Great home base!

Overall, this was a fantastic base from which to do all of our island adventures. First, the king bed is exceptionally comfortable! Our 7-year-old was quite comfy on the futon as well. The apartment is fully furnished... everything you'd need in a kitchen (minus an oven, but there IS a large toaster oven and a small electric grill), in a bathroom, and for the beach (including towels, a rolling cooler, and snorkel masks). There are even some nonperishable items in the kitchen left over from previous guests (including some spices). Free access to laundry was GREAT (with soap provided)... we used it almost every evening for wet towels/suits, etc. We also enjoyed the free wi-fi and the access to Sports Center on TV. The apartment gets lovely cross breezes, but also has excellent air conditioning, which we used in the evening for more comfy sleep. The view from the lanai is gorgeous, although due to the sun heating it up, it's really only comfy in early morning... it was great for coffee and a book before others got up. Very safe, quiet, residential area. And last but not least, Diana was super sweet and helpful... She was easily reachable when we had questions (e.g., grocery store location, top things to see on island, July 4 fireworks options, etc.). When we asked if she had a life vest for our daughter (for snorkeling), she loaned us one from her family. While the apartment wasn't Spic-n-Span clean in the less-obvious spaces like under beds, on various shelves, in laundry room, and such (think cottage rather than hotel room), it was spacious and comfortable and met our every need. If we ever have the pleasure of returning to this amazing island, we will definitely stay here again!
And yes, it is 2 miles (5-minute drive) to Kailua Beach with mild surf, turquoise waters, powdery sand, and bathrooms/rinse-off showers... my 7-year-old's favorite place on the island! (If the beach park parking lot is full, you can park in the surrounding residential areas). And it was a great launching point for ALL island adventures... 15 minutes to Waimanalo (with yummy plate lunches), 1/2 hour to Honolulu/Waikiki or Hanauma Bay or the rainforest/waterfall trails, 45 minutes to the Dole Plantation or Paradise Cove or Diamond Head, 1 hour to the North Shore. Oh, and every Thursday afternoon, there's an inexpensive farmer's market (with produce AND prepared meals of every kind) right in front of the Long's drug store in Kailua... don't miss it!
