Just 10 minutes drive from Mediterranean beaches, this characterful medieval village in the foothills of the beautiful Alberes mountains. Your holiday villa is in a quiet cul-de-sac and has its own private pool with sunny terraces. A scenic 10 minute stroll takes you to the boulangeries and other small shops, restaurants and bars of the village - or you could walk up into the mountain footpaths. The villa sleeps 6 in 3 double rooms, is stylish and very well equipped.

Beaches: The blue Meditrerranean is visible from the village and just 10 minutes drive. There are flat sandy beaches for sandcastles and rocky coves suitable for snorkeling. There are often swimming platforms and pedalos or windsurfers are for hire. Walking: Footpaths into the mountains with chestnut and cork oak trees and views to the sea, start about 10 minutes walk from the villa. The stream is fun for children to play in. There are dramatic rocky, flowery coast paths too. Food and wine: The Cote Roussillon and Roussillon Villages red wines are superb - wine writers are just beginning to get excited about these 'under-rated' wines. There are 4 restaurants in Laroque one specialising in seafood, another offering typical robust Catalan cuisine and a third includes a Tapas bar. There are 2 bakeries, a butchers and 2 grocers. Buy from the farm: goat's cheese, olive oil, almonds, apricots, kiwi fruit. Airports: Perpignan (40mins), Gerona (1hr15), Barcelona (2hrs15) by autoroute

Notes: Swimming Pool - New, sunny and not overlooked. 8m x 3m, sloping from 1m depth with integral steps, to 1.7m. Solar shower. Spacious terraces - One facing east (by the swimming pool) and one west for all day sunshine, or all day shade. Sit by the pool and enjoy the Pyrenees view or among the leafy fig, grape vine and lavender of the west terrace. Comfy bedrooms - Good-sized rooms with comfy beds. Bed linen is provided and your beds will be made up ready for your arrival. Master bedroom has extra-large bed and French windows to the east terrace and swimming pool. Spacious sitting/dining room - Comfy seating, books for adults and children, games, toys. Wood-burning stove (there is central heating throughout the house, too). Frecnh windows to terrace and pool. Kitchen - Very well equipped with dishwasher, microwave and pleasant tableware. Washing machine in attached garage. Our guests have not been able to suggest anything we haven't provided!

How to get there : Perpignan is the closest airport (25km): Fly Flybe from Birmingham and Southampton, Ryanair from Stanstead. Girona is 1hr 15mins almost entirely by motorway: Fly Ryanair from Stanstead, Luton, Bournemouth, Nottingham East Midlands, Blackpool, Liverpool, Glasgow Prestwick. Barcelona is 2 hrs 15mins almost entirely by motorway and can be reached from many UK airports - including by Jet2 and Easyjet.

Things to do : In addition to the beaches, walking, food and wine outlined in the 'location' section, the area is interesting for history and art: The medieval village of Laroque-des-Alberes is charming and there is plenty of interesting medieval history in churches, cloisters and other villages of the region. There is a castle at Coullioure. Sevillanas (local dances) are popular specatacles. Nearby Ceret has a modern art gallery with work by Picasso and others, while the Dali museum is just the other side of the border in Spain and Collioure is full of artists studios specialising particularly in colourful Fauve style art.
