Summer of 2007

We had a wonderful vacation here in August 2007 with our 2.5 year old Daughter. The house is secluded from traffic at the end of a winding forest path. Kitchen is well stocked for many things including the fresh berry pies that we picked down the road from Danby. Spot is quiet. The small drawbacks are the float was covered in bird poop, but the dock was more than enough for us. And on two or three occasions a family would walk by as they seemed to be aimlessly wandering through the forest on a hike. It was a different family each time, and I have no clue where they were coming from or where they were going because they were not following a trail, they just looked lost. I would highly recommend this and hope to go back one day if they ever have August availability again

We are very excited to be returning to the Fidler retreat this year for the fifth year. We can't imagine a more perfect vacation. You can feel a true sense of peace the second you walk through the door. You are greeted by a beautiful airy great room with a livingroom, eating area, and kitchen. The house may be in a wooded area but it is far from rustic. It is bright, charming and unbelievably clean...not a bug in sight! The kitchen has all the pots, pans, and gadgets you may need. We sit 5 at the dining room table and use it nightly for the family games provided by the hosts. Our kids aren't in the house more than 5 minutes before they are checking the inventory! There is a TV provided for the sole purpose of DVD watching, and there is a market down the road that does have a small rental business. Some are also provided by the Fidlers. There is also a half bath on the first floor. The second floor has 3 bedrooms, all just as clean and bright and all with very comfortable beds. There is a full bath as well. Now, back to the downstairs, the back sliding doors give the most beautiful view of the lake which is only steps away off the back deck, complete with a picnic table and lounge chairs. The beach area is completely private except for the waves of passing boaters. We make full use of the rowboat and canoe. The best part is the sandy swim area. The kids love it...as well as Mom and Dad! It's been a blessing, especially when the kids were younger and could only go in knee deep! Now they enjoy the floating dock. There is a sand pit for the kids to play in and a fire pit for nightly s'mores. It truly is the most relaxing vacation you will ever have. There are minimarkets nearby for necessities, and we take a short scenic drive to either Rutland or Manchester for full shopping, farmers markets, restaurants, and other activities. Our favorite days however are those just staying at this beautiful retreat, taking time out of our busy lives, concentrating on our family, and simply exhaling. I highly recommend this house to all who simply need to exhale. You will return many times!!
