Hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, ocean swimming for the brave and lake swimming for the rest of us! Visit the fabulous new Abbe Museum in Bar Harbor or the Natural History Museum at the College of the Atlantic. Take in the beautiful Thuya and Asticou Gardens. Go whale watching, take a day trip to the Cranberry Isles or Swans Island, or a nature cruise on Somes Sound, the east coast's only fjord. Eat the world's best lobster at the local lobster pounds or dine at one of the island's exquisite gourmet restaurants. Get around on the free, environmentally friendly propane buses - a wonderful way to see the sights. End your day with a picnic and the sunset on the top of Cadillac Mountain. Next day? Go shopping. There really is something for everyone!

  • We will continue to offer a 'RECESSION DISCOUNT' of $100 per week in 2010! Book Now!
  • We rent from Saturday to Saturday with a one week minimum stay. Check-in 3:00 PM, check-out 10:00 AM promptly.

    We offer discounts for multiple weeks (above 2). Please ask us about your individual circumstances.

    There is a 7% Maine state sales tax. We charge a $400 Security Deposit to be returned promptly once charges, if any, have been deducted.

    An additional $100/week will be charged for one or two (maximum) dogs and the security deposit will be $600 rather than $400.
  • We reserve the right to discontinue our 'Recession Discount' policy without notice. All signed leases in effect at that time will be honored at the discounted rate.

Notes: 1 queen, 1 double, 2 twins. High speed wireless internet connection. Outdoor dining table seats 6. Laundry Room has washer/dryer/iron/ironing board. Some books, games, puzzles and a small selection of videos are provided. It is our intention to provide small quantities of supplies such as toilet paper, tissues, paper towels, soap, coffee filters, some basic cleaning supplies, etc. - enough so that you don't have to run to the store the minute you arrive. If these items last for your entire stay, great! If you need to stock up, there are many shopping options close by.

The first floor has a fully equipped galley kitchen, a dining area that seats six and a comfortable living room with wonderful view and access to the deck. There is a full bath with a Jacuzzi tub and shower, a laundry room and two bedrooms, one with a double bed and access to the deck and the other with two twin beds and a wooded view.

The second floor has a very large sitting room with access to the balcony, the master bedroom with a queen bed and a reading alcove, and two full bathrooms, one with tub only and one with shower only.

There are only two steps up to the back porch and one additional step into the house and all the doors are 36 inches wide, making it possible that a person in a wheel chair, once helped into the house, could maneuver quite well on the first floor. All floors are carpeted.

This cottage was so clean I was afraid to use anything! It came equipped with everything you could possibly need for a great vacation -- in the kitchen, the baths, and even had some puzzles for those rainy days. Overall, a very quiet location, but the road is not the best for walking a dog. No sidewalk or even a shoulder to walk along. Traffic goes much too quickly even though its posted as low speed. But there was a huge yard to run around in. Just outside of Bass Harbor and Southwest Harbor -- those towns were very quaint and had all the shops and restaurants you could want. We'd love to come back again.

First off let me say this is one of the nicest rentals we have had - and we have had very many, on quite a few continents! I would not hesitate to recommend it to friends and we would readily return ourselves.

We were a family of 5 plus dog, including a 10 year old, an 8 year old and a 74 year old grandmother. The layout was perfect with more than enough space (plus great bathrooms - very NB) for everyone, and a generous front yard for kids & dog to run around in. The description was accurate and we were provided with very clear directions and lots of useful information.

The house is well maintained and attractively furnished, and the owners are very personable and friendly, doing all they can to ensure a positive and enjoyable experience. Added touches like a welcoming bottle of wine with personal note, plus an email prior to our departure recommending an alternative route, all make a great impression for a welcoming and comfortable stay. I even had some items I'd left at the house very promptly posted back to me.

We especially chose the location for it's more open aspect (didn't want to be hemmed in by tall trees and no view) and preferred to stay on the quieter side of the island. Having said that, it didn't take very long to get to Bar Harbor and all it's attractions and you are never very far from a scenic drive or charming harbor. Great walks and hiking abound all over the island and the house is well situated for swimming at Echo lake. Our evening meals were spent at the house, but we did enjoy the breakfasts & coffee at Eat a Pita & Cafe 2 in Southwest Harbor. Great stay!

Beautiful Mallard Cottage

This was my family's first experience renting a home. Before now, the 5 of us would cram into a hotel room. Staying at Mallard Cottage was the BEST decision we ever made! The house is absolutely beautiful, impeccably clean, and extremely well-organized. We totally enjoyed star-gazing from the decks at night, spreading out in the living room to play games and watch TV, and having 3 bathrooms to choose from. The kids had a ball playing in the over-sized yard. Everything about this house made it a total pleasure to stay there.
