El Portil Villa Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, sleeps up to 8.

An established, spacious, nicely furnished villa that sleeps 6-8 people. The villa has its own private, secluded swimming pool (8 X 4 metres) which is open all year. A sunbathing area around the pool that has the sun all day. There is a courtyard area with BBQ and seating under a wooden gazebo, a lovely place to enjoy your lunch or for evening entertaining. The front veranda is a quiet place to sit and watch the sun go down. We are not one of the townhouses, so you will enjoy your own privacy and peace!

The villa is a 10 min stroll to the beach, local shops, tapas bars and restaurants. Prices reflect local the Spanish population and expect to pay 1.20 euro for a glass of wine.

El Portil is on the Costa de la Luz in the region of Huelva. It is also known as the Spanish Algarve. It is an area with stunningly clean, golden beaches, backed with pine trees and faces the Atlantic. Golf courses nearby include Neuvo Portil, El Rompido (Daily Mail has an international finals played there each year!), Islantilla and Bellavista golf club (see golf details).

Airports: Faro airport (Portugal): 1 hour drive on a good, almost empty motorway. Faro is served by main airline carriers. Taxi 90 euro or there is a coach service.

Seville airport: Just over 1 hour drive on a motorway, the road is busier, as driving around the city. It is possible to get a train or bus from Seville to Huelva.

Jerez airport: 1and 1/2 hour drive, eg Ryan Air

An airport pick up from Seville or Faro would be about 120 Euros. Please enquire for a taxi firm.

Lisbon airport (Portugal): 4 hour drive.

Malaga airport: 3 and 1/2 hour

Car hire is recommended and can be arranged through a variety of companies. There is no problem hiring a car in Portugal and driving over into Spain. Some companies may charge a supplement. There is no border crossing. We recommend

you book car hire in advance, particularly for July and August.

Please contact us for further info.

Surrounding area and things to do: Within walking distance: Stunning walks along the beach where you can stop, have a drink and watch the sun go down, children play areas also; The El Portil Lagoon, a wildlife and nature reserve with walkway and viewpoints around it.

5 minute drive: El Rompido a pretty fishing village and Punta Umbria a lively town both have great fish restaurants.

25 minute drive: Portugal and the attractive border towns of Ayamonte and Villa Real; Visit the monastery and museum at La Rabida to see where the Christopher Columbus set sail.

I hour drive: Seville with its extraordinary charm, history and artistic richness (regular train and bus service from Huelva); The hills of Sierra de Aracena, villages like Jabugo famous for its ham;; El Rocio, a religious village with a surreal western feel, as the village streets are sanded and its residents use horseback for transportation. The El Rocío pilgrimage is the most famous in the region, attracting nearly a million people from across Andalucia and the entire country, and beyond.. It is also the gateway to The Donana National Park, Spain's largest wildlife reserve, world class wetland site for migrating birds. The Rio Tinto mines about 45 min drive.

There is a sports arena close by with tennis, football pitches and basketball. You can hire bikes and there are many cycle paths along the beach.

There is a go karting tract and waterpark just outside el rompido. Also horse riding centres.

Golf: The villa is next to Nuevo Portil Golf Course so just a few minutes drive to the entrance (a bit far to walk to clubhouse!). Interesting course interwoven through villas & houses. Variety of holes long par 5's, short par 3's some hitting towards the sea. A nice course to play if you want a 'quick 9 holes'.

5 minute drive - El Rompido, a stunning 36 hole course with magnificent views over the Atlantic (It is the venue for the Mail on Sunday classic finals) Some have described some 'impossible holes'. Course guide recommended and lots of balls!

Nearby 15 minutes is Bellavista GC, which is a parkland course and La Moncilla( designed by José María Olazábal) a spectacular new course, well worth a visit.

30 minute drive - Islantilla GC which is a well established course with an excellent reputation for its 27 hole course, and Costa Esuri near the border.

In Portugal - Castro Marim GC a stunning course with great views just over the border, it's a must play course.

About Mr & Mrs Smith

We would like to offer you a great relaxing holiday in the sun that is value for money and hassle free. We aim to answer any enquiries promptly and honestly, and help answer any other questions you may have.

