We are both retired military (USAF), with new careers. My husband was born and raised in Michigan and wanted his own little piece of Michigan.
Cynthia or Terry purchased this house in 2010
We currently reside in Hawaii and when we found our cabin online in the aptly named 'Aloha Township', we figured it was fate or karma and bought it!
We love having the cabin on its own private lake. It's very quiet and peaceful, with plenty of wildlife that likes to hang out with us and our guests.
This was a great place to stay and enjoy the winter activies of northern Michigan. If you love the feel of a real log home and breath taking views arcoss a snow covered lake, this is the place. There is plenty of space with large rooms and bath rooms.
It is easy to get to right off M-33. Town it not too far off and the snowmobile trail is a mile up the road. The Ski resorts and Macinaw is not too far away also. There is also pleanty of room to park your snowmobile trailer and get in and out. One of the nicest places we have stayed in Michigan.
This was our second trip to the cabin, and it was just as great as we remembered. The weather was less cooperative this time, but we still managed to have a lot of fun and keep busy. The cabin is very spacious and there was plenty of room for everyone to spread out (we had 7 this year). Lots of puzzles, good books and movies, plus the game room was a big hit. The property was very clean and ready for us to just bring in bags and food. Very quiet lake with a lot of privacy.
Very nice yard and beach area for our small grandchildren. Nice and clean very well kept up. There was also pretty good fishing in a smaller lake. Very peaceful and quiet. Would recommend to friends or relatives. I only gave it 4 stars because of a neighbor dog that does a lot of barking. Other then that it was a very enjoyable week. Our family wants to go back next year.
Quiet and serene cottage in the woods. Perfect location and gorgeous views. Lots of amenities and games/activities to do and bonus for having kid friendly books, crib, games. Like that they allow dogs too, after all they're part of the family.
If you're looking for a family spot in Northern MI, you can't go wrong here. Home is just as described in the listing. Very spacious, it was clean, easy to find. Area feels very safe. We have six in our family, with our kids being 11-16 years old, and they had a great week. We lucked out with good weather so we used the canoe and rowboat daily, and played badminton and volleyball and basketball, horseshoes. But if you had rainy days, the owners have a plethora of games inside as well as DVD movies to suit any age or taste. Fishing was so-so - there was a catch each day but they weren't biting like mad. But the neighbor said the lake had ice up until two weeks ago. There are two firepits, and firewood is available to purchase everywhere in the area for $2.50 - $3.00 a bundle. There are 6 adironack chairs, plus they also have camp chairs if you need more seating.
We appreciated that the owners thought of everything you might need to make a comfortable stay...there were night lights in every room, Q-tips in the bathroom, charcoal and fluid, matches, lighter, flashlights, cleaning and laundry supplies available, paper towels, napkins, paper plates, spices in the cupboard, well-stocked kitchen in terms of utensils for whatever you might want to cook. I'm sure some of it is left from previous renters, but we've stayed in condos where the maid completely cleans everything out and only the very basics are available so it was a refreshing change.
The location is great - Cheboygan is an easy 10-15 min drive to get to a variety of eating joints and WalMart and grocery stores. No chain restaurants here except fast food, but thanks to TripAdvisor and Urbanspoon we had great meals all week too.
We went up to Sault Ste Marie one day (less than 1.5 hr drive) and over to Petoskey (50 minutes) on another. Mackinac Island and Mackinaw City are an easy 35-40 min away. Elk viewing down in Gaylord and Indian River are also great options. We saw an elk about five minutes from the house leaving for dinner one night.
No A/C but we were fine - they have fans in every room. Even had the wifi up and running, which my kids appreciated!! Cell service spotty as mentioned, but we had a signal most of the time (AT&T).
Home has neighbors, but the property is secluded with trees on both sides. Very peaceful both day and night - can hear birds and frogs and loons.
Owners were great with communications before, during and after stay. THX!
We were excited to see the cabin anyway but when we pulled up and saw the home we knew we were in for a treat! Homey, clean, great yard & beautiful lake - you really could not ask for more! Every detail was paid attention to - right down to a filet knife hanging on the wall. Truly in 'move-in' condition, we literally could have only brought food and clothes and been good to go! It was not too far from the downtown area, and we also ventured to Petoskey & the U.P. and felt we were very centrally located. Great correspondence with the owners - they are quick to respond! Very positive experience for us and I would highly recommend this home to anyone! Thanks for making our stay so great! Jocelyn, Scott, Max, Jake, Nicole and our 3 poochies Jackson, Rita & Shaggy-dog
Enjoy our large private sand beach, swimming, and fishing at no-motor Devereaux Lake. The home is convenient to many northern Michigan attractions. Boat the inland waterway, over 45 miles of lakes and rivers stretching to Lake Huron. Fish and boat on huge Mullett Lake (public launch 1 mile fm the cabin), Black Lake (5 miles), Burt Lake (20 minutes), or Lake Huron (15 minutes). Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island ferry are only 30 minutes away. Black Mountain recreation area is ~ 2-3 miles fm cabin (hiking, ATV trails). Many golf courses are within an easy drive. Many wineries close by to tour.
Autumn: Relax & enjoy the beautiful changing colors of northern Michigan!
Winter: Snowmobile miles of groomed trails (main trail is ~2 miles fm cabin), ice fish on Devereaux Lake, or area lakes, or cross-country ski (marked trails at Black Mountain). Ski resorts near Petoskey & Nub's Knob offer the best in Michigan, only 45 minutes away. Pick your activity, or just relax at tranquil Devereaux Lake!
