Modernise! Modernise! Modernise!

Booking the villa was so easy and this was all down to Stephen's kind and considerate manner. However to be fair to Stephen and future prospective guests I feel that I must write this review in the hope that it will be acted upon and future guests will not be as disappointed as we were.
If you like ants then this is the place for you. The four bedrooms in the extension were inundated with them. Their paths were up and down the walls, over the beds and over the people who were sleeping in the beds. I appreciate that ants can be a problem anywhere, but with modern sealants they can be virtually eliminated.
I think that the major problem is that the villa is crying out for some TLC. The interior of the villa is in desperate need of a complete modernisation. As well as structurally and aesthetically, things like the cooker controls not working correctly, the dishwasher only working once in every three attempts, faults that can be attributed to old age.
Also cleanliness needs to be addressed. When we arrived there was soap/limescale residue on the taps and washbasins. The tablecloth I don't think had been washed in twelve months. It was ingrained with spilt food and drinks and in my opinion was only fit for cleaning the engine of a car.
The one redeeming factor was the villa's location - second to none. It was perfect, right on the water's edge of the harbour. It was this fact that really saved our holiday as we had fourteen days of sunshine and spent all the time outdoors admiring this view.
Don't let a wonderful villa and business go to rack and ruin due to neglect. Modernise now before it is too late. We would love to come back, but only when these issues have been addressed.
Owner's Response: We were shocked to get this review as we like to take great pride in people having a wonderful holiday in our home. Warren and Sue look after the villa and guests brilliantly for us when we are not there and do a wonderful job and I am attaching what they say below. Warren and Sue introduce themselves on arrival and guests have their contact numbers so they can call Warren and Sue if ever they need anything. In fact you can see in Sue's answer that they went out of their way to be helpful arranging anniversary flowers, a wheelchair for the Malcolm's disabled daughter and allowing them to stay on for longer than they should to make it easier for them. That said, we do have an ongoing program for renewal and in Spring 2010 we are putting in 3 new bathrooms and a new kitchen. In Spring 2009 we repainted the inside and outside of the house and fitted new shutters and built an area with a ping pong table (very popular with the children). With regards to ants, they will get into houses in Spain if food or anything they like to eat is spilt, left out and not cleaned up for a long time. The supermarkets all stock a large range of Ant sprays and powders for this very reason.
"Hello Stephen,
I am horrified to read what Malcolm has written. The fact that the issues they complained about ie cleanliness and dishwasher not working were not raised with either myself or Warren at anytime during their stay amazes me. The dishwasher works fine. The oven, yes the dial does not move but it does change from oven to grill etc. The only issue they raised with us were the ants, which they said they had bought some spray and killed them. The villa was sprayed when your brother's family were there, and we have had none since. We made sure when we changed the bed linen everything was cleaned. At no time did they mention the cleanliness of the villa or the dishwasher or oven. We checked on these people regularly as we had arranged the loan of the wheelchair. They also requested flowers for the other couples anniversary for the monday which I went and bought and delivered. The final day we let them stay till 6.30pm and cleaned the following day so their holiday was not rushed at the end as they had a disabled daughter. I can only wonder what the ulterior motive is for making such a damming report, when most things could have been remedied immediately if brought to our attention.
Regards Sue"
