Photos and Description of the Belfast vacation cottage rental Three bedrooms, two full bathrooms. Sleeps eight comfortably.

Modeled after an authentic, turn of the century village depot, Payson Hill Station is family friendly, fun and comfortable. This 2-for-1 retreat features a classic porch cottage and a lovingly restored Maine Central railroad caboose (circa 1917). Inspired by traditional Maine vacation camps, the cottage features a lovely raised brick hearth, country furniture and wide plank floors. Casting a warm glow over a rough-sawn pine interior, the fireplace serves as a hub for all activities with connections to a generous sleeping area, dining area and porches. A cozy sleeping loft covers a third of the great room with a bathroom and reading area tucked underneath. Floor to ceiling windows flank either side of the fireplace, flooding the interior with light while providing a panoramic view of the trout pond and woodlands beyond. Pass through french doors and relax on a spacious 16'x32' observation deck. The caboose boasts a modern, fully equipped kitchen, four twin beds and a second bathroom.

Frogs croak, chipmunks scold and horses whinny! The birch-shaded dam behind the cottage and caboose backs up enough water to maintain a cool swimming hole and is home to rainbow trout, croakin' frogs, turtles and one busy beaver! Cross the brook and take a long, peaceful walk through fifteen acres of private forest. Gather wildflowers, pick berries, bird-watch... one guest recorded 30 species in just 24 hours! Look for wildlife... deer, turkey, beaver, otter, porcupine, partridge, snowshoe hare; even an occasional flying squirrel or lonely moose have been spotted by our guests. Upon your return, relax on our huge sun deck or swing away in a hammock under the pines. The fun is just beginning at sunset! Build yourself a crackling campfire... roast wieners, toast marshmallows, have a rousing sing-a-long. Weather permitting, treat yourself to a free light show - star gazing is unsurpassed here! Enjoy the childhood thrill of chasing fireflys as thousands sparkle all around you.

We are located in the scenic farm community of Knox, Maine and only minutes away from coastal Belfast and Penobscot Bay, the Frye Mountain Wildlife Management Area and beautiful Lake St. George. Ski, snow tube and toboggan at Camden Snow Bowl approximately 35 minutes travel time. Play golf at Country View Golf Course, only 15 minutes by scenic country roads.

This is truly a Special Place!: Meet 'Priscilla' & 'John' our comical Pilgrim Geese. We'll give you $5.00 if they don't 'HONK!' when we first introduce them to you - don't count on it though, they haven't failed yet! We also have a handsome flock of barnyard chickens - you're always welcome to join us at feeding time or to gather eggs. A healthy variety of delicious, farm fresh produce is grown here in season; high bush blueberries, apples, snow peas, tomatoes, peppers, squash, corn and pumpkins. Rainy day? No Problem!!!: Not to dwell on the negative, but hey... not every day is a Sunny day! For your enjoyment, the Depot is stocked with a variety of good books and magazines to read, board games (checkers anyone?), cards, a cribbage board and the free use of videotapes, DVD player and Direct TV. While relaxing indoors on a cool or rainy day, why not take off the chill with a cozy fire?

Ski: The Camden Snow Bowl really is where the 'mountains meet the sea'! From the summit of 1300' Ragged Mountain, home to the Snow Bowl's trails, skiers and riders have an incredible view of the Atlantic Ocean. It is a view unlike any other in the East. In addition to Alpine skiing and snowboarding, there are many other winter activities available at the Snow Bowl... snow tubing, ice skating and snowshoeing, to name a few.

Golf: Country View Golf Club is famous throughout Maine and New England as one of the most scenic golf courses in the United States. Located just a few miles from our farm, this gorgeous country club is located on top of the highest hill in Brooks. On a clear day you can see the Camden Hills, the White Mountains of New Hampshire and Mount Cadillac in Maine's famous Acadia National Park. As breathtaking as the distant views is the scenery on the golf courses itself, which includes hundreds of trees, numerous gardens and ponds, and endless manicured fairways and greens. You don't have to be a golfer to appreciate the beauty of this magnificent place... rent a set of clubs and experience it for yourself!

Great for a large family!

