Too many bites

BEDBUGS! BEDBUGS! BEDBUGS! Found in all 3 bedrooms by the pest control co. We saw them the first night we arrived while setting up our laptop in one of the spare bedrooms. We had never seen one before and assumed it was just "a Florida bug" crawling on the wall. We also noticed a sign on the patio door that read " keep door closed to keep out biting bugs", so we thought that was what we had seen in the bedroom. As days went on we started noticing we were getting more and more bites and they were itching and they hurt. My husband went to a walk in clinic for creme for the itching and we asked the management staff what to do. They sent a pest control co. to spray the inside and outside of the house. The bites slowed down but did not stop. Our daughter and her family arrived the last week of our stay and when something fell behind the headboard in one of the spare bedrooms, they found the bugs living. The man from the pest co. said they had been there a long time and that we needed to leave ASAP. Luckily we found a hotel we stayed in for 2 nights til we left for home. Our last 2 days were spent washing and drying all our belongings in hot water as advised by the pest control. We never heard from the owners or management co. until we contacted them and then they blamed us for bringing in the bedbugs. We told them we had verification from the hotel we stay at on way to Florida that they treated their room periodicallly for bedbugs, according to their policy and there was no luggage in the bedroom where we saw the bedbug the first night. I noticed small blood spots on the sheets in the spare bedroom when I made the bed before our daughter came so we know someone else had gotten bit and was scratching. We had to hire an attorney to get our deposit and the cost of 2 nights in a hotel from the owners. We would not recommend this property to anyone unless you have a great knowledge of bedbugs and how difficult it is to get rid of them. Our ignorance of bedbugs cost us a great deal of stress, pain and a relaxing vacation.
Owner's Response: Yes, we did have bed bugs for a brief period, probably brought into our home by the people making the complaint! They say they saw them early in their stay but they still lived in our home for 26 days before leaving.
They vacated the property on April 20 and on April 23 the professional pest control company moved in. After more than $3000 of eradication work, replacement beds, bedding, towels, steam cleaning of carpets and soft furnishings, the home was declared free of bed bugs by the end of May.
It's now November and nine separate parties of guests have enjoyed staying in our home since the end of May, with no bites and no complaints. THE BUGS ARE GONE.
The pest control company now visit the home each month to check out the bug-free status.
