Homer House Rental Photos and Description

House, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 5-8)

PRIVACY! This home is located on almost 6 acres of land, giving you the privacy and peace that you have come to Alaska for. It is conveniently located in the city limits of Homer and is only 3 to 4 miles from the city center. The house is located on a bluff that overlooks emerald lakes and the beaches of Kachemak Bay just below.

You can hear the murmur of the ocean from the porch and watch eagles soaring on the updrafts overhead. Before you stretches the striking visual panorama of Kachemak Bay, Cook Inlet, the Kenai mountains and the volcanoes of the Alaska Range.

This newly remodeled house has a wall of windows to take full advantage of the view and thoughtfully placed window treatments to shut out the midnight sun for those not used to our long daylight hours at bedtime. There is an access ramp to the house and the entire lower floor is handicapped accessible. Spend the afternoon on the large deck and grill your fish for a fresh Alaskan dinner. This house is a truly comfortable residence with all of the conveniences of home.

Thank you so much for letting us stay for the weekend. We loved it. We don't want to leave. It is so quiet and the morning is beautiful and even more beautiful is sunset. It was sooo pretty. We just sat and watched it till it turned night.

We are both long time Alaskans who discovered all the amazing things about Homer and have made it our home. We love to fish, hike, bird-watch and kayak and living in Homer has made these activities available right out our door. We share our local knowledge with our visitors and especially love to share our Alaska.

The Owner purchased this house in 2003

The amazing thing about this property is the privacy and the view. The most frequent comment I get from our guests is how greatly their expectations of the cottage were exceeded when they walk through the door.

My favorite feature of the house is watching the antics of the big birds playing stick-drop and aero-bomber with each other on breezy days.

A Heavenly Haven in Homer

  • 5 of 5
Homer is a very special place, and staying in this house made our stay even more so. The house, as described, is on the edge of town. It’s well stocked, welcoming, and very comfortable. There are thoughtful little touches, like nice big mugs for coffee and tea. Its most amazing feature is the breathtaking view from the LR, deck, and upstairs bathroom. It’s awe-inspiring, like watching a living painting, with changing light and cloud formations throughout the day. On the day we left, we watched a fin whale feeding in the Inlet just below the house. We would have been content to spend many hours on the deck or in the living room just gazing, but Homer has much to offer.

We don’t fish, but certainly enjoyed eating the abundant and very fresh salmon and halibut. Favorite restaurants were Café Cups, Little Mermaid (on the Spit), and Wasabi (for the view, especially) (reservations needed for restaurants). Our bear viewing trip to Katmai was cancelled due to weather, so as a substitute adventure we took a float plane across the Bay to the State Park and hiked back to the coast from a sub-alpine lake. On the water taxi ride back, we saw a pod of Orca whales, a seal, puffins and kittiwakes, and sea otters. Some of our days were rainy, but that was OK. The Inlet Bookstore and Mermaid Café are great; we also learned a lot about the local ecology at the Alaska Islands and Ocean Visitors Center.

Homer has some of the highest tides in the world, almost 30 feet. It’s fun to walk on Bishop’s Beach and look for rocks as the tide changes, with the snow covered peaks and glaciers in the distance. We hope to go back to Homer and if we do, we absolutely would stay again at Holly’s “Heavenly Haven!”

Comfortable Home

  • 5 of 5
The photos of this property are very accurate. The view is one you want if you've never been to Alaska. The beds were comfortable, it was handy to have a washer and dryer, we cooked meals every day and the kitchen was well equipped, and sitting on the deck was great. In late May/early June you can see eagles soaring overhead. Holly was easy to work with when booking and once we arrived. She was current on all the latest fishing and clamming guidelines. One caution -- bring some slippers. Holly asks that all shoes stay in the entry way and your toes can get cold in Alaska even in summer!

The Halibut Queen

  • 5 of 5
The view is exactly the same as the photograph. We enjoyed watching the tides change right from our back deck. The setting and privacy set it apart from other properties. Homer has many attactions, our favorites were: fishing with Captain Mike and sending our fish home, trying to fish for salmon on the river, the museum, winery and brewery, many good restuarants and shops in Homer and the Spit and our home away from home that was well equipped and very clean. We will recommend this to our friends. Thanks Holly!

Owner's Response: I always enjoy my guests and am pleased to hear that they have enjoyed the house and Homer so much. There is so much to see and do in this area that you should spend an extra day off of the road and explore our area

Nice view, quiet

  • 5 of 5
The house has a beautiful view across the water, not really obvious in the photos. But the water is very far away! Take binoculars. It's very isolated, clean. We were very comfortable. You will need a car to get to Homer.

What a wonderful time we had in Homer at your Alaskan Cottage

  • 5 of 5
Pat, Steve and I had been on a birding field trip for 10 days. We wanted some extra time in Alaska where we could do things at a slower pace and just appreciate the setting, as well as the flora and fauna. Holly and Rex's Alaskan Cottage certainly fit the bill. Situated on a bluff, the cottage has beautiful views and lots of birds flying by. The cottage sits on a lovely setting and Homer is a wonderful place to visit. We were very comfortable with the accommodations and hope to return for the Shorebird Festival in a subsequent year.

We will return
all the best,
Susie, Steve and Pat
