Guestbook comments from the owner

This is an adorable cottage. My family of 6 were very confortable. We rode to the beach and hung out inside during the rainy days and we weren't cramped for space. Top 3 Things: Location & good rates, amenities, and privacy. Don't miss: Sunset on Lake Michigan.

My Extended Stay at Redbird Cottage

  • 5 of 5
I recently relocated to the Muskegon area from Indianapolis, In. During the time it took for me to start my new job here and look for a house to purchase I stayed in the Redbird Cottage for the months of March and April 2013. Moving in was a breeze, the cottage was very well maintained with all of the amenities that I could possibly need and VERY, VERY clean. Jane S was fantastic to work with and made the entire process very easy for me. She offered me some insight to the neighborhood and Muskegon area. The neighbors were very pleasant and welcoming. Everyone had a smile, a wave or a "hello" at each encounter. The cottage was very quiet at night and I enjoyed many restful evenings. The high speed internet worked very well and kept me connected to family via email as well as allowing me to dive right in to work at night for my new position.
My family came to stay with me for a week during their spring break in April. They really enjoyed the beach that was just a couple of blocks away. I wish it could have been a little warmer so we really could have taken advantage of the setting. We played board games (Yatzee was their favorite) and watched a couple of the movies that were provided at the cottage.
I would recommend the Redbird cottage for anyone that would like a week away to unwind in a quiet comfortable setting, or to anyone that had a longer stay similar to my relocation. The cottage provided me all the comforts of my home as I truly enjoyed my stay.

Great family vacation spot!

  • 5 of 5
Redbird Cottage was comfortable, charming and clean! We have four daughters, ages 8-13 who had plenty to keep them busy. We kayaked, rode bikes around the neighborhood and over to the beach. We enjoyed dinner and drinks at "The Deck" and "Dockers", both local places on the water. We also visited the impressive Muskegon Farmer's Market and the USS Silversides Submarine and Museum. The girls took sailing lessons at the Muskegon Yacht Club for the week, too, only 2 blocks away. What a great stay. The cottage was just like the photos and in excellent condition. We appreciated the new bike rack the owner installed the week before we arrived! One week wasn't long enough for this vacation location!

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed the newly added kayaks and bike rack. Neighbors were entertained seeing the children carrying the kayaks to Muskegon Lake, 1 block at the end of the street. Thanks so much.

Redbird a treasure!

  • 5 of 5
This is our second visit to Bluffton Harbor Cottages, and it certainly will not be our last. This cottage is quaint yet stylish, cozy and bright. The owner can't seem to do enough to make your stay comfortable... she's truly thought of every little thing! (She even offers kayaks and lifejackets for your use!) She has a keen eye for interior design, which makes a stay here even more delightful.

The cottage is nestled in a congenial neighborhood, a 5-minute walk to magnificent Pere Marquette Beach. The neighbors are so friendly; always smiling, occasionally stopping to chat with us as we relaxed on the front porch in the evening.

I have to say, I saw the one negative review on this site - and I have NO what they were talking about. Everything is squeaky clean and in excellent working order. The outdoor picnic area has a picnic table, like-new gas grill, and fire pit. The kitchen has every kid of dish and appliance imaginable (there's even an electric pancake griddle!), all in excellent condition. The furniture and beds are tidy and comfortable; the linens fluffy and clean.

Jane, the owner, truly cares that you have fun on your getaway at Redbird... She goes out of her way to meet and exceed your expectations. I would recommend this property to anyone, especially to my closest friends and family!

Super well-maintained cottage in a perfect locale!

  • 5 of 5
The pictures of this cottage don't do it justice! The house was very clean and completely updated with modern appliances. Much nicer than being at home! We loved the bright colors and decor. Lake Michigan is only a few blocks away so we enjoyed a bike ride out to the lighthouse one morning and spent several afternoons on the beach. Fresh water, small waves and playground equipment made it the perfect beach for young children. The little beach on Lake Muskegon was only 1.5 blocks away and we walked down there every evening after dinner to play in the sand and water. There are not a lot of chain restaurants in Muskegon. We tried a few of the local recommendations; some good and some not so good. We did shop at Meijer a lot for groceries, but next time I will plan ahead and bring some staples like ketchup and butter. The house had flour, sugar, and cooking spray so we didn't have to buy those. We used the washer/dryer a lot. They are noisy, but get the job done. The ceiling fans in the bedrooms are very noisy too. The master bedroom is nice and spacious. The second bedroom has two twin beds which were perfect for my boys. There was even a basket of children's books to make bedtime easy. We had a wonderful vacation and are already talking about going back again next year. The owner was easy to reach by phone or email and takes excellent care of the property.

Owner's Response: Glad you had a great vacation, Katie, and enjoyed the lakes and house!

Thanks for your comments. I believe in prompt action and ask everyone to let me know right away if something needs attention. I'm so sorry about the noisy fans. If you had called me about them, I would have had them fixed/purchased new while you were there. I have already scheduled an electrician to come before the next guests arrive.

Adorable cottage in the Bluffton Area

  • 5 of 5
I feel so fortunate to have found this cottage. This was so much better than staying in one of the area's hotels. I now know where I will return to when I come back to visit my family. It was clean, comfortable and quiet. I found the area to be a complete delight. It was only 5 minute walk through a very charming neighborhood to get to lake Michigan and less time if you wanted to walk to look at Muskegon Lake. I had coffee out on the porch on all of my 6 day's there. Jane was an absolute delight to deal with. She provided all sorts of information when we arrived as to where to eat or what to do in the area. The cottage was equipped with everything we needed during our stay. My family came over and also fell in love with how charming and cute this cottage was.

It was delightful to chat with the both of you, and I feel like we are good friends. The new fire pit Adirondack chairs we told you about have arrived, so they'll be ready for your next visit. You'll be welcome any time!
