In 5-10 minutes you can find civilization again. The quaint little town of Honoka'a has many unique shops, family owned restaurants, art galleries, and antiques. In a 15 minute drive you can be at the Waipio Look Out. An awesome view to the valley below, where the locals still farm Taro as their ancestors did long ago. Guided tours consist of hikng, 4-wheel drive vans, ATV's, or horseback. Once in the valley you will find black sand beach, surfing, fishing, horseback riding, or horse and buggy. Waipio is a very sacred place, known to many as The Valley of the Kings. A 20 minute drive from the cottage will put you in Waimea, Paniolo (cowboy) Country, where you will find historical sites, shopping, and restaurants, and on the way, there is a golf course. 20 minutes from Waimea, you will reach the beaches on the west side of the island, sunbathe, surf, snorkel, kayak, whale watching, sunset cruises. You will also find big hotels with fine dining and fine shops.
