Give us a call, we love to chatting about Homer, our cottage, about life, or whatever!
Welcome to Little Fireweed Cottage in Homer, Alaska. We strive to ensure that your experience at our cottage is one that stays with you forever. Whether you are in Homer just to relax and soak in the breathtaking views or here to dive into the multitude of outdoor activities this unique area of the world offers, we are confident that your stay at Little Fireweed Cottage will be one of the highlights of your trip.
Before we discovered the jewel that is Homer, we traveled around the world and stayed in many vacation homes along the way. We have taken many of those things, which we enjoyed the most when staying in those homes and have tried to incorporate them into our vacation rental.
Just recently built in 2006 on one and a half private acres, Little Fireweed Cottage was made to serve as a retreat and a home-away-from-home for those traveling for the 'Homer experience'. After a long day of fishing for halibut, sightseeing, or hiking, come home to cook up your seafood just the way you like it on the barbecue grill.
Pour yourself a glass of wine from one of our bottles on site and ponder whether it is time to melt away in the very brand new hot tub with its grand views or whether that should wait until after the movie you are going to watch on the flat-screen TV/home theater. If you're a night owl, there's always the fire pit up on the hill, with the swinging chair that turns into a bed.
We know that everyone has their own ways of doing 'vacation'. With that said, we believe that in whatever way you seek to find ultimate relaxation, Little Fireweed Cottage will serve you wonderfully in that endeavor.

My wife is from New Brunswick, Canada and I am from Palmer, Alaska. Growing up six hours away in the Matanuska Valley, I always loved the opportunity to get down to Homer to visit my family there. Since a very young age, Homer has held a very special place in my heart. I have traveled to nearly 40 different countries around the world but I have yet to see a place that matches the majesty of Homer, Alaska.
Be sure to take a trip across the bay if you come all this way. It's really a wonderful experience.
Ailsa or Tyson Hall purchased this cottage in 2006
Ever since I was 13, it has been a dream of mine to own a piece of Homer. That dream came true in 2006! We were able to grab a great in-town lot with a wonderful view of Kachemak Bay! We built the cottage the same year we bought the land. We feel truly blessed!
The reason we got into Vacation Rentals is because we have stayed in many ourselves and like the idea of staying in a private home instead of a noisy, crowded hotel. As a result of those visits at various rentals across the nation, we came up with four very important qualities that we look for when booking a Vacation Rental and incorporated them into ours. They are, 1) The lodging must be private, 2) It must be close to the town you are visiting, 3) It must have a HOT-TUB!!, 4) If applicable, it must have a view.
We have all four!! We are only two miles from lovely Homer, on almost one and a half private acres, with a great view that you can soak in while in the wonderful hot-tub!
We are proud of our cozy little cottage in Homer and are so confident that it will exceed your expectations and serve to be the retreat you need after coming all this way.
I can't imagine a vrbo more perfect for us than Little Fireweed Cottage. The owners were very easy to work with from start to finish.
We are two couples in their 50s & 60s. One has some physical impairments, so our only suggestion would be grab-bars and non-slip decals for the bathtub. She did take a tumble during our stay.
This was an ideal vacation spot ... close to everything, yet private. No traffic noise. There were adjoining properties, but the most we saw or heard were "children" noises from down the hill, and only during the day. Very faint, no problem. Wildflower, native grass "lawn," just like we have at our lakehouse in northern Wisconsin. We had moose in the yard, nearly every night. I suspect there aren't bears in the area, as the garbage bin at the end of the driveway went undisturbed.
We were less than a half-mile from the Down East Saloon and liquor store. Check out open-mic night. FUN! Got some pointers while there, on where to dine in Anchorage on our way home.
Only a mile or two from the Old Town Area and entrance to the spit.
From the deck, the view includes a bit of Beluga Lake, the Homer airport, the bay and the mountains! Imagine sitting in the hot tub at the end of the day with a glass of wine, watching the everchanging lightshow on the distant peaks ...
Close to the museums, nature trails, the Bear Creek Winery and a paved walk that runs to Old Town.
New washer/dryer was nice to have. Ample towel supply, great bedding, comfortable mattresses, especially if you like them on the softer side. They've added room-darkening shades in the bedrooms. Adequate storage. Nice supply of 'left-behind' spices, dishware, utensils and cooking supplies ... even Panko for our halibut and salmon. Could use more kitchen storage containers like Rubbermaid.
Clean, comfortable, close to everything, private and a hot tub. What more could you ask for? Perhaps the perfect weather (no rain) we had, and no mosquitoes. The only "skeeters" we saw were on the trails at the Wynn Nature Center.
Don't forget to take a sidetrip up Skyline Drive ... what a view.
We rented the Cottage for eight days. Ten would have been perfect. So I guess we must return, eh? If we ever return to Alaska for a third vacation, we'd pick the Cottage again. Homer was a great town, from walking on the beach, museums, restaurants (including Hobo Jim's show at AJ's Old Towne Steakhouse), nature trails, the dock-creatures tour for $5, several visits to Salty Dog, boat excursions, etc.
We enjoyed our stay at the cabin with great views and amenities. The lodging had all the extras provided. For lower 48ers, we recommend blackout shades for the bedroom- it would help for a good sleep experience. This is a place we would come back to.
Excellent views from the house and hot tub. We felt right at home. Way better then staying at a hotel.
My husband and I just went to Little Fireweed Cottage for our first anniversary. It was such a great place to stay for our weekend getaway. It had everything we needed plus more! The best part was the hot tub with it's amazing mountain view. The price was reasonable too considering everything that was in the cottage and it was the beginning of tourist season. When we go back to visit Homer, we will definitely come stay here again! You won't find anything better!
Awesome stay! Quick drive to the spit. Owners go out of their way to ensure your stay is top knotch. Will stay here again on my next trip to Homer.
Staying at the Little Fireweed Cottage was our final stay on a 12 day Alaska trip and it was our favorite stay by far. I was traveling with 3 others and we all were surprised at how nice this place was. There was enough space to make us all feel comfortable. The cottage was well-maintained and clean. The beds were comfortable. The hot tub and view were absolutely awesome. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in Homer!
