Have a large family? Rent the Whale of a View and the Sea Urchin next door! Both cottages are private and located on their own private 3 acres. They are connected by a trail along the shore through the woods. Also available for rental is a charming two-room cabin nestled in the woods between the Sea Urchin and the Whale of a View.
My husband and I have stayed on Campobello for several years but never at any of the Haires properties and this stay was by far the best! Dennis responded quickly to our emails and answered all our questions about our stay. On our arrival we found the cottage to be as described and more. It was very clean and so well stocked! Nothing was missing! The view is a"whale of a view". The pictures don't do it justice! We spent many hours enjoying the magnificent view! The cottage had everything, from games to blankets to curl up in. We appreciated all the seaglass books and historical books. It was a bit cool during our stay but we were snug at the cottage. We were able to see the other two properties and in the future we will definitely rent one of them! You won't go wrong renting from Dennis. It was a real pleasure working with them and we thank him for sharing this slice of heaven with us! We will return! You will love watching the seals, porpoise,Eagles and I am sure whales in season!
Just what we wanted. A simple relaxing getaway.. The view was amazing and we did see whales. We would definitely return. Weather in June is iffy but it didn't matter.
We have rented both Whale of a View and also the Periwinkle Cottage from Dennis Haire. He is wonderful to deal with, the cabins are very functional and well turned out. There is basically everything you need here. Most importantly, this is one of the singularly most beautiful locations you will ever see. Whales, seals, eagles, and the beauty of Roosevelt Campobello International Park. The local caretaking is excellent and pleasant to work with. I cannot say enough good about dealing with these folks. We have enjoyed every minute of every vacation we've taken to Dennis' properties.
We stayed at the Perriwinkle Cottage adjacent to the cottage displayed, owned by the same. It was more than I could have asked for! So much more than I can write in this review. Highlights of our stay were definately sitting on the adirondak chairs just above the water when I seen my first ever whale (finback I believe). 3 times in one evening I spotted the whales, along with schools of porpoises and the many osprey. If you have ever heard the sound of a whale it is the most majestic and commanding sound I have ever heard. The island people will remain in our hearts, and this cottage on Campbello will definately be a yearly tradition now that we have found this gem. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner of the property who was the most gracious and kind gentleman we had encountered during our entire vacation. If I could sum up our stay in one word it would have to be...humbling.
