LONG LAKE WATERFRONT HOME

Traverse City House Rental Photos and Description

Beautiful two bedroom waterfront home on a clear Michigan lake

Loon Lodge is a secluded lakefront home just minutes from the bustle of Traverse City. It is perfect for families and for people looking to get away and relax.

The house is right on beautiful Long Lake, one of Northern Michigan's most popular lakes for fishing, swimming and boating with crystal clear water. The house has a dock and a large deck looking over the water. The house is secluded; the nearest neighbor is more than one hundred yards away, hidden by the trees. The property has more than 200 feet on the water.

The house features two bedrooms and two bathrooms. There are two queen beds, two single beds and two day beds. The living room is large and spacious, with a cathedral ceiling. The eat-in kitchen is fully equipped. The house has hardwood floors throughout. Outside there is a new gas grill and firepit.

There is a canoe and row boat for your use, along with paddles and life jackets. You can also bring a boat; we provide a mooring and there is a boat launch across the lake. There are public tennis courts within walking distance. There are also islands in the lake that you can explore, many with lovely beaches.

The area has much to offer. The house is fifteen minutes from Traverse City, a lively and pretty town with shopping and festivals. Interlochen Music Camp, the Sleeping Bear Dunes, the Platte River, and Michigan's finest wine country are all close by.

Some comments from recent guests:

'This is the fifth year in a row that my family has rented a cabin. Each year we pick a different Michigan location. Everyone agreed that this was the best cabin ever. It was perfect.'

'Had a great time!!! Caught 17 walleye, 3 nice pike and the largest smallmouth bass I've ever caught. Great drives every day, awesome campfires and just all in all...a great time.'

About Tim Calkins

We purchased the property more than a decade ago and have been renting it since then. Our family has owned property and vacationed on Long Lake for more than eighty years. We own and preserve the nearby woods. Loon Lodge is a special retreat in the woods.

Tim Calkins purchased this house in 2000

Why Tim Calkins chose Traverse City

Traverse City is a wonderful vacation area. There are all sorts of things to do in the area, though we often just want to spend our days enjoying the lake.

What makes this house unique

Our home has three very special features.

First, it is right on Long Lake, a spectacular northern Michigan lake. The water is clear and the sunsets are beautiful. The lake is great for swimming and boating.

Second, the house is very private. It is nestled in deep woods on a huge lot with lots of lakefront.

Third, the house is near Traverse City, so while it feels like you are really away from it all in the deep Michigan woods, you can get to a store quickly if you run out of flour or want to go to a movie.

Fantastic! HIGHLY recommend this nature haven.

Booking was very easy through VRBO and paypal. Tim was very quick to respond.

The driving directions provided by Tim were fantastic….use those.
It was fun to drive through the long, winding, tree lined road to the house.

I couldn't get the door open….my husband had to do it each time :)

The house was spotless.
There were some supplies left for us~ pump soap, toilet paper, paper towels, bar soap.
We slept in the 2 bigger beds. We used the daybeds to lay on during the day.
We only used the shower/bath during the week. The water pressure was good and stayed hot for 3 quick showers in a row…the 4th was iffy. :)
We didn't cook while there….but the fridge and microwave worked well.
We never turned the tv on.
The internet connection worked at all times, except during a thunderstorm.
We used the washer a few times during the week ….had to wash the towels we brought from home and some random clothes. it worked well.
We used the dryer a little bit more due to drying our wet swimming stuff.

We swam off the pier on a few occasions and did end up with the lake itch that Tim informs you about. The kids were 100% w/o any red bumps within 6 hours of getting out of the water. They were just super itchy for those hours. We always got out of the water and washed off in the tub with soap. If they were super itchy, we used benadryl cream. My husband got it the worst and is at home with at least 10 bumps on his legs still.
The water was super clean. Only saw fish at night and they were tiny.

The windows are temperamental at moments. I learned which ones would fall off of their track when winding back in. I had hubby help push those closed from outside daily. Only a few windows have window treatments. It took me a minute to get used to it at night.

The fire pit and patio were perfect at night.

We never used the heat or indoor fireplace.

We HIGHLY recommend staying here and hope to stay here again in the future.
The house was perfect for us. I know your family will love it as much as we did.

Owner's Response: Great to hear you had a good stay at Loon Lodge! One note: we are getting new window treatments in the bedrooms this fall. I hope you can make it back for another trip to Long Lake sometime soon.

Had a wonderful time

  • 5 of 5
Our family of four and family dog spent a wonderful week at Loon Lodge. The house is very secluded in the woods and sits right on the lake. The house is spacious for all of us. The wifi worked really well that our teenage son was able to play his online game during the evenings. We also appreciated all the extras provided in the house such as hand soap and cling wraps (very thoughtful).

The information folder on the coffee table was very helpful. We went to many day trips following the instructions and had a lot of fun. We really like the water front in downtown Traverse City and walked our dog on several visits. Would love to return perhaps to see the fall color.

Loon Lodge Love

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I rented this cabin with another couple (along with our respective dogs). Loon Lodge provided the perfect experience for us. I have traveled to Northern Michigan every summer since my days as an Interlochen camper but this was my first experience on Long Lake. It is a very clear and beautiful lake and the cabin provides an excellent viewpoint for the most picturesque sunsets. The cabin is rustic and charming and set quite deep into the woods and away from the main road. This was important to us so that the dogs could enjoy their vacation too! Although the fishing wasn't as fruitful as my husband had hoped, we did enjoy everything else about this rental.

2 thumbs up

  • 4 of 5
Driving down the gravel and dirt path to a secluded house was the best. We wanted some privacy and it fit the bill. The house was spacious and homey. We had dinner on the deck overlooking the lake numerous times. Most nights ended w/ a camp fire and s'mores. Canoe and row boat was fun although we still slipped on the ramp even though the warnings were clear.

There is too much to do in a week!

You can swim in the clear waters of Long Lake, lay in the sun, paddle around the lake (canoe and row boat provided) and hike. There are five islands in Long Lake; they are all public and perfect for exploring and picnics. Long Lake has great fishing, too.

Northern Michigan is full of attractions: the Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City, the Platte and Boardman Rivers, wineries, bike trails, Leland (a cute fishing village), hiking. It is a wonderful area.
