Goldielocks never had it so good

Grampa True Providence, Rhode Island, USA
Review Submitted: May 8, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2008
I cannot imagine a more peaceful/relaxing vacation spot than Bear’s Den. I was relieved after a long day’s drive to find our destination to be a picture out of a fairy tale book. The cabin, besides appointments rivaling the best B&Bs, is decorated with bear statues, pottery and pictures. Our grand children, who we had come to visit, were delighted, and made a game of counting all the different references to bears there were.
We were also delighted with how the cabin had an initial supply of many items not always available in a rental, such as sugar, spices and condiments.
Although Toddy Pond is situated in a very active part of the Maine coast, on the Blue Hill Peninsula and near Acadia National Park, the pond is peaceful and low key. We got in the habit of paddling our kayaks in the morning and happened on large numbers of loons “rafting”. We had many eagle and osprey sightings as well. In the evenings we took out the provided canoe to observe the sunsets.
The owners provided brochures and made recommendations that gave us an endless amount of activities to enjoy when we weren’t with family. We plan to return, if not to continue exploring the area that is rich in the arts and recreational opportunities, then to again drift off to sleep with the loons’ enchanting calls echoing off the water.

Cabin in the woods.

Cabin Guy Falmouth, Maine
Review Submitted: October 7, 2008 Date of Stay: June 2007
We had the pleasure of staying here in June of 07 and are making plans of going back this June. What a sweet romantic get away this was for us. Lots of Quite yet a 15 min. drive to beautiful Blue Hill. Thye place was so clean we couldn't believe it having stayed at other cabine where we thought we camping out side. The lake is Just great and the "fishing" is to. We meet both owners Tom & Bonnie both very nice folks. If you want privacy and a romantic place to stay you just found it.. :-)
Owner's Response: Whether folks come to relax or hike, swim or fish, the Bear's Den works for them. Some come alone or as a couple. Others bring kids to enjoy the trip back in time. We've had more than one reunion here as well. So come, kick back and enjoy! So much to do in the area, too.

Maine woods retreat

Sabrina and Jed Rochester, New York
Review Submitted: August 30, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Pleased to report another great year at Bear's den. This beautiful new log A frame nestled in the woods on Toddy Pond (really a small lake) is a wonderful sanctuary. The homes comes with a canoe and the use of a swimming float (about 8 feet square, our four person family comfortably spent several days just hanging and swimming from it). The bend in the pond where the house is located is a loon breeding area and for the second year we have had close up views of loon parents teaching a young to swim under water and fish. The pond is great as it has surprisingly little human traffic, even on the nicest of August weekend days. Our family enjoys the house for the peace, the gas stove for the mornings, the dirt roads which are excellent for runs or walks. It is also a great spot from which to access the Blue Hill area- including Acadia and Deer isle. Finally, an excellent host makes for an all around lovely stay.

Nice house, walk to toddy pond

Karrot NYC
Review Submitted: August 19, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
The house was immaculate, but those who have children should know that the stairs are very noisy! Other than that, very pleasant, but not on Toddy pond! Across the street- only a little ways, but I had thought it was lake front, which was a little misleading in the ad.
Owner was right across the street and helpful with directions, etc. Very nice. You must have a car. Beautiful area!
Owner's Response: This nice couple from NY did not bring children. The cabin is on over 20 acres with 1000 feet of water front. The area directly in front of the cabin is fine for canoe or kayak, but the better swimming is a very short walk up a driveway. The swimming area has a boardwalk, a little screen house, a gorgeous view of Great Pond Mountain, lounging chairs, table and a nice new float to swim to and jump from. The cabin has a nice filtered view of the Lake through pines. In compliance with environmental laws for new structures, it is about 200 feet from the water's edge.

Quiet and lovely little cabin in the woods

SFphotos San Francisco, CA
Review Submitted: August 18, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2007
This is a newer cabin done with nostalgia in mind. The owners have designed things very well and it makes for a pleasant and relaxing stay. The lack of anything (like TV or other luxuries) makes the stay that much more enjoyable. The owners were extremely nice and helpful.

The dirt road down to the cabin winds through the woods and is seldom traveled. It is perfect for biking or running and I didn't notice any "aggressive dogs" that were mentioned in an earlier review here.

The lake is great for canoeing and boating. The light here is beautiful and sunrise and sunset are fantastic times for taking photos. Blue Hill has the perfect balance of shopping, night life, scenery, and history for a quaint little coastal town.
Owner's Response: So many folks comment on "nostalgia" at our cabin. We are pleased to help create new memories for their children.

Our cabin is on a very quiet, private gravel Dead-End road. Most of the folks who vacation down here on Toddy are wonderful, considerate folks. People come and go to other cottages with their dogs and there is the occational barker. A gentle request to the owners usually puts any distubance to rest.

Yes, the lighting here is legendary. Photographers and artists love it here.
