We are two marine biologists, and we enjoy relaxing at this property when we have a little time off
James E. Maragos purchased this condo in 2011
We love the North Shore. We especially love visiting it during winter time when the big waves give unforgettable shows. Also there is Waimea Falls Park nearby where you can bathe in cool fresh water, view the majestic falls, and walk through the wonderful botanical garden,
Our condo has two bedrooms, a king bed. 2 queen beds and 2 futons. Our condo borders a golf fairway and with great views of the golf course and a window of the beach and ocean beyond. As an upstairs unit with a loft, there is better privacy, security, views, and ventilation from the onshore trade winds. It is located far away from the highway and resort noise, and when the windows are opened, the cool onshore breezes avoids the need to turn on the AC and ceiling fans in the condo. In fact we owners have never found the need to use the AC. The condo as 2 HD TVs & 2 DVD players, DVDs, cable TV, internet access, wifi, a full kitchen with new appliances & many other upgrades. Sport toys stored in the condo include 3 boogie boards, men & women golf clubs, tennis rackets, beach chairs, several snorkeling sets and a rubber dingy.
We (family of 5) have traveled to the islands many times and have finally found the perfect housing arrangement. Conveniently located at Turtle Bay, close to everything on the North Shore. Being close to the water is important to us but we dislike the high resort and beachfront prices. We could see the water without paying the high price. This condo was modern, clean, very well stocked with everything we needed (washer/dryer, fridge with ice maker, full kitchen, beach towels, fans, fun Hawaii books, large movie selection, snack ziplocks, boogie boards, snorkeling equipment, beach equip - cooler, umbrella, chairs, toys, etc) the owner was very accommodating and helpful, wonderful to work with. We especially appreciated his vast snorkeling information and maps. Highly recommend this property.
What a beautiful condo. So relaxing but only moments from the lovely hotel for breakfast or dinner. The condo has it all from lovely dishes and linens to boogie boards and snorkels.
My family and I had a terrific stay here. The condo was very clean, comfortable, and well-maintained. Beds had nice, comfortable mattresses. We enjoyed the nice views of the golf course, the ocean breeze, and the close proximity to the Turtle bay resort. The kids went in the ocean every day, and took advantage of the snokeling equipment from the condo. In the past, we've stayed at the Turtle Bay resort, but found this condo to be far more convenient, but with the same benefits that the resort offers.
We also found our host and property owner to be exceptional! On the week that we visited, two hurricanes threatened the islands towards the end of the week. Jim, the owner of the property contacted us, and out of concern for our safety recommended that we stay the last night of our visit in Honolulu (closer to the airport). We took his advice, and avoided interruptions to travel. In addition, after we left, he offered to refund a portion of the rent we had paid for the condo -- something we did not expect, but which we found to be very generous and thoughtful. We will definately stay here again in the future, and would recommend to friends!
Thanks very much to Jim for making your condo available. It's in an excellent location on a golf course, walk to the beach and Turtle Bay Resort. The condo was clean, well maintained and had everything you could ask for to make for a relaxing vacation (boogie boards, tennis racquets, flippers etc).
The condo was also an easy drive to Haleiwa village that has some good shopping and restaurants and an easy drive to the Polynesian Cultural Centre, Dole Plantation and many shrimp trucks with great value and great tasting food.
I stayed here with my wife, 10 yo daughter and twin 9yo sons and we would all thoroughly recommend this condo as a brilliant place to stay for a peaceful, fun and exciting vacation.
Everything as listed in property details. Kitchen has everything you need to cook including all utensils, pots and pans, large refrigerator, microwave and dishwasher. Large washer and dryer which was very handy. 2 A/C and 3 overhead fans. Lots of beach toys and coolers which were great. 3 wonderful pools and tennis court nearby.
Best nearby local restaurants Tita's Grill (the best!) and Papa Ole's. Hukilau Cafe over-rated and long wait.
Beware only one toilet. I thought it might have been a problem but with careful timing it all worked out.
I would think twice about renting this condo if you have small children. (Some neighbors are full time permanent residents. Thin, single wall wood construction.) Owner called up on first night to tell us that others were complaining about our noise and to remind us we should turn off our A/C when we left apt. to save on electricity. Lots of cool breezes through airy apt.
Overall good value but would not stay here again with grandchildren.
We brought the family to the North Shore and were very happy with the area and the accommodations.
My kids really love Sunset Beach..some decent waves to play in or boogy board, etc.
The condos are quite nice. This property suited us just fine and the owner was very helpful and easy to work with. The only thing I'll say not so positive is that there was mildew all over the master bedroom closet slats... and the shower curtain had mildew all over it. Both very easy solutions. Probably just ready for a deep clean (such as the shower vent, etc) Sure, some updates to carpet and paint would help, but we'd go back, easily.
Turtle Bay is at the northern tip of the island of Oahu and is the farthest destination on the island from crowded Honolulu, Waikiki and remaining sub-cities to the south. It is the only resort situated in a windward rural area on the island. If you enjoy soft evening breezes, clean air, and dark quiet nights, then Turtle Bay is the best destination for visitors. The 3 nearest towns, Kahuku and Laie to the south and Pupukea-Haleiwa to the west, are quaint and popular destinations for both locals and visitors. There is a hospital at Kahuku.
The region is blessed with healthy pristine trade-winds during most of the year which keeps the region cool and lush from intermittent rain showers. Turlte Bay is at the northern tip of the island, adjacent to the North Shore to the west and the 'windward side' to the east which stretches from Kahuku at the northeast end, and Waimanalo at the southeast end of the coast. There are many parks, the best beaches and beach parks, botanical gardens, a few small restaurants and shopping centers and mostly small villages along the coast. Kaneone is the largest town along the northest coast, about 25 miles south of Turtle Bay. Other natural attractions are the ancient fishponds of Kaneohe Bay and the only offshore barrier reef and lagoon in Hawaii with many beach parks and opportunities for boating, fishing, diving, opportunities. Kaneohe has a large mall with movie theaters, and a community college. Another college is located at Laie near the Polynesian Cultural Center, a major tourist attraction about 5 miles southeast from Turtle Bay. Another nearby popular attraction is a breathtaking view of windward coast from Laie Point.
Neighboring Kawela Bay to the west of Turtle Bay is a spectacular secluded beach surrounded by rain forests known locally as 'Paradise Beach'. It can be reached by car across Kam highway opposite the fruit stands just west of the Turtle Bay resort. Kawela Beach can also be reached by walking west along the coast from Turtle Bay. Further west is Pupukea which supports the most popular snorkeling site, 'Sharks Cove Marine Life Conservation District' with spectacular reef fish and corals. Further west is the world reknown surf sites at Bonzai Pipeline (Ehukai), Sunset Beach and Waimea Bay. Waimea Falls Park is a popular botanical garden across the hghway from Waimea Bay. Futher west are additional famous surf sites including Chuns Reef to the west. Further west is Haleiwa Town, a meccca for artisans, surfers, divers, farmers, and related fruit stands, boutiques, surf-dive shops, other quaint shops, several restaurants, a famous bridge, a few shopping malls, several beach parks, and one protected small boat harbor which supports diving and sport fishing opportunities. World famous Haleiwa shave ice is also available at several stores in the middle of the town.
Turtle Bay Resort not only supports two large gated residental communities but supports a five-star hotel with all the major associated ammenities, including massage and hair parlors, restaurants, spas, saunas, swimming pools, beaches, volleyball, safe swimming areas etc. Horse-back riding, tennis, and golf are available there. Visitors can rent bicycles and snorkeling gear and otherwise explore the many beaches and paths within the resort and beyond for many miles in both directions along the coast.
