bentley who was giving a concert the night we arrived at the amphitheater….faint but could hear.

It was really wonderful and the perfect way to start our spring break. We also discovered Marineland just down the road and had a wonderful dolphin experience (or two).

Thank you so much!!!

A Special Space

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at your cottage. It was perfect!

There was something special about the space you created and a great location that made our visit one we all will remember for a long time.

We enjoyed the peace and calm of your cottage after a day wandering, and it was the perfect place for us to visit and reminisce.

Thank you for sharing your very special cottage with us

We hope to visit again!

Great Geat Away Cottage

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at Junie's for a week and had a wonderful experience. Emili was very gracious in our booking experience and offered to help in anyway possible. Plenty of neighborhood and St. Augustine activities brochures at the cottage. The cottage was warm and quite charming and comfortable, stocked with everything you would need, and plenty of room. The neighbor and surroundings were charming with the Lighthouse just around the corner. The grounds were delightfully tropical and enchanting. I would highly recommend staying @ the cottage and I would go back anytime.

Not Pleased

  • 1 of 5

The property definitely wasn't as it was portrayed to be. It was not clear that there were two units on the property with one unit above the other. The cottage was very musty smelling with carpet and bedding damp feeling. The renters above us were so noisy late into the night and early in the morning, making it difficult for us to relax and enjoy. The pass to the lighthouse was no longer available. The area that the cottage was in was not very nice. Many of the homes within the neighborhood were very run down, had old run down cars parked outside and blankets in the windows for curtains. I would not rent this unit again in the future.

Owner's Response: Theresa, I am deeply sorry for your suffering. I don't think it is my place. My other guests return and smile and rejoice. I wish the same for you someday. (not to return but to smile)

Our first anniversary

My husband and I had a great time with our dogs at Junie's Cottage. Quiet and private. After our adventurous day, we were able to relax in the nice shaded yard with the dogs. It is in a great location. We would love to stay here again.

Adorable Cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in St.Augustine! This cottage was in a great location because it was a short ride to all the sites. It was right over the Bridge of Lions which is close to the Historic District (5 minute ride). Cottage was cozy and everything was so clean. Thank you for the lighthouse/museum passes too! Can't wait to visit St.Augustine again.
