We are ISLANDERS for many generations. On the Island we are in the Real Estate business located in town known as MADELINE ISLE Realty. Winters we esacpe to our Minneapolis home. Barge Bay was built by our family in the 1950's as a simple beach cabin as it is today. Our guests have been returning for several generations and feel as stake owners in this cabin. We hope that you wil enjoy it as much as our family has, a place to just hang out.
Bob Kron purchased this cabin in 1950
This is the finest private beach on Madeline Island.
If you're looking for a place that allows you to enjoy the beauty and feel of Madeline Island in its entirety, you can find it right here. As a seasoned "summer person" that has visited the Island for decades, I can tell you that this cottage really does capture the character of the island. The inside of the cottage is cozy and comfortable, but if you're looking to spend time enjoying the Island, the beaches and Lake Superior - this is where you should be. If you've been visiting the island for a long time, you'll know that it changes you but you don't change it! That's part of what makes this place special - once you become and islander you'll see why.
This place is where family memories are made. My wife and I and our five kids have been coming here for 25 years....with each year a new discovery, but more importantly, this place never changes. The site is fantastic with privacy and sand everywhere and gorgeous views. Snorkeling the ship wreck off the beach, building sand castles, nightly beach bonfires, star gazing, biking, and beach combing are steps off the deck overlooking the sea grass. Once we arrive....we never put our shoes back on. Leave the windows open....the waves crashing on the beach will lull you to sleep most nights. The cabin is rustic, simple and charming....but also a great value considering the location, privacy, and sand. There is no TV...but who needs one when the quaint library in La Pointe has every magazine and book available you never got to read all year long. Amazing things happen when you leave the PS-3 or Xbox home....we start playing with each other again.
Lovely private beach and a no worries beachside cabin. Relax and enjoy you visit to the island.
The location is excellent--private beach with hammock and chairs--great beach for little ones, but to be honest there are lots of rentals with private beaches on Madeline Island and it was expensive for what we got:
Outside: the place is generally messy: deck full of cobwebs, old chairs, --it hasn't been maintained well
Inside: the cabin is TINY so if you are more than 4, you will find it too small.
Kitchen was alright--just what you needed
Living room is even smaller--tiny couch(fits two) and one chair--no tv, music, etc. Bring your laptop.
Bathroom--bathroom was dirty--I had to scrub the toilet the first day and found hair and OTHER stuff in the tub--gross--it seems the bathroom was added after the cabin was built--very small too. Not cozy at all.
Two bedrooms are dark and the master bedroom was drab.(Heavy green comforters, chest, etc.)
A POSITIVE: Owner leaves aluminum foil, candles, cleaners(which proved useful) in a small cabinet.
For this price, you might try someplace else.
I spent the weekend at this cottage for my birthday with my friends and boyfriend and one of my dogs. The cottage was perfect, cozy and warm. Two nice sized bedrooms. The view to The Lake was unbelievable, but more unbelievable was the beach and how private everything was.
Great fire pit with ample outdoor seating. I will definitely be making this an annual visit and hope to get another long weekend in by end of the season!
After reading the other reviews, we had high hopes for our anniversary getaway. There are no personal touches in this cottage - did not feel that owner ever spends time here..., kitchen provisions are meager at best - (had to scrub cooked on crud off frying pans before I could use it). No charm in decor (whatever there is of it!). Bathroom thrown together. If you are looking for a romantic, cozy, charming getaway - keep looking. The weekend we went was very chilly, the heaters in the front room barely heated the room - no heat in the kitchen or bathroom, heater in bedroom was way too hot. The location is beautiful. If you are planning to rent in the summer months and plan to stay out of the house most of the day - this could suit your needs. Overall - not worth the price asked for rental.
