WORST stay EVER!! Ruined my ENTIRE vacation!!!
The listing was NOT accurate. Yes, it's a close walk to the beach but the unit is run down, has stained, nasty carpets, the couches were extremely uncomfortable, stained and old as dirt, and the shower didn't even work when we got there! Had to wait an entire day for someone to come fix it. The TVs were very small and hard to see. Two days after getting there, we discovered it was infested with FLEAS!! YUCK! Myself and 2 small children were finding fleas on us in every room and flea bites on our legs. After confronting Anne-Marie about this, she denied they were fleas and blamed us for it! It took her 2 days to get back with us regarding the fleas! She was extremely un-helpful and frankly rude about the situation. Neither one of us adults that were staying there have pets at home and were willing to get statements from landlords at home stating that. We spent 3 days doing loads and loads of laundry to wash all our clothes, blankets and pillows so we wouldn't take fleas home with us!! We had to put our suitcases up on the kitchen counters because we were afraid fleas would get in them!! It was awful! We drove a very long distance to enjoy a beach vacation and relax but it was ruined because of her unit and unwillingness to fix the problem! I would NEVER recommend this property, or owner for that matter, to anyone! Anne-Marie was VERY rude and unprofessional to us before and during our stay when we had any questions or concerns! She has yet to apologize for what happened nor has she offered any sort of compensation to us! IT was the WORST stay I've ever had on vacation and I'm not sure I will ever return to Gulf Shores because of it.
Owner's Response: Very sad, inflammatory review. Here are the facts: She checked in on a Saturday, but it was 4 days later, Tuesday night, before she e mailed about a potential flea problem. Although there were no fleas reported by the cleaning service who cleaned before her arrival, we took her complaint very seriously and as soon as we could find a unit that was still open, would take a 2 day guest, and used a system that did not require a key mail (in high summer, this us took 6 hours of calls and emails, but again, we were very concerned) we paid out of pocket to move this guest to another condo, and then sent in two separate parties to evaluate the situation, including a professional pest inspection service-both found NO evidence of fleas, and gave the condo a clean bill of health. Although the new unit was comparable to ours, 2 bed, 1 ba, across street from beach, her response was that we didn't get her a beach view unit!
We have rented our condos for nine years and have never in that time had a complaint. Our bedding and linens are replaced annually, the carpets were new in 2011 and they are deep cleaned on a regular basis. We have a 24 hour handyman and cleaning service on call to respond to unexpected emergencies, and spent considerable time, effort, and money to please this guest. The last communication I had from this person stated that they were going to do "everything in their power to ruin our reputation." The only thing we can say as a professional is that apparently some people have issues that cannot be helped. Its just too bad they try to take their unhappiness out by defaming and slandering people. I guess if you are in business as long as we have been you will eventually encounter a "bad apple." Nothing but sadness for her. We hope our many positive reviews, current photos, and honest response will speak for themselves, including the one from the guest who stayed just before this person, who obviously had a very different opinion.
