We are a family of three who live in Monterey, Ca. I was born in Vermont and have MANY relatives who live within minutes of the house. I actually learned how to swim at Lake St. Catherine when I was 5. My husband and I wanted our son to have a strong connection to VT and his relatives so we bought the house to ensure we would spend time in VT each year. We have not missed a year yet. We all love and cherish our time in VT.
Sharlene Gregg purchased this house in 2004
We bought this house because it had beautiful views of lake, great lake access and a large dock. Many houses on the lake have drop offs to get into the lake. Our house does have a communal lake frontage, but it is only with a few other houses and it has a nice beach with a gradual decline. This was perfect for our son who was only 4 when we bought the house. Also, the house is in a very nice, small neighborhood and most others we looked at were right on a major road. Lastly, we loved that the neighborhood had direct access to Lake St. Catherine State Park (127 acres of hiking, beaches, playgrounds, etc) and was right across from Lake St Catherine Country Club/Golf Course. We also liked that he house had southern exposure and was on a double lot so there is a huge yard (half an acre).
The location is a huge benefit since you could spend an entire week here and never get in your car. You can walk to the country club for dinner or lunch and a round of golf. You can walk to the state park and rent boats, swim at the beaches, play basketball or baseball, hike, etc. Then get an ice cream or burger at their snack stand. We provide bikes, so you could ride 1 mile to the LSC country store for supplies, soft serve ice cream and mini-golf. The house itself is well equipped to keep you entertained as well--Paddle Boat at the Dock, Foosball, Pool Table, Piano, Dart Board, Tiki Bar, 2-Flat Screen TVs, Sauna, Movies, Books, Outdoor/Water Toys, and much more.
Stayed at Firefly Cottage during Winter vacation to be close to Ski Areas.
The housekeeper must have been on vacation too.
The trash was still there from who knows when, so obviously the stench was horrendous. There was moldy spaghetti and meatballs? in the refrigerator and a moldy cup of soup? in the microwave.
dirty glasses in the bedrooms. The windows in the downstairs bedroom were unlocked and partially open. The Jaccuzzi bathtub spew out black gunk...I could go on and on.
Once we had everything cleaned up, we actually started to enjoy ouselves. Oh yeah, the walk to the front door was covered with 2 inches of solid ice, so we had to go and buy some icemelt, lest one of us was to break a leg, off the skislopes.
the Pros: really nice view
Six of us wanted a convenient place to stay for our "Golf Vacation" and a place to unwind. The owners of "Firefly Cottage" provided everything we possibly could have needed. It was as though our wives went ahead of us and made sure we had all the comforts of home. We only needed to provide our food. We look forward to returning next year!!!!!
A beautiful cottage on a beautiful lake! We have been staying on Lake St. Catherine since the early 90s but at a different location. We came across this house when the former house we rented was sold and loved the setting it was in. The view of the lake is,as always to us, spectacular. The property is up a bit to give a fantastic view of the lake and the evening sunsets are awesome. The property is well kept and close enough to the golf course to walk. All the area restaurants we like are a short drive away or you can do your own cooking on a gas grill or spacious kitchen with all the utensils you need. Sleeping accomodations are very nice and with the dormer being added this fall, should be even more impressive! We highly recommend this beautiful home as we have to friends and co-workers alike! We'll be back again this summer, can't wait.
The lake is a 2 minute walk from the house. There you will enjoy 90 feet of lake frontage, BBQ's, benches, and your own private dock and paddle boat. The swimming is fantastic with gravel lake bottom and gradual decline (perfect for the kids). During the day make the short drive to Killington/Pico for skiing (40 minutes), walk across the street (1/2 mile) to Lake St. Catherine Country Club for a day of golf, go hiking at Lake St. Catherine State Park (next door), go shopping and sight-seeing in Manchester (30 minutes) or Bennington (40 minutes), or simply relax, boat, fish, or play at the lake. Return home to a glowing sunset, an evening BBQ and/or a crackling fire (either indoors or outdoors).
