GREAT PLACE TO RELAX!

  • 5 of 5
Loved this house! We came with an extended family (plus some strays) group of 12 and I was worried that we'd feel crowded. But the house is large enough, and has huge decks so everyone could spread out. The kids loved the huge yard and running down the hill to the beach. We loved that they had a place to burn off energy. The kitchen was large enough to hold our group, and the 2 stoves and 2 refrigerators were perfect. I liked that there was a separate dining room which had another large table that we used for puzzles and games. The owner was easy to reach and was very kind about answering all of my questions b/4 we came. We were fortunate enough to have perfect weather. Now I just have to figure out a time to make a return visit.

NICE VACATION HOME

  • 4 of 5
This is by far the best house we have rented. It was clean, had plenty of room for all 14 of us, was fully stocked with towels and linens and with two refrigerators and two stoves in the kitchen, we did not lack for space in the kitchen. It was a short walk down to the water, which was beautiful. We found small starfish in the water and even a full grown one. It was close enough to town to go get groceries and there was a home about 5 miles from the house that sold lobster very cheap. We visited Bar Harbor and Acadia Nation Park and went into the town of Ellsworth one day. The house is even close to a hospital, which we needed one day. The only thing I would say went wrong was the day we tried to grill and found out the gas grill did not work and the library with the wi-fi was not as friendly as it was made to sound. The drive was long but we would definitely come back again as it was one of best vacations.

FANTASTIC FAMILY RETREAT

  • 4 of 5
I stayed here four summers running and can't say enough good things about this property and Hancock Point. If you seek an expansive family home with historic charm and comfort--a "real" Downeast experience--this is an ideal destination. Hancock Point is remote and peaceful, with a charming library, post office, tennis courts and "yacht club." (If you're lucky, your visit will coordinate with the club's blueberry pancake breakfast.) The kitchen in this property is wonderful when cooking for a crowd, and the adjacent butler's pantry has its own sink--a nice backup. With front stairs and back stairs and multiple bedrooms and decks, it's a paradise for children.

GREAT HOUSE!

  • 4 of 5
Our family of 14 stayed here the week of 8/9/10 and had a great time.
Plenty of room for everyone and nice location near Bar Harbor and Schoodic point 40 minutes away.
There was little bicycle garage (George's) nearby that let us use bicycles for free if we could make a minor repair.

PERFECT FOR A FAMILY GATHERING

  • 5 of 5
I rented this house with two sisters and our families (13 of us in all) for a week in Aug/Sept 2009. The house is just as advertised with lots of room for entertaining, both inside and out. We were on Hancock Point for a wedding and had over 30 people for dinner twice during our stay. The kitchen was very well equipped. The owner was most helpful and truthful with info about the house and activities in the area. We had good weather, but this is a house which could accommodate a crowd on a rainy day. This is a great house for people who want to enjoy the pleasures Down East Maine has to offer without spending alot of time in front of the TV or in the bathroom.

HOUSE OVERLOOKING FRENCHMAN'S BAY

House overlooking Frenchman's Bay
  • 3 of 5
Just had a week here and the house is indeed large and overlooks Frenchman's Bay. Walk to the bay is a long block but not far. Kitchen is adequate---burners on one stove only half work but has 2 stoves. Has 2 refrigerators--only one works well. House was once beautiful but needs to be painted and updated. Bathrooms adequate--only one usable shower and that is tough for 12 people for a week. Water is well water--high in minerals, tastes metallic. Owner very nice and available. For the area the price of the house was reasonable. The rooms of the house were nice and in its day I bet this was a very grand home that was well loved. Flower beds and potted plants on porch were gorgeous. Being so near the ocean made this week great--kids loved collecting shells and even got free lobsters from a local! Acadia is about 40 minutes away--without traffic and it is absolutely beautiful! Weather was only fair all week--lots of rain and fog, so never did get to use the porches--that was too bad, they were beautiful.

Owner's Response: We are glad that this guest enjoyed our home overall, and we also want to make sure that future renters also know of a few changes since she visited in 2008. Another shower was added in 2009, and a new stove is being added in the kitchen in 2010. Additionally, the one full-size refrigerator is large enough for most guests, with the second one provided as a supplement, such as for drinks. It is a shame that the weather made it difficult to enjoy the porches. There is nothing like relaxing on the porch to make it truly seem like vacation!
