Francesco grew up in Sicily, studied at the Nautical Institute in Catania where he bacame a Captain for any tonnage vessel in any waters in the world. Suzanne grew up in Squantum, MA (named for Squanto the native American Indian who lived in the area), a seaside suburb south of Boston. She gaduated from Boston College with a BS in Nursing. The two met while they were working on Cruise Ships in the Caribbean, arriving on the same day. Three years later they married, but stayed on the Ships two years more. They have two grown children, a girl, Marguerite, and a boy, Alessandro. Their primary home is in Boston, but they winter on the West coast of Puerto Rico in the Rincon area. Many summer weeks are spent in their beloved home on the coast of Maine... through the woods from the Guesthouse. Travel is a passion and they travel home to Italy at least once a year. Twice a year they do Medical Missions in the Dominican Republic. They remain very much in love after almost 35 years of marriage.
You won't find a nicer house or a more perfect spot for a vacation than the Gueshouse. We have never had a disappointed guest, and many, many repeat travelers. We would love to share our idyllic spot in midcoast Maine with you!
Suzanne's grandfather, Joe Will, was an avid sailor, as was her mother, Louise Will. Her grandmother, Gertrude and her Uncle James completed the ocean loving family. They often vacationed in Friendship, Maine where they had wonderful friends. Joe would buy older Friendship Sloops, sail them home, restore them and build a cabin aft and sell them in the Boston area. The Friendship area is stunning, and has a nostalgic attraction for both Suzanne and Francesco. We would love to have you visit.
You will be 'hooked', too!
Whether you take one of the 5 kayaks, or the rowboat out for a tour, you will fall in love with this part of the coast. The Guesthouse is lovely with every comfort thought of and the peace and tranquility that one needs on vacation. You will relax and unwind and return renewed. So much to see and do and eat and experience at your fingertips, but sometimes the best and only thing you want to do is sit on the deck and revel in the peacefulness. You decide, you have found it all at the Guesthouse.
Beautiful Home. Exceptional view. Terrific location. We had a wonderful time laying by the water reading, thinking about nothing and everything, kayaking to several islands. Enjoyed meeting the rare domestic animals at Kelmscott Farms in Lincolnville, went on a magical sail with Capt. Steve on the Friendship Sloop, Surprise, basked in the sun at Popham Beach...one of the best in New England, played with the rocks and starfish at Camden Hill State Park and walked around Camden - nice bookstore, hiked around Monhegan Island- watched a white baby seal frolick- the cinnamon ice cream was a tasty treat. Which brings us to dining- Pine Cone Cafe- very good food and atmosphere, and Peter Ott's in Camden- the best pesto and pasta primavera and the raspberry pie was a slice of heaven. Needless to say, this vacation goes down as one of the best. Thank you.
Against my better judgement, I am writing a review. I mean really, why would I want the whole world to know what a great place this is. What if they're all booked up next time we want to come?
We are a family of four, and each member wants to come back. Enough said?
I really cannot say enough wonderful things about the home, and our wonderful hosts. We were fortunate that they were in the area, and they graciously submitted to our multitude of questions. Suzanne also was always quick to respond to any email queries.
Our fishing luck was not too stellar, but boy, did we find some great lobster deals. I mean, really, lobster that's cheaper than a Whopper, how great is that?
We were able to find tons of fresh mussels right at the dock, but never got a clear reading from the Maine Fisheries if they were safe to eat. No worries, tons of places to go in the local area for fresh seafood.
OK, I'm a dude, but even I was floored at how wonderfully decorated the house was. Everything we needed was there.
OK so, can you please keep this a secret?
This is our second year staying at the Guest House. If you want privacy, quiet, water and woods, then the Guest House is a perfect retreat for your vacation. Here you will find woods on 3 sides and a few yards away from the front door the cove with a beautiful deck to sit, relax & enjoy the water close up. Fish from the dock, take out one of the furnished kayaks or canoe, have your morning coffee or just do nothing. The deck off the house will offer you a higher view of the cove, the occasional lobster boat making its rounds, a table to enjoy your meals and seating to do your contemplating. Suzanne has done a wonderful job furnishing the Guest House with period furniture that makes you feel welcome and comfortable. The kitchen is furnished with all you need to make your meals, including a lobster pot (lobster $3.75 lb. at Creamers). The living area is the perfect place to sit, relax, read and view the outdoors through the sliding glass doors. The bedroom makes you feel warm and cozy. We are not into the t-shirt shops or tourist traps and have found for enjoyment: Sweetgrass winery, Thomaston Cafe, the state Pen store for hand-made souveniers, Bet's fish shack, and pizza at the local pizza shop in Friendship. Another great stop is the Audubon Camp where they have several hiking trails, some along the water and boat dock. We had the pleasure of meeting Suzanne and Francesco, the owners. They were warm and gracious and made us feel very welcome. We very much recommend the Guest House for your next vacation to Maine coast.