Amy&Tony Maine
Review Submitted: August 3, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
We just spent a wonderful week with our five boys in the Caboose and Depot at Payson Hill Farm. Our older four loved sleeping by themselves in the bunks of the Caboose, while we spent calm nights in the depot with our littlest one asleep in the loft above. The boys had great fun on the hammock, swings, feeding bread to the fish in the trout pond, eating s'mores around the campfire, and spending time with Becky and Jenny doing chores!

Our large family was welcomed with open arms. We have done a fair amount of traveling and we know a good place when we find one! Our kids are fairly well behaved, but we still look for places that I'm not always on edge, worried that someone will turn around and break something. This place is built well for an active family: clean, pleasant, interesting and sturdy. Also, Jim generously provided campfire wood and the girls delicious pies! We were able to take advantage of the special $200. gas card, which was of great!! value to us. We traveled to Rockport and Bath without a dint in our budget.

I highly recommend Payson Hill Station for large families. There are trails to walk on, chores to help with, a big yard to play in, and Becky and Jenny even led some of the boys around on their horses, which delighted them to no end! Also, take advantage of the great game store in Belfast: All About Games. We spent several cozy evenings in the depot pitting our skill against one another.

For me, however, the best testimony of our time came on the last day when each one of our sons (who range from 7 to 18) commented on how sad they were to leave. Our 7 and 11 year olds wanted to come back to visit Jenny and Becky, our 16 year old went around shooting video to remember the Caboose. Even without the video, we had such a nice vacation at Payson Hill that we won't be able to forget. Thank you Jim and Cherryl for your hospitality--and of course Becky and Jenny for all the time you spent with the boys!

Wonderful Vacation Spot!

Matt and Lisa Lowell, IN
Review Submitted: November 12, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We had the most relaxing wonderful vacation at Payson Hill Farm. Jim and his family made us feel so comfortable and after our long drive. The view is spectacular and the depot and caboose are immaculate.
We took several day trips with the gas card we were given and there are several towns within short distance.

Our girls loved making cider and checking for eggs. We left the day before Halloween and Jim sent us home with 2 pumpkins, one less thing I had to worry about.

We are planning on going back next summer for another week. Just a fantastic vacation.

Fun, Relaxing Vacation

Lindy L Boston, MA
Review Submitted: August 11, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We loved the Caboose! At the beginning of the week my husband and I were looking for a relaxing Maine house where we could get some quiet time and enjoy being away from the city. The house and caboose were just what we needed! The house is beautifully done, with a great wrap-around porch and impeccably decorated house. It is comfortable and cozy - we loved making dinner each night. The second half of the vacation we brought my brother and sister in law and their two kids -- and it was almost a new vacation. The girls loved the farm - the chickens, horses and bunnies. We played a couple rounds of nerf baseball and couldn't get the girls off the swings. We had a wonderful time and cannot thank Jim and his family enough. Thanks for being so hospitable and friendly - what a lovely home you guys have!

Perfect and relaxing, a true Maine experience!

Donald C. Waterford, PA
Review Submitted: June 19, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
The lodging-The owners and their family at Payson Hill Farm made this vacation for my family and me truly perfect! Their integrity and love for this farm is quite evident in every detail! The pictures don't quite do the depot or the property justice! Impeccably maintained, well appointed, truly charming. The depot was warm, cozy and so relaxing. We were welcomed warmly and graciously. That warm homemade apple pie the girls made for us was a vacation in itself!

Recommendations-I would recommend Payson Hill Farm to everyone. The owners are charming, respectful and honest. It was a great value for a family of five. Everyone had privacy. We felt right at home and miss it already.

A wonderful Maine vacation location

Review Submitted: September 9, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
My family and I just spent an amazing week at Payson Hill Farms. From the accomodations to the incredible hospitality, it was more than we ever expected.

The set-up of the caboose and depot worked really well for our family. The location on the farm is private and perfect. There aren't superlatives to describe the hospitality. The scenery and outdoor activities Maine offers are just off the front step.

I heartily recommend and encourage you to consider Payson Hill farms for your next vacation. I'm confident you and your family will have a great time as well.
