Review of Thistle Dune Cottage
The cottage is in a really quiet neighborhood on lake michigan. You walk down the hill from the cottage to the beach access. The beach is pretty narrow at the closest beach access, but there is another one where it is a bit deeper. The property was very clean and well keep up. The kitchen is modern and very well set up for cooking with a gas grill on the porch and a fire ring in the yard. There are TV's with cable service in all bedrooms and living room. Its a great property
The views from the cottage are amazing and a highlight is the dramatic sunsets over Lake Michigan. In this neighborhood your cell phones don't work at all, so you need to have a phone credit card or you are unreachable unless you drive near the freeway, a 15 minute drive. The unplugged aspect was really very nice. In the area there huge dunes to climb and charming towns with great resturants to explore such as Pentwater. And kitchy beach towns like Silver lake with miny golf, ice cream shacks, go carts and bumper boats. There are many very inexpensive but nice golf course near by too.
The stairs are quite numerous and steep, which makes it not great for toddlers and the eldery. We stayed there with our 2 teenage sons and they really enjoyed the area and the property.
Once I paid the rent for the week it was one of the cheapest vacations ever because all close by restuarants are inexpensive and its nice to just hang out on the porch, grill out, walk on the beach, go to the nearby farmer's markets for the best pies ever, etc.
