New Durham Vacation Rental house

This is the second year that we have returned to this "cabin." It is a relatively new log home with four bedrooms, a loft, two baths, and plenty of room for our extended family of 5 adults and three children under 5. The kitchen is well-designed and equipped and accommodates two "cooks" relatively easily. General living space included the living room, dining room, loft and porch - large enough for our brood. The living room furniture is in good condition, comfortable, and has upholstery that manages spills very easily (important for young children)! A lobster trap serves as a coffee table and comes with a lobster and star fish. Our grandchildren looked for these when they returned this year. The bedrooms are comfortable (decent beds!). Everything is very clean and well-maintained. The only down side to the cabin is that sound travels. Hence when our 3 year-old grandson awoke - his voice carried throughout the cabin. We didn't mind this - it actually provided lots of laughter over his early morning glee. But if you want to sleep in and have a large family (or a very talkative, energetic grandchild), that might not be possible! :)

The property comes with access to two ponds. A canoe and kayak are on site for use. We used the town beach at Merrymeeting Lake (about 10 minutes away) for swimming. This lake is beautiful and the beach is sandy with a shallow area perfect for young children. It was never crowded. Our grandchildren declared the beach to be the best part of the vacation.

The cabin is located just south of the lakes region - so it is out of the major tourist area - a plus from our perspective. We took the kids to the Squam Lake Science Center (one hour north), Elcoya State Park (another beautiful lake), and StoryLand (a kid-oriented amusement park about 90 minutes north). A well-supplied supermarket is just 10 minutes away. Johnson's dairy bar is also about 10 minutes away for excellent fried fish and other dishes and of course great ice cream.

The owners of the cabin are very responsive to questions, etc. They accurately describe the property and provide helpful information at the cabin itself. We are planning to return to the cabin again next year - we feel it is an excellent value and perfect for our needs.
