I am a photo-based artist, naturalist and avid gardener migrating between Brooklyn, NY and the catskills. Between my work and my ten year old son life is full and adventurous.
Dana purchased this cabin in 1999
This location is rural while at the same time convenient. I fell in love with the cabin and its surroundings right away. (So much so that we recently bought a farm up the road.) The cabin holds a very special place in my heart. It's is a handmade work of art with its own spirit and personality. A rare find which is also decorated with rare finds. The surrounding countryside is mostly open farmland and rolling hills which appeals to my inner grace and sensitivity to good fresh local farm food. There are many farmers markets and farm stores that sell amazing ingredients to what I consider one of the most important pleasures in life, a delicious responsible meal.
Judy's husband drove the three of us from Kingston to see the real McCoy...and it's more amazing even than in your great photographs.
The guys who have it over the weekend were very nice when they spied us looking from the road and invited us to look around the grounds and to explore inside. The whole thing is like a wonderful mini movie set. I think it may be the original Archetype for cabin-in-the-woods.
We stayed her with our in-laws for Thanksgiving and it was fantastic. The location was just between Boston and Buffalo, which was perfect for us. We did bring our own pots and pans since we were making Thanksgiving dinner, so I can't speak to what's in the kitchen. It's a great site for snowshoeing and the fireplace was perfect. It was truly like going back in time. The bedrooms are all upstairs and the bathroom is downstairs, so be aware of that if it's an issue.
Thank you for our wonderful stay in your cabin last weekend. It's so cozy and decorated so nicely- we truly appreciated all the details that you have put so much work into. It was a perfect, relaxing weekend, and I'd love to come back some time in the future.
We were hoping for snow, we were hoping for cozy and comfortable, and we were hoping for private. It is not often enough that expectations are met on a weekend getaway to the satisfaction that Dana's cabin met ours! The location is beautiful. The cabin is rustic, but clean and comfortable with every amenity we needed. The fresh snow was plenty for snowshoeing and the fireplace in the cozy livingroom just hit the spot afterwards. We are a group ( 2-3 couples ) who
LOVE a weekend away. We mostly travel to the adirondaks and I can assure you..... the adirondaks have NOTHING on this cabin and its location.
My husband and I have been talking about getting out of the city to go up north for quite some time now. So for his birthday I surprised him with a stay at Dana's cabin.
This place is such a peaceful way to spend your weekend. There are lots of things in the area to do, but my husband and I just spent the weekend making fires, sitting by them, cooking and listening to music. It was exactly what we needed to get away from it all.
I wanted a place that felt like a true log cabin, and this is about as authentic as you can get. Every inch of the interior is oozing with charm. I didn't see anything like this while we were up north.
I can't say enough great things about this place. Just go!

My friend and I stayed at the cabin for a week in September of 2011. We brought along my dog Bruiser who enjoyed the peacefulness of the cabin as much as we did. Both of our daughters came up on our first night at the cabin, they brought my friends grandson who was 7 months old....we all had such a GREAT TIME!!! We went for a hike across the stream to the top of the hill, just beautiful views from up there!!! We had so much fun looking at all the items and decorations throughout each room of the cabin......we were always finding something NEW to look at!!!!! The Cabin has a great porch, where we would sit and chat or enjoy the quietness of the area. The stream next to the house has a deck where dangling your feet in the water is just one of the many peaceful places to spend your time. My friend and I also went for walks up the dirt road, where we had a picnic to watch the sunset. This Cabin is quiet and charming and we can't wait to go back for another week!
I booked the cabin in the hopes of surprising my girlfriend for her birthday; when we got there, she was amazed at everything from the setting to the cabin itself. The location is extremely peaceful, with the added bonus of a small stream right next to the site. Granted, it rained for the two days we were there, but we spent our time relaxing by the fireplace and cooking up feast after feast in the rustic kitchen. I'd recommend this place to anyone I could.
Downhill Skiiing is about one hour from the cabin but there is cross country skiing right out the back door as del as, sledding and hiking, There is shopping 10 to 15 minutes away in Oneonta. Kayaking, canoeing and fishing are nearby. Golfing is a 10 minute drive. Swimming in nearby rivers and lakes and also the franklin pool and Otego pool. Indoor pool at YMCA in Oneonta as well as fitness rooms.