Mr & Mrs Smith purchased this villa in 2003

Why Mr & Mrs Smith chose El Portil

We wanted somewhere close to an airport and a short walk to the beach. We had visited various areas in Spain but when came across this area we knew this was the place. It is different from the other Costas, and you soon realise why the spanish visit here, as it is beautiful! The price of food and drink has not increased and neither are they inflated for tourists. We wanted a house that had a swimming pool and had a large outside space. We looked at the town houses but preferred a private villa to the townhouses as they can be very noisy, in the summer and little private outdoor space, they also have a number of restrictions. Our house offers great privacy and space to enjoy the sunshine.

What makes this villa unique

The spacious private garden and your own private swimming pool

Quiet and safe and a short walk to the beach. The real Spanish feel to the area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Clean, spacious, great location.

We stayed at Villa Christina for 2 weeks and enjoyed every minute. The walks are great around the town and on the miles of sandy beach. The local restaurants are very friendly and generous with tapas and drinks. The garden and pool are very private and quiet. Thought we saw a hummingbird in the garden but found out it was a hummingbird moth. It's well maintained and very clean. Everything works smoothly. We bought local fish from Mercadona and used the bbq and sat on the naya. There is a great golf course near by and several interesting towns with shopping a restaurants. Seville is beautiful and only an hour away.

Owner's Response: We are delighted you enjoyed your stay!! I will have to look out for the 'humming moth', we often get comments about the variety of birds, and how people enjoy sitting in the garden watching them but never the moths!! Appreciate your feedback. thanks

A great holiday had by all!

Our family of four, which includes two teenagers, had a relaxing but fun, very Spanish holiday. The villa had everything we needed, including very useful guidebooks and extra equipment to take to the beach. We walked to the beach, tapas bars, crazy golf and supermarkets. The land train is recommended especially on a Friday night when the Spanish start their weekend! We had several trips out in our hire car, one of which to the beautiful city of Seville. The owners were very helpful in answering our initial queries and all the arrangements went very smoothly. We hope to return in the future and would definitely recommend Villa Christina to friends and family.

Gepflegtes Objekt, schöne Lage, gute Betreuung

  • 5 of 5

Fazit: gerne wieder!

Christmas Cracker!

  • 5 of 5

What a superb way to spend Christmas and New Year away from the drab British winter and the hassles of the festive period! Instead we found ourselves in our very own small part of Spain, with glorious warm winter sunshine (Yes we were in shorts and t-shirt every day) staying in a truly gorgeous large, spacious, very well equipped villa. Such a good decision of ours to escape. We had a great time.

The villa cant be faulted. Its spacious rooms are equipped to a high standard, with lovely well maintained gardens, BBQ patio and pool. Yes, we had a few BBQ in the late evening winter sun, but no didn't use the pool! The owners were very helpful and friendly, happy to give advice on where to go etc.

Situated within walking distance of the numerous restaurants and beach, it gave us the opportunity to try the local tapas bars and locally caught fish, all at very reasonable prices, as often as we wanted. Seville is within driving distance aswell as the Tinto mines-both worth a day trip to.

We loved the beach, miles of glorious sand and don't be fooled, it might be winter but it was still sunny and very warm! We have such fond memories of spending New Years Day on the beach chilling at ne of the friendly beach bar restaurants...just perfect! It was definitely a Christmas not to forget.

My family which included my daughters their hubbies and my grandson spent a glorious week at the villa. It was equipped to a very high standard and my family loved the pool. It was spotlessly clean upon our arrival and loved that the pool cleaner/handiman popped in every other day to ensure that everything was ok. It is in walking distance to the beach and restaurants and shops.. The resort was a dream and I loved the fact that there were mainly Spanish hoiidaying here which reflected in the fabulous tapas and general certainly tested my knowledge of Spanish but it just added to the fun. Sevilla was only an hour away as was Portugal so plenty of opportunitites for days out if required. Would I return to this lovely part of Andalucia and this fab Villa?....ABSOLUTELY!

Lovely villa close to beautiful uncrowded beaches

  • 5 of 5

The villa was well described and spotlessly clean. The swimming pool was a delight and both the house and the garden/pool area fitted out to a high standard. The local beaches are wonderful, safe, clean and uncrowded with lots of small bars and places to eat dotted along the coast. Local area typically spanish with plenty of opportunity to practice your spanish when shopping or ordering food/drinks! Both Faro and Seville airports one hour away and roads were not busy.

Villa owners very helpful. Would definetly recommend this villa to family and friends.
