Experience a vacation paradise while enjoying Trout Lake's spectacular views from the waterfront cedar hot-tub, exploring the natural beauty of the 1,600-acre state forest surrounding the lake, swimming, paddling, or cruising the lake in a motorboat. Enjoy fishing for rainbow or lake trout, large-mouth or small-mouth bass, perch, or rock bass.

There is a safe, sandy swimming area, raft to swim out to, waterfront hot tub, 17' pontoon boat with 8 hp motor (12' x 7' deck with 4 chairs,1 bench), Old Town canoe, 2 kayaks, barbecue grill, telephone, and satellite TV/DVD, high speed wireless internet.

Great day trips include visits to St. Lawrence University (about 20 minutes), Alexandria Bay and Clayton in the Thousand Islands (about 60 minutes).

St. Lawrence River (about 45 minutes) with boat tours of Thousand Islands, Bolt Castle, Singer Castle; Lake Placid (Olympic village and home of White Face Mountain ski resort) in the Adirondacks (about 90 minutes).

Guests must provide their own sheets and towels, unless they make arrangements for us to provide sheets and/or towels from a local linen supply.

Pets are allowed--there is a pet fee of $25 per day per pet.

To say that my expectations were exceeded would be an understatement...

I had heard from friends about the properties owned by White Pillars Lodging --- about their attention to detail, about the serenity of Trout Lake, and the extra amenities that set them apart from the rest.

Highlights:

(1) Location, location, location. I love large cities, and going places, and doing things, but Trout Lake is wonderfully secluded. It's largely surrounded by a state park which provided the perfect environment to allow our little young family to reconnect and recharge before getting back to the hustle-and-bustle of everyday life. What a joy!

(2) Don't underestimate the wood-fed sauna -- so relaxing and fun. When I saw photos I thought it would never be used..."not for us, not my thing." But we loved it.

(3) Having a motor boat makes a huge difference! When we booked the place, it was a "nice-to-have." But in coming years, it's a must!

(4) Perfect swimming for the kids --- The lack of a true beach was an initial concern upon renting, but the owner ensured us that this property would meet our needs and indeed it did!! The shallow sandy waters and the raft met all the swimming and safety needs of our three little kids (5,3,1) and us adults too!.

(5) The extra large windows remained opened the entire stay. The sounds of loons met us at dawn, and the gentle breeze blowing through the cabin was just perfect! Perfect!

(6) About five miles away there's a little general store, with ice cream! For a fun, special night, quick getaway.

(7) The kayaks and canoes were a huge hit with the kids. Trout Lake is very calm and perfect for young kids.

(8) There are some fun (and short) hiking trails nearby that are perfect for little kids. Pack a lunch. It will be perfect.

I cannot more highly recommend this property (or any from White Pillars Lodging.) We'll be back for sure!

A Hidden Jewel in the North Country

My family and I live near NYC and come up to Canton NY every year. We always stay at the B&B with anticipation of staying somewhere that feels like a luxuary vacation. Needless to say there was NEVER any reason to change the accomodations however one day we deceided to check out the lakefront cottage. Well that was it, we needed to make a reservation for the following year. We stayed at the cottage and I have to say that pictures dont do it justice. It is so comfortable and has everything you need to have whatever kind of vacation you're looking for. Whether its relaxing, fishing, boating, or taking a day trip to Canada, its all there. The lake is so beautiful and clean. My husband and I went fishing with one of the boats thats provided and actually caught fish...now that part was truly amazing! We just made our reservations for next year and can't wait to go back. If there should be anything you need, the owners are always available. They are a part of what makes staying here so special. Its still so hard to believe that in the middle of "nowhere" there is this pristine beautiful lake that offers a perfect get away. My family and I are grateful that we found this place and hope others will have the opportunity to experiance it as well.

Very Close to perfect vacation

So.... we stayed at Lakeside Camp for one week and we absolutely loved our stay and would like to go back again...there were a few minor issues when we arrived like the DVD player didnt work great and one of the benches in the hot tub was loose and the owner came over within a half hour to repair the bench and give us a brand new DVD player ...with that he also gave us a brand new movie for our kids to watch and they loved it...(thats just super nice.) the house was very well equipped with utensils for cooking and had all newer appliances. the bathroom was very clean as was the kitchen. there were some cobwebs here and there but this is the woods...if you cant handle bugs and few cobwebs this might not be for you...if you love a clean clear lake with little motor boat traffic this is a great choice. there arent any external distractions here... this lake is remote and promotes good quality time as a family...my kids fished and swam basically all day...the owners also offered us use of their private sandy beach which was very nice but not necessary for us b/c the entry to the lake was very gradual and sandy where we were as well. he also let us borrow one of his personal kayaks because it was a very steady one great for the kids to kayak in without worry of tipping...again very nice you just dont find this in people that you rent from...and i have rented in alot of places across the country and homes that cost almost double what this one did...so this was a great time!!! would come back in a heartbeat. we did eat at one restaurant in canton while here two times called The Club. Good ez food and a big lawnn for the kids to run around on while waiting for dinner to be served...

Perfect Fall Getaway!

This cabin is great. It totally exceeds our expectations. You have a beautiful cabin and layout with all the comforts of home and more including TV, VCR, sterio, wood stove, hot tub and washer/dryer. Where else can you go and have all of this and not pay an arm and a leg for all of these extras? The owners do everything they can to accommodate your vacation and make it a great experience. The view from the cabin is breathtaking. We loved using the motorboat and tour around the lake and see all the beauty this area holds. This was our fourth time renting from the owners and we anticipate many more to come.

A Place Next to Heaven

Lakeside Cottage, Trout Lake, is a place next to heaven! The cabin is perfect beyond belief re ambiance & amenities if atmosphere & comfort are important to you. If you are into boating, it is all there from Boston Whaler with 6.6.HP motor, 2 kayaks, & flat bottom canoe. If fishing is your thing, the bass are waiting for you in number, catch, & size. We caught & released 28 in 4 days that we fished, 2-3 people, plus 6 to 10 more jumped off the line boat side, 20", 18 ", 17" 15", & the rest mostly 10-12". There are trout too near the shore & in the middle of the lake which evaded our catch in the few hours we gave to their pursuit. Even heaven can be improved. You must bring bottled water to drink (6 + gallons for a week). And, a sailboat would be great fun.