Dan and Kathy
Dan and I want to thank you and Francesco for sharing your lovely guesthouse. We had a wonderful time...one of our best vacations ever. The weather was pretty much perfect. The view is absolutely beautiful and there was nothing more we could have asked for. You have thought of everything as far as the accomodations are concerned. Although we were not able to meet in person, your emails portray a warm and gracious person.....and that is reflected in the care and thoughtfulness you have put into making the guesthouse so comfortable.
We wanted to stay longer and hope to make it back to the area again.
Again, thank you. We will cherish the lovely memories of this vacation.
We had a fantastic, relaxing week which more than lived up to our expectations and, unfortunately, passed all too quickly.
The guesthouse was really comfortable and very well-equipped and it was very tempting to spend the whole week just admiring the wonderful view from the deck. However, we did manage to tear ourselves away each day and explore the inlets in the kayaks provided. The highlight has to be paddling out to the rocks to see the seals, basking in the sunshine. There are many possibilities for trips further afield but the location itself is so peaceful and stunning that it is very difficult to leave.
Suzanne and Francesco were extremely helpful both before and during our stay.
We were very sad to bid farewell but we certainly hope to return one day. The Guesthouse is a perfect location for a memorable vacation.
The photos of this house really do not do it justice. When my family and i , pulled onto the driveway, we was totally blown away by its beauty. The house is a perfect size, for a family of 4 to 6.very clean ,and well equipped. The views from the home, are breath taking, and at low tides you will see seals out on the islands. We had good times kayaking, around the islands, watching the lobster Boats the the morning pull their traps.or taking the Row boat out fishing.you feel a million miles from anyone, yet everything you need and want to see, if very close at hand.Checkout Moodys for Breakfast lunch or dinner close by on route 1.And just up in Warren small place at the side of the road called Maine-ly poultry.Fantastic homemade chicken pie's.Of course all the Lobster you can eat, is from any of the nearby fishing Towns, right out the Boats.I could keep going, from the house, to everything else, it was a trip to remember for sure.Enjoy your stay.
We have just a had a very enjoyable and all too short week staying at the Guesthouse.
Although we knew there were plenty of other things to do and see in the vicinity, we did not stray far from the house and the water. It was good fun kayaking and rowing in the cove, and swimming off the impressive dock.
Certainly suited our family perfectly - which includes two teenage sons. It is private and quiet, but not isolated. There is a tremendous diner - Moody's - right on the junction of Route 1 and other useful facilities in nearby Waldoboro The house is impeccably presented and furnished, and the views from the deck are superb. Everything was as described and lived up to expectations. Loads of books to read, plenty of films and a perfect place to relax.
The owners were extremely friendly. Correspondence before the trip was both helpful and welcoming and this approach was maintained during and after our trip.
Would certainly recommend this house to others - without hesitation.
Mid-coast Maine is full of exciting things to do. We are in a wonderfully interesting bay with multiple islands & miles & miles of rugged coastline. Take the rowboat over to Haystack Is. and let the kids hunt for real arrowheads (I've found two!) or explore the immediate coast in the kayaks and stop for lunch on Eagle Is. where you will be carefully watched by a nesting pair. Aside from the obvious boating, swimming, bird watching & fishing that you can do right out in front of the guest house, there are puffin & seal watches, deep sea fishing & sailing charters all available close by. Take a day trip (or longer) to the artist colony of Monhegan Island where the Wyeth family has painted for generations or see the famed Olsen house in neighboring Cushing.
Don't forget the fabulous and famous lobster and steamer dinners available in wonderful restaurants all throughout the area.
Other Activities: kayaking, hiking, exploring, museums, fine and/or rustic dining, Fall foliage, apple picking, hayrides
