An Idyllic Getaway on a Beautiful Island

Our family has rented this wonderful house for several years and we are eagerly looking forward to returning for a week this summer. The house is a beautifully appointed, lovingly maintained home, with lovely personal touches in every corner. The setting is both secluded on Deer Isle and, at the same time, offers convenient access to all corners of the island as well as nearby Blue Hill, Brooklin, Castine, and numerous other irresistible Maine towns, each with its unique pleasures. Mount Desert Island and Acadia National Park are an easy day trip from the house.
There is a magical short walk from Hardy's Hill House down to the old Ferry Landing, with enchanting vews of Eggemoggin Reach and the Deer Isle Bridge. Adjacent to that is a wonderful local land trust preserve, with beach and meadow walks.
Peter and Christine Jones are gracious, thoughtful and most responsive owners, with a very obvious love for the house and this wondrous isle. It has been a great joy getting to know them over the years.
But the most precious part of our time at Hardy's Hill House has been the accumulation of family memories - relaxed quiet time together, playing Scrabble, taking countless walks, beachcombing, trips to the farmer's market in Stonington, ferry rides and hikes on Isle au Haut (a gorgeous, little used part of Acadia National Park, lying off Deer Isle), lobster dinners, playing catch in the large yard, feeling wholly at home.
This is Maine at its unspoiled best.
