We looked at a lot of places in Graeagle. Many were surrounded by trees, which is great, but never got enough sun and seemed dank. Our place gets plenty of light (even among many trees) because of the way it's situated. With an exposed, post & beam structure & cathedral ceiling, it's our just idea of a mountain getaway!

We really did have a fantastic time....and the Chalet was a perfect get-a-way place for our group of 5. The Chalet is really well appointed, neat, clean and has extra blankets, dishes, and all things you need. The kitchen is very nice and worked great for our meals and cooking... The outdoor deck, BBQ and upstairs are almost bonuses and served us perfectly. The access point from the parking in the driveway was super easy, and the neighbors who were there seemed nice and no issues.
The only issue was garbage collection and where to put it...since no access to the garage. The dishwasher door also is very loose.
All in all......a top spot and and we hope secure the Chalet for a rental at the same time next year....for 4-5 days, not 3!
Now on the area:
The entire area has several real good maps available of the Lakes Basin area. The area of Graeagle is the backside of the Buttes...and has amazing lakes, trails, lodges, rides, golfing, fishing etc. Johnsville is also a tiny almost Ghost town with a State Park, Mine, museum and has the first Sierra ski area with most of it viewable...at the end of the road, near Graeagle- about 10 miles away.
The area offers very good golf courses, hiking, fishing and mountain biking too. Several high mountain lodges make the visits there a great experience. You can buy an actual trail map in town and costs $15, most of which goes to SBTG....Sierra Buttes Trail Group who maintain the high mountain trails. The crowds are minimal and golf fee's reasonable and the mountain air and blue skies alone, make the trip worthwhile.

This year will be our third visit to the Chalet. We love the area. We find the lodging quite comfortable, easy to get to, and pretty much everything we need to enjoy our vacation. The downstairs shower is great. The upstairs closet is super roomy. We love sitting out on the deck reading or getting prepped for fishing. All in all, the Chalet is a good place to stay when you visit the Graeagle area.
Bottom line: Very good value but we would pay more for better amenities next time.
My fiance and I stayed here for five nights this July (2013). Below are some pluses & minuses you might consider when making a decision about this place.
+'s: The place is pretty clean; the beds are comfortable (we tried the upstairs and downstairs queens); there is sufficient cookware and dinnerware; the setting is nice - inside is a large open living area with a loft that has a few chairs (but little else); large, comfy couch with pillows downstairs; outside, there is a nice deck that extends from front to back doors; behind the house is a greenbelt area with a lot of trees and the houses next door aren't too close; some wildlife visits the area.
-'s: There is some deferred maintenance - some of the vertical blinds are missing and/or missing their control function; the shower doors are in need of adjustment/lubrication. Outside table/chairs hardware is loose. A couple safety improvement suggestions - get a better trash storage cabinet. We were visited two nights by a very large brown bear who easily got into the Rubbermaid type cabinet and removed the trash can.. A heavy rock on the cabinet was no deterrent. The cabinet is located on the front porch, about six feet from the front door. If the bear keeps getting in, he may become a nuisance and have to be relocated, or worse. Other safety suggestions - a garden hose would be a good idea, just in case of fire. Along those lines, a brick pad for the charcoal burning bbq would be a much better place than on the wood deck.
Other thoughts: Would be nice to have an arrival/info packet about the place (including the telephone number for the phone). No internet (unless you connect via cell phone service). Having a connection might entice visitors to stay (and work) an extra day or two. Dish network service for the two older flat-screen Sony Trinitrons (one in living room and one in master) is the most basic cable service (didn't matter to us – we weren’t there to watch tv, but) no music channels and the portable CD/stereo radio picked up no stations. No library of movies or CD's on site. No toilet paper holder in the upstairs bath. There is a hot tub in back but it's not maintained/usable. Bring spices for your food if you want anything other than salt and pepper.
Graeagle and the Lakes Basin area are beautiful. All the people we met were friendly. We'll be back but stay someplace a bit nicer.
